Axl Rose has come out of hiding the recording studio to respond to Dr Pepper’s offer to donate a can of the fizzy soft drink to everyone in America — save Slash and Buckethead — should Guns N’ Roses’ Chinese Democracy, now in its 13th year of gestation, see the light of day in ‘08. The dreadlocked rocker issued a press release that was posted on the GN’R website yesterday:
We are surprised and very happy to have the support of Dr Pepper with our album Chinese Democracy, as for us, this came totally out of the blue. If there is any involvement with this promotion by our record company or others, we are unaware of such at this time. And as some of Buckethead’s performances are on our album, I’ll share my Dr Pepper with him.
So… is this a yes, Axl? We can expect to see Chinese Democracy in 2008? Here’s a clock you can use to chart your progress.

OK, if you insist on covering this ridiculousness, at least PLEASE spell Dr Pepper correctly! There is no period after Dr in the proper name of the company.
So Buckheads performances are still going to be on the album eventhough the new guitarist is Bumblefoot?
He seems so hilariously bemused! I’m not sure he gets the joke
Does anyone care anymore??? But I must admit I like Dr.Pepper humour!
Damn. Now I want a Dr Pepper.
Um, I think this is a “no”. If Axl is going to share his Dr Pepper (happy, Stacey?) with Buckethead, then he’s implying that the album won’t be released by the end of 2008. Makes no difference to me, though. I stopped caring about Guns n’ Roses about 14 years ago.
I too stopped caring about them. But they’re one of those bands I keep hoping will make a comeback. But now, the free Dr Pepper initiative makes me really want this album to be released.
Wouldn’t Axl like to be a Pepper too?
Two points: 1. Axl actually spoke intelligibly. Granted, it was probably a press agent, but I assumed he’d just trash a hotel room when he heard about this.
2. Dr. Pepper must be a fun place to work. Who thought of this? And how did they get something so clever past middle management?
I’m an Axel,he’s an Axel, wouldn’t you like to be an Axel too?
I laughed so hard at some of the poster’s comments that I choked on my doctor paper and it came out through my nose. (Just kidding. Well not about the laughing part.)
“doctor paper” oops. I meant Dr. Pepper. I should not try to joke anymore.
I think there might actually be democracy in China before this album comes out.
HAHA Colin. I often come to that exact realization.
I think it means the oppostite… if he’s going to share his Dr Pepper with Buckethead wouldn’t it mean he’s going to have a Dr Pepper that he’d only get by releasing the album in ‘08? Am I misunderstanding something here?
Good one, Stephanie T! How about these lyrics, set to the tune of Paradise City: ‘Take me down to Dr. Pepper City/ Where the taste is good/And the Aftertaste ain’t any/Oh won’t you please take me hoooooooooooooooome, chug-alug?
It’s funny how they’ve tied in an act that is so old and tired with a soda that tastes like carbonated prune juice. ‘Nuff said?
I want my can of Dr. Pepper so bad I can almost taste it, just like the Chinese will be soon tasting the sweet nectar of Democracy. AXL we need you more now than ever!
That album better be pretty darn awesome since it took so long to produce it. If the album falls flat GNR fans will not wait another 12 years for an album. Besides what is GNR without Slash and Duff? That’s like the Rolling Stones without Keith Richards.
The record industry has been force feeding us garbage like, “hinder” and “Nickleback” for so long, I think us hard rockers have forgotten what real art is, $@#& labels, U say GNR is not GNR without Slash, and Duff, I say, Slash and Duff are nothing without GNR. Im glad to see Axl take his time with his art, in an era when rockers care more about fame, and money…than creating an album that is worth what you pay for it, which is more than u can say about bands like hinder, who you cant even distinguish from any other band on the radio now a days…..Cheers to the new GNR….@$#& the naysayer, you punks can keep listening to Hinder…lol I hope your stereos puke up those lame albums…..
Layne Shale
Bands like “Hinder”, and “Nickleback”, are talented, dont get me wrong……but its always easier to follow in the footsteps of the great bands like GNR, and The CRUE, who paved the way for these other lame bands, to imbarress themselves publicly……lol
What a Great Year. A Wonderful new president and Axel Rose making a comeback. Who could ask for anything more!! Can not wait!! Horray. Long live America and Axel Rose. Life is Grande!!
Chinese Democracy rocks!! Surprisingly awesome and the guitar playing is insane!!! CD ROCKS!!! Wife & I will be going to a concert if one ever happens.
