Currently on my Must List: Jonny Greenwood (pictured). Not just for the Radiohead guitarist’s haunting, evocative score for There Will Be Blood (in this week’s Must List in the magazine) but also because I can’t get "Reckoner," off In Rainbows, out of the endless loop in my head.
How about you, PopWatchers? Please send us up to three of your indispensible current choices in music, TV, movies, books, comics, videogames, or websites. Send them along with your e-mail address (for verification purposes) by 10. am. Thursday, Jan. 17, and we may use your pick in the magazine’s Must List next week. Reckon you can do that?

Season Finale of Life on Mars – I sure hope Sam makes it back to the future!
-Sunshine on DVD
-The Juno Soundtrack (I heart Kimya Dawson)
-Paul Dano in There Will Be Blood
Blu-Ray! With Warner officially abandoning HD-DVD, the format war is all but over!
-Cashmere Mafia
1. American Idol finally gets the good/bad ratio right in the series premier! Let’s hope the good judgement lasts until May.
2. Tale of the Mighty Knights the new Backyardigans movie. “We’re Knights” sung by Uniqua and Tyrone is incredibly catchy and Adam Pascal’s version of the final song is sweeeet. Plus all the great scenery is just a treat to look at. I don’t know if my kids enjoy it as much as I do – but who cares – I get to watch children’s programming without slipping into a coma.
“Rent” on Broadway. Producers have announced that the long-running show will close this summer after 12 years. Just a few more months to see what made this show so great and groundbreaking!
- The Wire (it will be on the list until forever)
- Vampire Weekend (myspace.com/vampireweekend
- Shawty Lo’s Dey Know remix (listen at myspace.com/therealshawtylo), especially Lil Wayne’s vecoder verse … “all my kicks is fly, just like Liu Kang)
- Office re-runs on TBS. They, at least, make my heart smile a little bit.
- American Gladiators … I guess.
Juno…go see it again
Jamie Oliver back on Food Network
“Shantaram” by Gregory David Roberts
Michael Cera and Ellen Page’s cover of “Anyone Else But You”–Their version of this song is haunting me after I saw the movie a month ago.
To add to Nathan’s Blu-Ray comment, the YouTube video “The Downfall of HD-DVD” is a keeper, especially if you’ve seen the film it borrows from.
1)Orangutan Island on Animal Planet – It’s the first show since the writer’s strike that I have given a season pass to on my DVR. I may not be able to get scripted comedy and drama but these apes are naturally full of both.
2)Plies – Hypnotize ft. Akon
3)Paul Marturano’s ode to Paula on American Idol! I usually hate the bad additions, but I can’t stop playing this one again and again on You Tube.
Simmon is right he is really creepy.
The finale of the Amazing Race is a MUST SEE this Sunday. For the first time in a very long while, the final three teams are wholly unobjectionable, plus with two guys over 50, a record could be set with the oldest winners in Amazing Race history.
this might be just me but is that Zac Efron in 5 years? HAHA i don’t know who he is but that looks like HSM after 5 hit of coke…. hahahaha
1) Jamie Bell. Billy Elliot grew up a while ago and will be in 2 movies out this season, well-praised indie “Hallam Foe” (starring role) and the big budgeter “Jumper” (whose trailer is rocking my world), which his character will apparently pwn, judging from the prequel novel and the video-game spinoff.
2) “The Triangle Song”. Jars of Clay’s new little ditty on their MySpace. they’re channeling the fratellis now.
3) Justin Townes Earle, Steve’s boy, and his roots-rock-’acana.
THERE WILL BE BLOOD – Essential viewing for any true cinema fan, in my opinion. That is, if you can find a theater near you that it’s playing in. Good luck, middle America!
