Occasionally — and by that I mean whenever I can’t decide whether to karaoke "We Belong" or "Love is a Battlefield" — I wonder which is Pat Benatar’s best song.* Let’s give her the gift of knowledge for her 55th birthday. Is it:
"We Belong"
or "Love Is a Battlefield"?
* Write-in votes for "Invincible," "Heartbreaker," "Hit Me With Your Best Shot," or "All Fired Up" (the song I’d demand be used for the training montage in the movie version of my life — if I ever do anything that constitutes "training") will be accepted. Even though you’re wrong.

“We Belong” – if only for the WTF green gloves she’s wearing in the video.
Those songs are crap! The only good Benatar is early Benatar. Check out the video for “Shadows of the Night.” It’s like a mini-movie!
“We Belong” is the better of the two. “Shadows Of The Night” is my personal favorite though.
“Love is a Battlefield.” The video combines defiant grrrl attitude with ’80s over the top tongue in cheek. Or was that tongue in chic?
Pat Benetar rocks! The better song is “Love is a Battlefield” — it’s very epic and the epitome of the 80s. The better video is also “Love is a Battlefield” for the awesome dance sequence that ends with a drink in the face. Pat’s a bad-ass!
I’ve always been partial to “No You Don’t” and “Shadows of the Night” but if I had to choose between those two it would be “Love is a Battlefield.”
I’ll go with “We Belong”, if only for “The Office” episode in which Kelly serenates a horrified Ryan with a karaoke version of the song (“We belong together….Ryan.”
My favorites are “Love Is A Battlefield” and “All Fired Up”, but if I had to choose, I would pick the first one. Benatar rocks!
Choosing btw the two I take “Love is a Battlefield”. But her best song is “Heartbreaker”. You do NOT want to be in the car with me when that song comes on.
Love is a Battlefield rocks, and is one of those ‘it takes me back there’ songs, but We Belong is more powerfully moving and uplifting to me, so I’ll have to vote for that.
It is my birthday as well (seriously) and I vote for Heartbreaker. Sorry Mandi, I win because Pat and I share a special birthday bond.
What no “Hell is for Children?”
We Belong is the best ballad, while All Fired Up is the best up tempo song.
“Promises in the Dark” is one of her finest songs because it showed off her voice control. Opera trained bad-assed singer. Happy B-day Miss Benetar.
Love is a battlefield= better video; We Belong = better song of the two…but really Heartbreaker tops them all.
Are you *%$@D& serious?
I second “Promises in the Dark”!!
Love these suggestions, and they’re making me regret that I don’t own the woman’s entire oeuvre. So good! Happy b-day, Ms. Benatar!
Love is a Battlefield.
Um, hello? “Hell is for Children,” yo. Thank you, Mary Anne.
Get Nervous.
I’m going with “Love is a Battlefield”, for sure. I’m a big “Shadows of the Night” fan also, though!
I always liked La Bel Age
I’m gonna go with “Invincible” because of the awesomeness that is The Legend of Billie Jean! I cannot listen to that song without remembering how much I loved that cheesy movie in the 80’s.
Definitely “Heartbreaker”. I loved it in my teens an it’s one of my 9 yr olds favorites……..she 5 starred it in my iPod……..and its fun to watch a 9 yr old sing it at the top of her lungs
Overall, Heartbreaker is her best song. Of these two, Love is a Battlefield wins, hands down. It’s not that We Belong is a bad song, but it’s just a little bit boring next to the supreme eighties-ness of Love is a Battlefield.
Overall, Heartbreaker is her best song. However, of these two, Love is a Battlefield wins hands down. Because it’s infinitely more fun to dance to.
Well, if “Invincible” doesn’t count, then my vote has to go to “We Belong.”
c’mon hell i s for children is the best; makes Luka sound like a happy ditty. But seriously Heartbreaker is her best. Loved her in my teenage years.
I always had a thing for Shadows Of The Night, although We Belong has held up pretty well. On a side note/misheard lyrics category I had a friend who thought “Stop Using Sex As A Weapon” was Stop Using Eggs As A Weapon. Makes sense to me.
