Client 9's chanteuse

Categories: Music

Kristen_lSlightly better than Heidi Montag. Light years from Edith Piaf. That’s the generous verdict for the musical talents of Ashley Alexandra Dupré, a.k.a. "Kristen," the high-priced prostitute linked to disgraced New York governor Eliot Spitzer. The New York Times interviewed and identified Dupré this morning, and the 22-year old’s MySpace page detailed her musical inspirations, her difficult childhood, and links to two throbbing dance tracks — before being severely dismantled this morning. "I am all about my music, and my music is all about me," she wrote online, and judging from her two singles, "What We Want" and "Move Ya Body," she’s not lying: "If you want to take me out after the club, you gotta do it right, baby, show me some love," she sings in the gi-grating "Move Ya Body." "Sex, money, drugs is what I’m all about. Set the game up so you can see for yourself." (I assume that the song’s "Moon clap, moon clap" interlude does not refer to some obscure venereal disease, but I can’t be certain.) "What We Want," references the teenage runaway’s difficult road from growing up at the Jersey Shore to the Emperor’s Club escort service: "Been around, can’t tell me nothing, I see through you, don’t know if I believe you, can’t really trust you or anyone, but me." There’s no trace of the Aretha Franklin stylings that Dupré claimed to emulate when she first began recording, but these mediocre singles might mercifully disguise more significant vocal shortcomings.

Would you pay 98 cents for either of her songs? (With running times of just over three minutes, that comes to just $18.62 per hour.)

UPDATE: Dupré’s MySpace page, streaming the full version of "What We Want," is back online.

She is from the Britney Spear school of horrible pop music with mediocre vocals. Although I think she may have a better voice than Brit though….

  • Rakeem

    She stinks…ON ICE.

I stopped by her myspace site this morning with the hope to hear her tracks but got distracted. By the time I got back, her site was down. Glad to get the link. The music can be previewed for free, and I found it VERY Freestyle influenced.
Seriously, the Cover Girls, Lisa Lisa, Expose, Gloria Estafan and the year 1987 called. They’d like their track back.
I don’t feel that she’s got enough to set the world on fire or sell a million records, but work as a struggling musician’s got to be better than her “daytime” gig.

The songs themselves aren’t terrible, but she has a really odd tone to her voice. Am I the only one hearing that?

  • Anonymous

please stop giving this girl publicity. seriously, do you have to be a high paid hooker to get famous?

  • Snarf

Nah, let her make money the old fashioned way. Selling her story to one of the tabloids.

  • Olaf

The obligatory book deal and Playboy appearance will soon happen. After that, she’ll be a punchline. Maybe she has a fair voice, wrapped into crappy songs.

  • Eli

When i finally caught her, i thought, this is what 5,000.00 dollars gets you, which is very dissapointing. Especially since the Emperor’s Club opening page – on the Salon article – promised well educated and classy, not jersey barely educated skank. She was not worth the 5,000.00 and she’s not worth .98 cents.

  • Mozz

she’s very pretty, but let’s hope she was a better lay than she is a singer. Those songs are terrible, her voice is completely flat and toneless. Oh, but the moans are classy, one can only imagine which range she put them in for Spitzer.

  • Eric Friedmann

I could care less about her music, but I’d definetely f*ck her!

  • EP Sato

    Eli, that was LOL-tastic!
I hadn’t thought of it that way, but you are totally right! The way the Emperor’s Club was made to sound, all their employees were girls working on their PHDs who worked as classy escorts to pay off books and those pesky student loan payments…Like that girl in the “Angel” movies.

  • Stephanie T.

EP that’s what I was thinking. The music accompaniment is very 80’s Spanish Freestyle, which I love. However, putting your vocals through a filter (ala Britney and Paris) does not make you a singer…it just means that you had money to pay the studio musicians. I wonder where she got the cash? :-P
Anyway as a New Yorker, I still think that this was a matter between Spitzer and his wife. I mean hey, the boy liked S&M. Who dosen’t? He should have been honest with his wife from the start. If Spitzer is guilty of anything, it’s the cover up of the prostitution ring. As NYS’s Attorney General, Elliot was known for busting prostitutes and pimps. He turned out to be super kinky hippocriate. My guess is that after all is said and done, instead of Disneyworld, he’ll be flying off to Amesterdam!

Doesn’t matter if her music’s any good; she’ll be getting a record deal — At the very least a 6+ figure fee for an interview with Diane/Babs/Oprah. I’m amazed at HOW much attention this is getting. Her trashy MySpace pic has been the headline on cnn.com for TWO days now. I would expect that of TMZ, but not the “news” sites. How many soldiers died in Iraq recently? Sheesh. Oh, well, at least now when we roll our eyes at the coverage of America’s latest skanky media darling and call her a wh*re — She really IS a wh*re! Paris Hilton, eat your heart out!

