First look: Britney on 'How I Met Your Mother'

Stop the e-presses: We won’t get to see Britney Spears on How I Met Your Mother for a few more days, but the first clips of her vaunted TV cameo are out — and they’re not bad! What we’ve got here are two scenes featuring HIMYM‘s Ted (Josh Radnor) and his dermatologist’s receptionist (Britney), as promised. She bats her eyelashes… she compares Ted to "a young Tom Selleck, only a million times handsomer"… and that’s about it. Both clips are super-short, but Brit shows off some definite comic chops in each. Is she awkwardly rushing through her lines because she’s nervous on the set? Nah, she’s just in character as that smitten receptionist!

Admittedly, I say all this as someone who’s stubbornly rooting for Britney to make a triumphant return to creative work — I still maintain that Blackout was an unironically excellent dance-pop album — but even I wasn’t sure ’til now that she’d be able to make it through this much screen time. Now I just might have to tune in to CBS on Monday at 8:30 to see if she gets any more scenes. (Could Britney turn out to be Ted’s kids’ mom?!?!) Who’s watching with me?

She wasn’t half bad. I wouldn’t give her the lead in a movie quite yet, but she was ok. As for who’s Ted’s future wife, I think it’s a woman that he brushed past in the bar during the St. Patty’s episode. We know she was at the bar because the lady with the yellow umbrella walked in. And normally when a character brushes past someone, they just keep going with their conversation, but Ted actually said sorry and she responded that it was ok. However, the camera didn’t stop to focus in on her face, it was all very covert like they were trying to acknowledge her without causing too much attention to her. Alright I might be grasping at straws here.

If you ever watched her on the Mickey Mouse Club way back when, she was quite adapt at the comedy bits so it doesn’t really surprise me.

hopefully this episode will get more people to watch the show. I love this show! They just need a little boost and Britney (god save her tormented soul) might be the one to give it to them.

How I met your Mother gets props for the most creative ribbing of FCC regulations ever (instead of smoking pot, all the characters kept “eating a sandwich”. Totally Awesome!), and Neil Patrick Harris is the man.
Monica, I think you are right. Well, that’s the vibe I got from watching that episode anyway.
Okay, we all got our cheap shots at Brittney while she was down, it’s really time for her to comeback. The bits in her are pretty good, so maybe she can become a recurring character?
Well, whatever it takes, the time has come for this young woman to make her comeback.
BTW, that South Park episode about Britney was disturbing and deep and the same time. The show got preachy and a little dumb by the end, but they put this whole Britney thing into perspective. Lord help me, I’m giving props to the South Park guys and Britney in one posting. Will I give some love to Josh Rich next? Nah!

I watched the clips and I wasn’t all that impressed. But I will admit that I’m biased, and sick of hearing about her being on this damn show, lol.

I’m glad she’s not dead, but I’m really tired of hearing about her…the girl is STILL SICK, no matter how much you parade her in front of the camera…she needs medical help, not sitcom cameos…I wish EW would walk away from the Britney bandwagon and find more interesting, talented actors to talk about…bah…

ahh, there’s that adorable Britney i used to have improper thoughts about a few years ago. Glad she’s in there somewhere.

  • Elizabeth

I didn’t have the improper thoughts that Eli had, but I was thinking the same thing: oh there’s that nice girl that I enjoyed. I was watching HIMYM before, but I am looking forward to Monday’s episode.

I thinking abut the HIMYM episode with Britt juxtaposed against the South Park episode on Britt – it is time to leave the woman alone and let her get on with getting better.

I’m amazed that someone was finally able to get some decent extensions on the girl! That aside, while I am sick of hearing about Britney, I am thrilled about the exposure that HIMYM is receiving over this. Now lets just hope that the series doesn’t become the new ‘Will & Grace’ with less focus on story and more focus on the revolving door of famous guest stars.

I’ll be watching on Monday, Simon! This is the funniest sitcom on TV right now.

Oh she looks so pretty (she hasn’t looked that way since a long time) and also the sound of her voice is a little bit diferent which is great cause this is a way of saying that she’s actually playing someone else instead of just playing herself…
