Who makes the best 'guitar face'?

Categories: Music, Television

HBO’s deadpan darlings Flight of the Conchords have popped up in a "Behind the Scenes" video, made during a photo shoot for Maxim magazine, sporting mustaches and demonstrating their favorite "guitar faces." Check it out, and let the PopWatch universe know your answer to this burning question: Which musician, living or dead, makes the best "guitar face"? You know what we’re talking about here, that intense performance face that makes you squirm, or perhaps swoon, but you can’t look away because you know that guitarist is feeling it! An obvious candidate is John Mayer. Who else?

Dave Matthews face is goofy. And when he plays guitar…

Do you even have to ask??? Hands down, JIMI HENDRIX! There never was, there never will be again!
Close second: DAVID GILMOUR of Pink Floyd.

Anyone that’s anyone has to say Angus Young.

What, like a stupid guitar face? That prize would go to Neil Schon of Journey.
    A typical known guitar face:
    1. Lindsey Buckingham
    2. Carlos Santana
    3. Angus Young
    4. Michael Schenker
    5. Jimi Hendrix
    6. Rick Nielsen
    7. Alex Lifeson

Oh, Bret & Jemaine, how I’ve missed you!! Anyone know the date that season 2 of FOTC premieres on HBO?
Also, I’ll throw Stevie Ray Vaughan into the bizarre/hot guitar face mix.

  • KG

    definitely not john mayer

  • BGG

FOTC FTW! Doesn’t Prince have a pretty intense guitar face?

  • tamuchi

Daniel Kessler of Interpol. Nuff said.

  • Cliff

Eddie Van Halen always makes a surprised face, like he didn’t know he could play guitar before that moment.

  • sherry

doesn’t anyone remember Alvin Lee of “Ten Years After” ?
    that is a guitar face

  • Eric Friedmann

Sherry, I watch WOODSTOCK and I remember!

  • Donald

    B.B. King

Paul McCartney makes some silly faces even though he plays bass.

My sole vote is for Guitar Face himself, Mr. Mayer. Can I get an “O”?!

Angus Young from AC/DC is the very definition of “guitar face.”

  • liz

without a doubt – dave matthews

  • nathan

In my opinion, Madonna makes the best guitar face, at least the best air guitar face.

  • JoeC

Jimmy Page, of course! Check out Song Remains the Same if there are any doubts; the man defined the term stage presence. That’s why Zep named their 76 album Presence, after all.

  • Martha

I’m partial to Nigel Tufnel’s guitar face, myself.

  • Jill

Peter Frampton looks like he wishes he were singing the whole time he’s playing; it’s like he’s lip-synching his guitar chords.

  • Dinosaur

Nobody guitar-faces as well as Stevie Ray Vaughan.

  • Winona

Isaac Hanson. Yes, I’m serious. (Mandi Bierly will likely back me up on this one.)

  • Anon

Hendrix mightve been the first mainstream on…John Mayer looks mentally disabled when he pulls one

  • Charlee F.

Stevie Ray Vaughan. Best guitar face, you could tell he was feelin’ it, man he could play the guitar…

  • ronnierambin

    SRV and DimeBag

  • rs

of course that ERIC CLAPYON, who do you think Mayer copied from

    steve vai..that’s the best one

  • farzoid
