How would you improve 'American Idol'?

‘Tis the season for American Idol pundits (myself included) and fans (yes, you!) to come out of the woodwork and tell the show’s producers how Read the full post.

    Remove Paula and Randy.
    No more Give Back
    No more scripted Q&A
No more embarrassing moments of the contestants (wasteing time)lives
No more asking the losers to peform at the end before going home
No more seating arrangements for losers and winners.
    Oust the losers immediately.
Top 24 – remove 12 instead of two at a time each week.
Use professional mentors that are in tune with today’s music.
No more !!&?/!%$ ballads! in the top 12. Force the contestants to belt out their singing range.
If they fluff it, oust them. No second chances.
Bring in a second panel of judges on the sidelines to decide who goes and who stays from the top 12. Professional musicians and songwriters to decide who stays on the show date. No more second results day.
60 minutes to perform, 15 minutes to declare who is going home on the same night.

Personally, I remove the show from the air.
    Suggestions:
    No more:
Give-Back; Q&A; Seating for losers and winners; last performances from losers; movies of contestants as actors in short clips; Embarrassing moments in their lives; 60 minutes to oust losers – announce the losers straight away via a second panel of professional non-biased judges composed of highly successful artist in the music industry.
    Paula and Randy-phase them out.
Reduce the top 24 to 12 in three weeks. Judges decision, (second panel) not the voters. No more scripted comments or producer scripted oustings to contestants.

First of all, I have been a fan of the show from the start. I have enjoyed most of what has happened. What I think would make the show better is:
-Rotating Judges – This would be a good idea. I would make sure that any new and even the current judges are very blunt. We are looking for great performers, not cuddling “ok” singers. If they can’t take the heat, they’re in the wrong competition!!!
-I like the idea of voting for the weaker performances. Voting off the weaker performers would be more accurate, if the tracking is done properly.
-I also think that each fan/phone line should get only one vote. With that vote, they should put the contestants in the order. Best performance for THE NIGHT is first going through to the Weakest performance for THE NIGHT.
-I wish there were a way to insure that voting was made based on actual performances rather than the popularity contest that it has become!!

Overall the show is fine. It is quite a feat to be in the top ten year after year, and astronomical to be number one. So, give the producers credit for their achievement.
I enjoy the theme nights. Beatles, Dolly, etc. I wrinkle my nose at the shmaltzy group sing-alongs the contestants are forced to do. I zip through those.
The valid points I’ve read in these comments concern the lack of positive, constructive criticism from the judges, particularly Paula. I found a previous comment about Randy’s “grab bag of four adjectives” funny, yet true. That said, I would not replace anyone on that panel, as they are the one’s who have been instrumental in it’s success. Simon speaks truth as any hard-nosed music industry scout would, and that is what these kids need. The voting should be one to a customer. The judges could unanimously over-rule the outcome of weakest two. Letting Jason Castro stay after Michael Johns was a crime, exposing the flawed popular vote. David Cook, good luck!

One thing to improve American Idol is to get rid of the age limit and toss it out with the trash. The maximum age limit of 28 is just plain stupid. If there has to be an age limit, it is best to have it at 99 or 72. Senior citizens have great talent and with a senior citizen up there, the younger people learn what music was like when the seniors were young.

I enjoyed seeing Sherman Pore audition. Eventhough that he was 64 and that was 36 years over the stupid age limit of 28. I love big band music and bagpipe music. I wouldn’t mind if they did a song and had bagpipes play along with the music. Back in the days when Sherman Pore was a child, big band and easy listening music was almost about all there was. Classical was also on as well. Rap music didn’t come out until 1977.

Lose Kara and Paula. Bring in the cute Brit from britain’s got talent, or someone with credibility who is lucid unlike Paula, and not so annoying as Kara. She never shuts up, is unattractive, and has not added any value to the show.

Three judges are enough: Randy, Paula
and Simon were doing a great job without adding the 4th one!!!!!!!

I’d select the judges favorite of the week and give her immunity from elimination. This way the best performer doesn’t go home because didn’t have enough votes for whatever reason.
