Country fans, don’t cuss me out, but Faith Hill’s music has always had a narcoleptic effect on me. Bland, blond, blah… I just didn’t get what all the fuss was about. (In gossip-land, I admit she’s piqued my interest for things like turning up at the 2001 American Music Awards with a gutsy, albeit ill-advised, haircut and scolding a fan who got handsy with husband Tim McGraw during a 2007 concert.)
But now, after watching her wrestle "That’s All Right, Mama" to the ground, I’m gonna rethink my position. The video — a performance shot for ABC’s 2007 TV special Elvis: Viva Las Vegas — debuted on the country star’s official website today, and it proves Faith has more fire than I thought.
PopWatchers, let us know: Do you think the country-pop hitmaker does the King’s song justice? And would you like to see more of this side of Faith Hill?

Let me guess Christine, you prefer Wonder Bread to any other. That is one of the worst Elvis covers ever done (and why must people try to cover a classic without making it their own?). I don’t know what you normally cover for EW.com, but I hope it isn’t music.
No, I disagree. This is definitely a step in the right direction for someone as bland as Faith Hill.
Is this her new single or something? I much prefer the Dixie Chicks.
Um…color me not impressed. I was not excited by that performance at all. I usually enjoy Faith Hill. Oops.
Nowhere close to being as good as the original. Not many remakes stand up to the original–Nirvana’s Man Who Sold the World and The Fugee’s Killing Me Softly come to mind as exceptions.
Faith is awesome. She has one amazing soulful voice and no one can sing gospel like her.
So typical how people love to put down people that are successful. Faith is a beautiful woman inside and out and has earned her success.
To all the naysayers get a life.
This is an exciting side of Faith…never thought of her as bland..but love this style and she does an honest cover…give us more of this Faith
Yeah, I don’t see her as bland at all. “Cry” was a misstep, but “Breathe” and “Fireflies” were 2 of the strongest country albums of the last 10 years, easily.
Faith Hill is AMAZING and this performance demonstrates how GOOD she is LIVE. Having seen her 6 times in concert, I can tell you that she sounds that much better in a concert hall than she does on any of her albums. But go back to her first album, before she was overproduced in the studio, to really hear how strong her vocals are.
This cover is not bad for Faith Hill. It’s certainly very un-Disneyfied for her (love the Target logo on the stage). However, it’s just awful compared to the orginal- and I blame the band just as much as Faith. It’s hillbilly elevator music.
Nope. She’s still boring and fake. and riding on the coattails of her husband.
Count me in the Faith Hill, blond/blah fan club. Never did get her appeal, still don’t. That said, nothing Faith sings will ever be as bad than the upcoming Jessica Simpson country album *shudder*.
Meh- it wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t impressive or anything. Kind of boring. Give me the real thing on vinyl anyday.
The reverb they use on her voice is really distracting. This is the style that Faith Hill should be singing but I would have liked more fire and personality. It’s not bad though.
Now that just plain sucked! I’m not a major fan of Elvis put the man had grit to his voice when it needed it. Faith is channeling herself if she was a tough balls kickin’ gal — and she’s not.
But her last CD was a step in the right direction, the girl can sing a somber song with just enough lilt to her voice.
Great! Thanks for posting this.
