On the Scene: Indie Spirits red carpet

Rainnwilson_l Greetings from L.A., PopWatchers! We’ve all (finally) caught Oscar fever! And despite intermittent rainfall, nothing could dampen the spirits at the 2008 Indie, uh, Spirits, held Saturday afternoon on the beach in Santa Monica. For a small celebration of low-budget filmmaking, the Academy’s casual cousin has really swelled to massive proportions lately. Even Brangelina made an appearance, ducking in at the last minute under giant IFC umbrellas, then blowing right past us lowly journalists to pose for the paps (and prove someone’s pregnant). The "ngelina" half was nominated for her work in A Mighty Heart, but she didn’t win; Ellen Page did. Score one for sneakers, and check out all the results here. Not surprisingly, Juno made out like the gangbuster it is.

Since my trusty cameraman Luke and I refused to be deterred by inclement weather, I’m happy to present you now with another exclusive EW.com red carpet video, featuring several of today’s winners — Diablo Cody and Jason Reitman, Glen Hansard from Best Foreign Film winner Once, Best Doc director Dan Klores (Crazy Love), as well as your always shy and retiring host, Mr. Rainn Wilson (pictured). Cheers to all those who walked away victorious, and to everyone who continues to keep that indie spirit alive. Your movies are important. None of you are false prophets, and your God is in no way a superstition.

That woman host is so annoying! She kept trying to ask people cutesy questions and kept singing “We’ve got indie spirit! How about you?” What are you a high school cheerleader?

Ah, if only the Oscars had no commercials, allowed for cursing in acceptance speeches, were less than 3 hours, and in some way involved Steve Zahn singing.

    Whitney you are the dopeness.

Whitney, I think even a Houston Astros fan can find love.
