Nicholas Fonseca and I ponder the Dolly-rific possibilities, engage in a fierce Brooke-vs.-Carly debate, and shed more light on Kristy Lee’s evil plan to crack American Idol’s top 8. (Yes, robots are involved!)

Someone has to sing “9 to 5″! Absolutely! I just hope that if someone does sing it, they don’t butcher the song.
Dolly Parton ROCKS!
Love the plotting of the Kristy Lee Cook robo-engineers. People should remember this isn’t a Dolly concert and thus the “someone has to sing 9 to 5″ sentiment should be abandoned. I think the suggestions offered here would expose more of Dolly’s songbook.
amazing. simply amazing. but let’s not kid ourselves – you know ramiele is going to sing “i will always love you.”
Thanks for this episode of Idolatry. No suggestions for Michael Johns, David A or Ramiele. I’ll look for the to-be-continued episode. You know, you all at EW are getting more and more artistic in these episodes. Pretty funny. Also, all those songs you said shouldn’t be sung–they’re going to be. These kids go to the obvious so easily. Islands in the Stream is my least favorite, by quite a bit, so fingers crossed that we don’t hear that.
Safe to say that David Cook will do the White Stripe’s cover of Jolene!
I heart Idolatry. I was in a very grouchy mood today, but you’ve made me slightly less so…my coworkers thank you!
I heard that Jason was singing “I Will Always Love You”, maybe he’ll have another “Hallelujah” moment. One can only hope.
Shut up James. It’s a great song, and what… someone shouldn’t sing it because YOU think that they should pick something else? Whatever.
Thanks for mentioning “Bargain Store” — My all-time favorite Dolly song — but none of the contestants has the chops to pull it off. Brooke musically, but man, she could not sing those sad lyrics about a broken-hearted tramp and mean it — Brooke is like that princess in Enchanted…… also I agree we should tap some of Dolly’s gospel songbook, David A. could finally kill!
David A. – LIGHT OF A CLEAR BLUE MORNING
David C. – My Tennessee Mountain Home
Kristy Lee – Dumb Blonde
Jason C. – Please Don’t Stop Loving Me
Carly – JESUS & GRAVITY
Michael Johns – The Seeker
Ramiele – Why’d You Come In Here Looking Like That?
Syesha – Shine
Brooke – COAT OF MANY COLORS
Another brilliant idoltry session, love your bringing in your fellow EWer’s to debate with you. Have enjoyed you all tremendously and love the robot storyline, especially when the inappropriate language was censored I laughed out loud. Keep it up you are are heading for your own tv show…..and we all will miss you here!
Yet another hilarious episode of Idolatry! Nicholas Fonseca totally nailed my thoughts on David Cook’s smugness on the head, but he was much better last week and I’m hoping he can keep it in check for a few more weeks.
I was raised on Dolly Parton, and I’m really looking forward to tonight’s show even though I fear that it could get weird. I giggle a little picturing David Cook wailing a guitar and belting out “Why’d you come in here lookin like that, when you could stop traffic in a gunney sack…” Poor song choices could equal a disastrous show on the scale of Beatles Week Part 2. Plus, a lot of the best Dolly songs tell a story, and you just can’t cut them down to 1:30. For example, I desperately want Jason Castro to do “Coat of Many Colors,” but you would lose the whole meaning of the song. I’m very interested to see what everyone comes up with tonight.
“Jolene” and “Travelin’ Thru” will be sung by two of the Idol contestants this week. Sadly for you D. Cook bashers, he is not singing either of those.
I’m in agreement with Nicholas. He should just stand there and sing. However, Nick my friend, you should not wear that shirt again. You look like a prisoner. Just sayin’.
Can’t wait for tonight!!
I now look forward to Idolatry MORE than I look forward to the actual show. I already hear Ramiele singing “Islands In the Stream” in my head. I wonder if David C can get away with doing Dolly’s version of “Stairway to Heaven”? That would let him show off some intensity, while still being more country and laid-back. I love the suggestion for Syesha, because this is make-or-break week for her. And what would you say about “Two Doors Down” for Brooke? Sadly, I can see David A doing “Coat of Many Colors”, and Carly doing “I Will Always Love You”, but the idea of Jason doing that intrigues me.
