You know the drill, even if at this point the drill sounds like a tinny, broken alarm buzz from one of Flava Flav’s busted clock necklaces. My personal Must List vote for the week is twofold: Thing 1 and Thing 2 from last night’s season premiere of Flavor of Love 3. Flav named them that, ostensibly because The Cat in the Hat is his fave piece of literature, but possibly because his eyes don’t even function at this point and all he sees are hovering shapes. But since that will never make the cut, send us your real suggestions (up to three) for the best TV, music, books, movies, games, and knee-slapping Internet triumphs of the week. Include your email address so we can contact you if your submission is chosen.* The deadline for entries is 8 a.m. tomorrow, February 13th.

“America’s Ballroom Challenge” on PBS. Delicious cheesefest with extra glitter and a side of dry commentary from former dancer Ron Montez.
1. Stephen King’s DARK TOWER series — one of the many inspirations to the creators of my other must, Lost. A comic book telling of the early adventures of Roland of Gilead was one of the best selling graphic novels of 2007, and another comic mini-series begins soon.
1) The Grammys–A music awards show with actual talented performers…Tina Turner totally out-sexied Beyonce
2) Survivor All-Stars
3) The King of Kong on DVD
Lupe Fiasco’s The Cool just keeps getting better and better. My favorite song changes everytime I listen to the album(Superstar, Hip-Hop Saved My Life, Hello/Goodbye). Every song has such a distinctive beat and flow that I can listen to the entire album, from beginning to end, and as soon as the last note plays on the final song, start it all up from the beginning again.

If you were ever curious about what turned on the Fuhrer, here’s your chance to learn more.
I must have: WordGirl on PBS Kids. Believe it or not, this 30-year-old loves a kids show more than any of the other dreck currently on TV (hi, American Gladiators!). This 1/2 hour show about a word-wise superheroine is as well-written and witty as Veronica Mars (and 100% less canceled). WordGirl (alias Becky) saves her town from hilarious villains like Chuck the Evil Sandwich-Making Guy and manages to teach but never preach. She’s the most powerful kid in town, but isn’t above a full-on freakout when faced with a pony. To top it all off, her sidekick is a monkey named Bob with his very own secret identity: Captain Huggyface. Adults “forced” to watch this one with the kids will end up DVRing it for themselves. Word up!
1. Possible end to the writers’ strike…please please please.
2. The L Word–good soapy fun. This straight gal totally digs it!
3. Campaigns to save Friday Night Lights. Clear eyes, full hearts, can’t lose this amazing show!
As huge supporters of Friday Night Lights, I hope you’ll add this campaign to the Must List:

BTW: maybeimamazed02@yahoo.com
Fight Quest on the Discovery Channel. They go to some really cool places to learn different types of fighting. Their training includes crazy stuff like punching trees with their bare knuckles and getting hit with sticks. I can’t stop watching.
The Boondocks
1.Vince Gill – “I just got an award presented to me by a Beatle. Have you had that happen yet, Kanye?” INSTANT CLASSIC!!!
2. Vince Gill – Im still laughing. . .
3. Vince Gill – Im not even a fan of his but just for that i feel like buying his cd. . .
1. pandora.com – free internet radio where you make your own station that plays music based on what you like. I’ve discovered so much new music this way.
2. Universal HD – airing shows like battlestar, kidnapped and threshold in all their HD glory. nice for those of us who are new to hd.
3. The Complete Persepolis – haven’t been able to catch the movie yet but the book is touching, enlightening and hopeful . A great reminder not to assume you know what someone is about just because of how they look or where they are from
Friday Night Lights. Best show on TV. PERIOD.
since nobody puts video games here, i figure I’d put out BioShock for the 360 (even though it came out last year), its an awesome game… plus No More Heroes for the Wii which just came out which is just as stylish as Killer 7 and just as crazy! honestly, this writers strike reminded me how much video games are important & fun.
oh yea i forgot! big up to Friday Night Lights y’all!
oh yea i forgot! big up to Friday Night Lights y’all!
Melinda Doolittle’s release of “My Funny Valentine” on iTunes– the wait is over, the true talent of season six returns, and the result is vocally amazing and stylistically impeccable.
Equally awesome: her cute blog on the release– http://blog.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.view&friendID=100652337&blogID=356959802
thecheappop.com- mustache envy and great interviews
Two documentaries:
U23D: (Almost) even better than the real thing. Catch it in IMAX if at all possible.
Quantum Hoops ( http://www.quantumhoops.com/ ): A documentary about the perennially losing Caltech basketball team– who they are, what they do and why they keep hoping even when all sense would tell you that it’s hopeless (and yes, I am a bit biased, since it’s about my alma mater).
1. Survivor Fans vs. Favs: I may have had to wait many seasons to see Johnny Fairplay declare himself the best player of all time and then get voted off first, but it was worth it!
2. hsx.com: Seriously I can not get enough of this site. And with the actual stock market acting the way it is, I’d rather use my fake millions to invest in Indiana Jones 4 and Johnny Depp. (both of which have lost me money – but still)
3. Once again will.i.am and the “Yes We Can” video. Electrifying.
Friday Night Lights is the best acted, best written, and overall greatest show on TV. It would be a CRIME to cancel this show!
1)Kanye West’s tribute to his mom during the Grammys.
2)lostpedia.com(for all LOST obsessed fans)
3)Lupe Fiasco, The Cool,
The Daily Show Correspondents:
Despite its continued popularity, I never thought The Daily Show with Jon Stewart would reach the heights of hilarity/importance it held in its glory days during the 2004 presidential election. Jon Stewart was great and all, but a lot of the pre-filmed segments fell flat once Samantha Bee became the only surviving member of the dream team that included Stephen Colbert, Ed Helms, and Rob Corrdorry. But last week, the regime finally came into their own with their polling adventure and Jason Jones’ “Dirty Jobs” parody. They are now the only reason I’m not sick of election coverage yet.
Duma Key by Stephen King. Only Stephen King could add paintings to the list of things that now give me the heebie-jeebies.
1.) I hate to state what might be obvious (or not), but I am LOVING Simon Cowell on American Idol this year. I know the last thing this show needs is yet another shout-out, but I feel like Simon deserves more credit for his role than he actually gets. He is very entertaining!
2.) Friday Night Lights: Hands down the best show on TV. It is so good, I am willing to forgive it for those occasions in this sophomore season when it is not being very FNLesque.
3.) Surprise after surprise on Lost. Welcome back!!
The four new cast members on Lost. Now that is how you incorporate new characters…
Chelsea Lately on E! – so funny
In the Aeroplane Over the Sea-Neutral Milk Hotel
This week marks the 10th anniversary of the release of Neutral Milk Hotel’s album In the Aeroplane Over the Sea. Sure, it’s not as well known as Sgt. Pepper’s, but among those who know it it’s one of the most fiercely beloved albums of all time. I know it might be a stretch to include a largely unknown psychedelic album on a list based on current pop culture, but, and yes, I’m really going to say this, look into your hearts. Sure, Kanye was great at the Grammys, Survivor’s new gimmick is pretty cool, but what you have here is the opportunity to share something truly special with a huge audience. If Margot & the Nuclear So-And-So’s can earn a spot on the must list, Neutral Milk surely can as well.
In fact, here, take a look at some of the user reviews on rateyourmusic for the album. As you can tell I care deeply about this.
“This is the type of album that renews your faith in music. It climbs, it crashes, it breathes and burns and breaks through to the heart of what music can be, what it should be.”-sebby
“There is a certain spirituality that flows through this album. In “Ghost” a woman in New York City jumps to her death from a burning building and in “Holland, 1945” another woman is killed by the Nazis, but both songs see reincarnation and rebirth at the end of life. It’s strange, but even though it’s filled with death, there is no other album that swells with life in the way In the Aeroplane Over the Sea does.”-Bumblepuppy
“I read a review for this album on Salon, and the reviewer claimed that you would become a better person if you listened to it.
It’s true. You will.”-wileloman
If you haven’t heard this album, please, please, go find it and give it a listen NOW