  • Eli

I was also surprised when the mother came into her defense by saying “”She is a very bright girl who can handle someone like the governor.” mmmmhmmm, yeah, that’s te way to put it, it seems like the slut doesn’t fall far from the tree.

  • Ep sato

Jennifer, you are also right. How in the world are Lindsey Lohan, Britney Spears and Paris Hilton going to top this? Maybe they can give NJ governor Jon Corzine a ring to see if he’s in the mood for a foursome? That’d make the front page!
Also agreed that this is non-news except that America loves a good sex scandal. As Stephanie T points out, dude was known for busting hookers as Attorney General before he got caught soliciting one as Governor. That sort of scandal with a high profile (and popular) elected official always means big scandal, big ad sales and big ad revenue.

  • Stephanie T.

Yep, every American loves a sex scandal. Still if the wealthy buisnessman hire a ho companies were legal (and in some countries they are)this whole scandal would not be a big thing. His unfaithfulness and his dishonesty would be the bigger issues. But then again, as Tyler Perry had pointed out “Lie and lawyer go together lie-awyer… lie-awyer! “

  • Eric Friedmann

I gotta say, for $4,300, I’d better get at least THREE woman at once at a ski logde for the weekend with a fully-stocked bar!!! I don’t care if she can suck a golfball through a garden hose, no single woman is worth $4,300 for just one night!

The old double standard is alive and well in 2008. If Spitzer is prosecuted, Dupre should be as well.
It is ludicrous to reward her with the opportunity for fame and fortune.
What she has done is demeaning, immoral, AND illegal.
Ms. Dupre is clearly an opportunist not a victim. If she had any self-respect, she would disappear into the night. But then, that would be much too easy….

    Sorry.
My computer seems to have hiccupped and duplicated my entry.

  • Stephanie T.

Dupree can’t be prosecuted, her employer(s) can. However the American media is just as guilty. Our government is supposedly “politically correct”. There was a problem with Janet Jackson flashing a surgically enhanced mamory gland on national television. But if a prostitute is caught in a sex scandal, her song gets played and she’s media fodder.

  • Eric Friedmann

So here’s the lesson learned for all prostitutes (at least the cute ones that are worth a damn, anyway): if you want to be famous, you have to f*ck famous people!

  • Miles

Stephanie T. why can’t she be persecuted? She is a prostitute, which is illegal, it’s a crime, and while her employers are also guilty, it’s not like she didn’t know she was breaking the law, I thought the reason she’s not being persecuted is because she was probably offerred a deal for her testimony. Otherwise she’d be sitting in jail right now. Can you please explain? is prostitution a crime, but not a punishable one? by the way; what she musically should also be illegal, that stuff is crap.

  • Eric Friedmann

Look at it this way: hookers are just like politicians – THEY F*CK PEOPLE FOR MONEY! And if we prosecuted and sentenced every single one that did, there’d be none left. That’s fine with me for the politicians, but please, let’s leave the cute hookers alone!

  • Stephanie T.

I take it back. She can be prosecuted for prostitution, but the bigger charge will go to her employer. I stand corrected.

  • Anonymous

You know what, legalize prostitution. Crank up the price and the tax.

  • RealTalk

He needs to be prosecuted. Then for her, they can make a deal to drop the hooking charges in exchange for her testimoney. BUT, she gets eaten alive by NYC, NY State and IRS. If her W2 has less than $150,000 gross, she has been earning in cash and evading taxes. Then we jail the business owners and managers. Then I want to see a list of the top 100 clients on the front page of the NY Times. I don’t care how painful it is. Anything less, and we conclude that this was politically selective prosecution using Tricky Dick tactics.

  • Miles

The point is, that is she is not persecutted for anything, then it’s gonna look like entrapment of spitzer, like it was all set up… so she better be serving some time, but, who i am jealous of will be the one who gets to share her cell… she gets to sample the pie for free.

  • Anonymous

Realtalk, most of these “companies” pay off the books. I really doubt that she filed a W2 or had a 401 K health plan.

  • Ep Sato

Anon, I think that’s Realtalk’s point. If Ashley’s W-2s from her legit job show $10,000 in earnings, but her bank statements show she deposited $100,000 over the last year (which I’m sure will get reviewed by a fine tooth comb) they can get her on tax evasion.
Stephanie T. did mention the possibility that Ashley is cooperating with the prosecutors and that may keep her out of prison. Clearly, the “big fish” they want is the governor so it would make sense for them to be lenient with Ashley if she agrees to testify against Spitzer.
