Her label spent 2.2 million dollars on advertising for her. I’m sorry thats more than enough. the homless musicians in my city sell more records than she did (400) and they spend no money on advertisments. Oh yeah and her songs sucked thats why it didn’t sell go listen to i’m gonna blow your mind. it made me go blow chunks.

I was reading a post under another contestant and it mentioned a wesite that predicts votes. Well~~ I went there and wish I hadn’t. /cry
Carly has the least votes. It is a small margin so I hope it isn’t correct.
I hate for her to leave before she ever got to show her stuff. Mariah week is coming up and even though I love the Carly rocker the best, (I love her Heart, Amy Lee, vibe), they seem to like her Diva side and encourage it so this would have been her week.
I dont think she has gotten to show what she can do. Now that all the hub about the record deal has settled down and it’s come out alot of contestants had similiar stuff, she seems to have gotten alot more confident.
Igorance was bliss.

For the life of me, I do not understand what the Idol Judges see in Jason CastrO? “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” on his dumb ukelele??? Please, give me a break! He is boring!! Carly, on the otherhand is great and all they do is cut her down, it stinks and is totally unacceptable!

i think the reason why simon is hard on carly is because he truly knows talent when he sees one and he wants her to bring it on! bring on ways to beat the pack! if she follows a lot of the advice given to her, she will really become a great star. i would love to see a david cook/carly smithson finale! but… it’s still too early. carly has a mountain to climb. her amazing voice will have to work her wonders which i know she can! people will have to look past the tats, the husband whom she loves, the faces she makes when she belts (have you seen celine belt?), the outfits (which to me aren’t the worst among the bunch) and just listen to her voice. she may yet just overwhelm you. GO CARLY! Go Fighting Irish!!

1. She’s had a record deal – Um, so did Michael Johns, Kristy Lee, David C and Brooke White – WHO CARES? Did anyone know who she was before AI? Had anyone heard her song? Exactly, so they must not have promoted her well. Also, she was only 17 years old – she sang the songs they gave her to sing. I don’t think it’s her fault they gave her crappy songs – she sounded great on her album but the songs just weren’t radio worthy. Not. Her. Fault.
2. “She’s smug” – Are you serious? Other than Brooke, Carly comes across as the most down-to-earth, nicest person on AI. She has zero confidence left so for people to say in one breath she’s “smug” then complain in the next about her “desperation?” Stupid.
3. “No connection to the audience” – As a fan, I disagree 100%. She may not connect with YOU but she connects with me and A LOT of other viewers. We all like different music/artists so stop bashing her just because she’s not your cup of tea. Carly, you are amazing and you are MY American Idol!

wanted to add – i don’t mean that against the judges – what remains at the end of the day is AI’s legacy, which is all about the voter’s & judges’ accuracy in judging who can make it in the music industry. (which isn’t necessarily the best vocalist or most popular during the show.) It’s generally agreed the voters got it right with Carrie Underwood, underestimated Daughtry & Hudson, got it wrong with Taylor Hicks, etc. That Simon backed Carrie & not Daughtry so much, etc….

Slezak – to answer your question, imo, the judges must back the party line – that is, AI needs the winner & final few to sell records to give AI credibility. So the judges back who they think will sell – and right now that’s justifiably David C. A glance at iTune sales verifies it. Simon “likes” Carly (knows she can sing), but he hasn’t seen an indication she can sell records or create an adequate fanbase. He still sticks up for her by saying he likes her (like he did for MJ before his last 2 kick-ass weeks), but in the music industry (not just AI), voice alone isn’t enough – things like image & looks matter. So while he was too harsh (he usually is), he was also correct that she could use some star styling to bolster the voice.

I think Carly is terrific and has not been getting the credit she deserves. I wonder if she is in the bottom 3 sometimes because her family and a lot of friends are still in Ireland and cannot vote. What do you think? I must check on how long she has been in this country to develop friendships.
