The 'Pirates Who Don't Do Anything' trailer is misleading

I don’t know. It seems like they’re doing a LOT.

Check me if I’m wrong, but one of them is an olive; isn’t that fruit?

I LOVE Veggie Tales! My kids are teenagers now, but I still look for excuses to watch. Religious, yes, but funny and loopy as well.

  • WH

The children, they cannot wait. We’ll be going soon to see Larry, my green man.

I know one’s a tomato, and that’s fruit too! I had to sit through so many Veggietales movies in church when I was younger- I can’t believe they’re still making them!

  • Coach’s Mistress

Really? An olive is a fruit? Never knew!
    Larry and Bob ROCK!

Mikey – I can’t believe I’m admitting to knowing this, but the “olive” is actually a grape (Pa Grape), and no, is not a vegetable. But honestly, isn’t a tomato not a vegetable either? =)

This looks wicked cute…does anyone know if I can safely take my 5-year-old? I don’t know much about Veggie Tales (although if they play them in church, how bad can they be?).

  • Adrienne

I probably shouldn’t admit this, but I lOVE Veggies Tales. I discovered it while babysitting back in college. The Pirates Who Don’t Do Anything was one of my favorite songs.
Martha — Veggie Tales is aimed at young children, so you can absolutely take your 5-year-old. Just know that all Veggie Tales stories have a Christian theme to them and talk about God and/or the Bible.

Well, I for one am super excited. Name me a better song than The Pirates Who Don’t Do Anything (besides Cheesburger – that one is obvious).

“Pirates” is the best ever, but “Oh Santa” or “Belly Button” are wonderful as well. I’m so happy to see there are other adults who find Veggietales hilarious- I use the songs as a pick-me-up when I’m having a bad day.. and the Pirates are my all time favorites!

  • Anne

I love the Veggie Tales. The Belly Button song is great. And I loved the Second Chances song in Jonah-it reminded me of the church scene in The Blues Brothers.

  • Martha

Thanks, Adrienne, for the response – looking forward to a little mother/daughter date with the veggie guys.

LOVE Veggie Tales! “Pirates” is an all-time classic, but I’m also partial to “I Love My Lips” and “The Yodeling Veternarian of the Alps.” And they did the best Star Trek parody ever.

  • Robbie

I didn’t watch the trailer, but I’ll admit the title and body of this entry made me laugh out loud a little.

  • furry_tom

The trailer’s just full of inaccuracies, they say their Jonah movie was the most sucessful vegetable movie of all time. What about Children of the Corn?*
*I measure success by how many god-awful, direct-to-video sequels a movie generates.

I’m a hardcore atheist and I still love watching veggietales. I will definitely rent this.

The movie is terrific no matter what anyone says. Not only is it allegorical, it has so much hidden truth in it, it makes it fun to find. Obviously, the father is God. But the Help Seeker is the Holy Spirit. It comes from the Father. The daughter KNOWS it’s good because it comes from the Father. It leads them to where the Father wanted them to go and gives them a choice to join what He’s doing or just go home. The Cheese Curls are sins that waylay us. The Help Seeker comes back in the end, which is to say there’s always more adventure in following what the Father wants. Much, much more….I love it.

I LOVE the Veggie Tales! I brought my 6 and 3 year olds to this movie and they enjoyed it. I liked Jonah better, though.
Our favorite song is “The Hairbrush Song”. We also like “I Love My Lips” and the one where Larry is waiting for the bus and the squash sits on his hat…
