re: Joan + Harry – I LOVE Sondre live. That man has too much talent to spare.
My first concert ever was Genesis in 1983. It was a good show, but what I’ll most remember about the show was that it was the first time I ever smelled pot! Yes, I led a sheltered life up till then. I also remember getting rear-ended on the way home. ‘There must be some Misunderstanding/There must be some kind of mistaaaaaaake.’
Paul Simon – Born at the Right Time Tour, January 1991. We were really close and could see & hear everything. A++!
Boston, 1978 at the Chicago Stadium. Tom Scholz was quite the showman. While it was a great show, I have seen better since both in terms of energy and showmanship.
My first concert was Nickel Creek, the April 25, 2002 show in Greenville Ohio.
It was A plus plus plus, definitely. I was twelve, I went with my mom, and it was the coolest experience, especially since I got to meet the band (my idols to this day) afterwards. In all, I’ve seen Nickel Creek 8 times now, and they were better and better with each show. I was lucky enough to attend their final show (for now) in Nashville, TN, last November. Coolest 18th b-day present ever, man.
September 1990 – 11 years old – New Kids on the Block at the University of Tulsa football stadium. I cried everytime Joey sang.
Donovan – around 1972 – Madison Square Garden – a wonderful flower power smoky haze experience.
Technically I think my first concert was Journey back in 1980. I was in utero, so I can’t really comment on the quality of the show. But I’m sure it was excellent. My next concert was equally as cool, the Jackson 5 Victory Tour. What can I say, I had pretty cool parents!
My first concert was Men At Work on their Cargo tour. The Shakin’ Pyramids opened for them. It was A+ definitely.
My second concert was Bryan Adams with Platinum Blonde opening. It was terrible.
Third concert was Billy Idol on his Rebel Yell tour, he was great but the opening band again was Platinum Blonde for some weird reason and once more they stunk.
@Martha – That’s awful! As much as I like Tears for Fears missing a Smiths concert would’ve been the worst thing imaginable. They’ve been my fav for 20 years.
Milli Vanilli, with Young MC opening.
It was an A+++ just because I get to tell people 19 years later that I went to that concert. It tops them all.
Bryan Adams. I was 14. Waking Up the World Tour. I’ve been to millions of shows since, but that was definitely A+++. I wore the t-shirt to school a couple times and older kids totally ragged on me. I still have the shirt and those kids can get bent! BA is my guilty pleasure.
Rick Nelson when I was 7 in a high school gymnasium in Indianapolis. I really can’t remember anything about that, so I’ll go with my first one in an actual “venue” (if you can call it that), which was the Rolling Stones at the Hoosier Dome. It was an A show (got to love Keith Richards singing solo on a couple of tunes) but it was far from a sellout and the Stones have refused to return to Indy ever since.