I didn*t think anything could top the last installment of “Kristy*s Evil Plan” until the leader plotted Kristy*s evil song choice while sipping brandy! Love it! (Excuse the wonky punctuation- friggin* apostrophe won*t work!)
I would to hear Jason sing The Seeker..
LOL!!!!111!!! The Idolatry video is HILARIOUS!! Can’t wait to see the second part.
One of my favorite songs by Dolly is False Eyelashes. Of course a girl would have to sing it, I’m not sure who I would prefer. Maybe Brooke?
Ramiele- Here You Come Again
Brooke-Jolene
Kristy- Why’d You Come In Here Lookin’ Like That? or Dumb Blonde
David C.-Tennesee Homesick Blues
Syesha-To Know him is to Love Him and NO I will always love you!!
Michael-The Seeker
David A.- Coat of Many Colors
Jason Castro-Joshua
Carly- Me and Little Andy
what is with the random images? too much!
The minute you mentioned that Jolene was covered by The White Stripes I can’t stop thinking that David C will probably go in that direction because he likes to take the rocker versions of very well known songs (Eleanor Rigby,Hello, Billie Jean)
If David C. or Brooke sings “Jolene”, I will hurl. They would butcher one of the best songs ever beyond recognition.
Also, everyone knows Syesha is going to sing “I Will Always Love You”…although I kind of hope the rumor about Jason singing it is true. It could be interesting. Of course, singing that song is also a death knell so I hope Syesha DOES sing it and gets the axe.
Jason is not singing “I Will Always Love You.” David is not singing “Jolene.”
I LOVE the idea of duets week…especially if they do a ‘two-in-one-week’ elimination after ‘Idol Gives Back’. The finalists having to work together in order to stay. That is very new and interesting. Plus, how awesome would it be – a Michael Johns/David Cook duet of “Hunger Strike”!!!
The idols need to listen to Just Because I’m a Woman, the amazing tribute to Dolly that came out a couple years ago. The Joan Osborne take on Do I ever Cross Your Mind would be great for one of the guys, and Norah Jones doing the Grass is Blue is better than anything on any of Jones’ own albums.
i wonder what the clapping/waving situation will be up front (i refuse to call it a mosh pit, as it is the antithesis of such)…
I thought Chickeze (not Eze) was going to sing 9to5. He said that in his exit interview. Hopefully, no one else took that song now that he is out. I love that in the Idol rankings you have determined Ramiele to be last for eternity until she sings a song that has not previously been performed on Idol. Somehow I doubt that she will climb out of the bottom ranking because I have to assume she thinks she can pull off I Will Always Love You. Maybe this will finally get her voted off. One can hope.
If someone sings 9 to 5, I’ll gag.
Dab – I wondered the same thing. Dolly Parton songs and a hand-waving mosh pit do not go together.
OMG, Michael Slezak, you have got me hooked on Idolatry! I am supposed to be at the law school library studying, and instead I am here at home watching this Dolly preview, laughing hysterically at the end of this video — like where you are putting words in Nicholas’ mouth about Carly, and of course the Japanese spaceship commander and the Giddyup robot
… (My friends and I are are so praying KLC blows it with Dolly and gets the boot this week … If there is a God, please spare us anymore manipulative, horrific Kristy Lee machinations!) …. Take care, Michael, and keep those brilliant Idolatries (plural??) coming at us… (P.S. Kudos to your digital video editor – s/he rocks!)
I’m curious to see who sings what as well. More curious to see what David Cook sings, since I’m always looking forward to his performances each and every week. I agree with most, I think Ramiele will sing “I Will Always Love You,” and she’ll probably make it boring as usual (although I do like Ramiele). Interested to see what Jason does as well. (PLEASE, I hope KLC falls flat and finally gets the axe on Wednesday! I can’t stand to look at her. Something is wrong with her face. Can’t stand her mustache neither.)
