USA Today has dubbed There Will Be Blood’s "I drink your milkshake! I drink it up!" Hollywood’s hottest catchphrase. It also gives the origin of the quote — a transcript of a 1924 congressional hearing unearthed by Oscar-nominated writer-director Paul Thomas Anderson, who, incidentally, says he loves that YouTube video (below).
So is this your favorite movie quote of 2007? Or can you think of one that’s better than yours his? Nominate away.

I like “Wizard!” and “Honest to Blog?” from JUNO – 2007’s BEST MOVIE. I also like “I don’t really know what kind of girl I am.” but have not quite wedged it in to everyday conversation yet.
“How about a shave?” from Sweeney Todd. It makes my skin crawl just thinking about it.
My favorite is “I got a boner!” from Superbad.
I’m sure there will be better ones mentioned, but the first that came to my mind was McLovin.
I like “this is one doodle that can’t be undid homeskillet” and “what other kind of shenanigans can I get into?” from Juno. There are tons of great quotes from that movie.
haha my friends and i saw this movie a few weeks ago and we’re still quoting the milkshake and DRAAAAAAIIIINNAAGGE lines. btw, thanks for all the TWBB posts!
I concur…
“Mclovin!!!”
Gotta say, I didn’t love There Will Be Blood, but I did love this little video! That milk shake speech was memorable.
I agree with Amber. There’s tons of great ones from Juno. “You should’ve gone to China. I hear they give away babies like free iPods!”
I also agree about Superbad. Tons of great quotes from that one, too.
I think alot of people will remember 300: “This. Is. Spartaaaa!!!”
Since “Ratatouille” is my favorite movie of the year, I’d have to go with “Anyone can cook”…such a simple idea and theme, but so true.
Honorary mention goes to “You gandered at my ward” – Alan Rickman in “Sweeney Todd”
Since Atonement is this years best movie… how about this one from Cecilia (Keira) – “I love you. I’ll wait for you. Come back. Come back to me.”
I forgot to add this one from Michael Clayton – “Does it look like I’m negotiating?”
And my absolute favourite quote of the year is from Elizabeth: The Golden Age – “I, too, can command the wind, sir! I have a hurricane in me that will strip Spain bare when you dare to try me!” Cate’s delivery of this gave me chills…it was fantastic!
This should be included in that post about bad dialogue. WHO WROTE THAT INTO THE MOVIE?!?!!?!
Nick,
Are you referring to the milkshake line? If so, I agree… I don’t see (or hear) what all the commotion is about… it was pretty cheesy, just like the rest of the horrible scene it was in… I hated that scene with a passion!!
My favorite, and by far the funniest, movie this year is Hot Fuzz. So many good lines:
“Well, I wouldn’t argue that it wasn’t a no holds barred, adrenaline fueled thrill ride. But, there is no way you can perpetrate that amount of carnage and mayhem and not incur a considerable amount of paperwork.”
Watching that clip makes me so not want to see this movie….I like DDL, but that seems to be “overacting”.
“Call it, Friendo.” — No Country for Old Men
For me, the sign of a good line is whether I can use it at work. So my favorite one this season is “Don’t be thick in front of me, Al” from There Will Be Blood. (Last year’s quote was from The Departed – “I’m the guy who does his job. You must be the other guy!”
I haven’t seen (and probably won’t) There Will Be Blood. Can somebody please explain the context of this line, because I can’t for the life of me figure out how it would fit into a scene naturally…
From Superbad:
“You scratch our backs, we’ll scratch yours.”
“Well Jules, the funny thing about my back is that it’s located on my c0ck.”
totally agree with the Hot Fuzz line and anything else from Hot Fuzz, especially the “Playime’s over” or “Cool Off” bit. and ANYTHING from Superbad. But what about, “I’m going to mace you in the face!” from Darjeeling Limited? I didn’t actually see it, but I remember seeing that trailer and just laughing for hours.
Juno…”Are you sure it’s not a food baby?”. “It’s not a food baby. I am fo’shizz up the spout!’
Loved “There Will Be Blood” and love this youtube clip. However, it is a toss up between “Superbad” and “Hot Fuzz” for the best lines of the year. Honorable mention would go to “No Country for Old Men” and “Micheal Clayton”. “I am Sheeba the Angel of Death”
mscisluv – it fits in naturally in that DDL’s character is an egomaniacal tyrant. He can say whatever he wants.
As for quotes, ditto Amber:
“I’m already pregnant, so what other kind of shenanigans could I get into?”
I will probably misquote… but my favorite is from Juno: “It has fingernails? I wonder if it could claw its way out of your vaj.” Totally used it when my sister told me she was prego a few weeks ago.
All of Ogie’s “poetry” in Waitress, especially “If I had a penny for everything I liked about you . . . I would have many pennies.” I think my most quoted would be from Hot Fuzz – “You’re off the f***ing chain!!” and the very last line in TWBB.
300 “On my signal unleash hell”
Juno- “As far as boyfriends go, Bleeker is the boss. He is the cheese to my macaroni.”
**SPOILER** The milkshake quote is from the end of the movie. **SPOILER**
In a nutshell, Daniel Day Lewis’ character owns and drills on all the land except this spot he leases. The shady priest is trying to sell it and DDL says all the oil’s been tapped because if one has a milkshake on one side, all someone else need is a long straw to drink their milkshake even if he is not right there. Then he does a demonstration. I thought the scene was GD great.
I like this one from the Bourne Ultimatum: ” If you were in your office right now we’d be having this conversation face-to-face”
Did not like the milkshake line. A little fyi, it was taken straight from a court document word-for-word.
