I know I shouldn’t be giving Uwe Boll (pictured) any more attention, but how can I avoid it when he makes it so easy? This time, the videogame-to-film auteur has responded to the near-universal contempt that critics and genre movie fans have for him by agreeing to quit making movies if an online petition drive calling for his retirement garners one million signatures. Don’t know if he’ll be as good as his word (though he certainly was when it came to taking on his critics in the boxing ring), but it’s worth a try, no? At this writing, some 112,792 signers have called for an end to Boll’s Bloodrayne of terror. You can help. Think of the children.
You can help persuade Uwe Boll to stop making movies

No! Why would you do that? Why would you sign that petition?? Why would you stop the funniest man in the industry from doing what he does, um…worst?
Seriously, it’s not like Boll is any kind of a threat, and his movies are hilariously Ed-Wood-tastic.
If we’re really going to force someone out of the biz, how about Zach Snyder? Brett Ratner? Not someone harmless like Uwe Boll.
Signed! I really wish more terrible directors would allow us to delete them like this, eh McG?
Signed, sealed, delivered…stop making movies.
I hear your movies are bad. On behalf of a lot of people, please stop making movies.
I gotta say, I whole-heartedly agree with Cara. It’s like a walking trainwreck and you can’t avert your eyes. Can he do worse? I don’t know but I want to find out.
I’m still baffled that he got Ben Kinglsey and Michael Madsen to star in one of his movies. Can he top that? Who’s next? Matt Damon? Kevin Spacey? Daniel-Day Lewis? The possibilities are mind-boggling!
I just signed it. There are nearly 120,000 signatures now.
I can’t stand all you people that are signing this! Uwe finances his own movies and if actors want to work with him or video game makers want to sell their rights to him, then that’s their prerogative. It’s as simple as this… if you don’t like his movies don’t go! I don’t like Eddie Murphy movies so I don’t go to those. Maybe I should sign a petition to stop Eddie from making movies! The logic behind this is stupid and immature.
Wow Jeff, you can’t stand us? That’s a little harsh! You don’t even know me! And as for the Eddie Murphy petition- if you stated one up I’d sign it, but I guess I have to wait until someone using “stupid and immature” logic to do it.
Why stop a man who enjoys making movies from making movies? I don’t get it. I mean, if you don’t want to see a movie, don’t see it. I don’t see a reason to go through the trouble of signing petitions. Just.. don’t go.
What’s the fuss all about? I doubt there are a million people who watched Uwe Boll’s …errr… “films”, or know his name, I don’t think this petition will ever fly. By the way, there is a very interesting Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung interview with Boll out there. He actually is quite smart and always came out ahead of his ventures. Maybe Mel Brooks should cast him in the next The Producers cover, because that is exactly what Boll is. Springtime for Bloodrayne.
As with all of Uwe’s work, this is probably a ploy to get him more publicity for an upcoming film. The man seems inspired by the passionate dislike he brings about in others. Agreed that he’s harmless, but I’ll be the first to say that it’s very fun to point a finger and laugh at Uwe Boll.
If you get rid of all of the bad filmmakers in the world, who will be left to critize and make fun of?
There’s no doubt that Uwe Boll is a terrible, terrible filmmaker. I know–I saw “House of the Dead.” But I sort of agree with Cara that he’s harmless amusement (of the “laughing AT him” variety). I’d much rather get rid of a hack like McG.
Don’t know or care enough about Uwe Boll to sign anything and I agree with Cara too. Now if someone would come up with a petition to get Gwyneth Paltrow to stop making movies like she promised then I’d sign that.
For anyone, like Susman, willing to give props to Boll for “taking on his critics” in a boxing ring, you should know he cherry-picked only the weakest, unexperienced critics who signed up for the “fight” and went so far as to lie to them, telling them it wasn’t going to be a serious fight so that he could sandbag them.
The man is not only a terrible movie maker, he is also raging egomaniac and a bully.
Agree totally with Cara. I want Boll to continue to make movies, just to see how bad it can get, and which critic decides to stab their eyes out first, just so they don’t have to see another one of his works. I think I’ll start a petition demanding that Uwe continue making movies!
We saw him last year at Fangoria, where he previewed his five (!) new movies. The funny thing is, he was giving his presentation while Joe Bob Briggs was signing autographs. The look on Joe Bob’s face was just priceless.
