Do horror flicks (and Adam Sandler pics) reduce real-life violent crime?

Offscreen, have imaginary killers like Jigsaw (pictured below), Jason, and Freddy actually saved lives? Maybe. Read the full post.

Perhaps a better use of your time would be to bring society to the point where such a word is not associated with your child’s disability. And perhaps if you could come to a point where you respect others rights to say such things on a public board are as integral to our society as your rights to choose not to come here to see them, we’ll have a society of people who choose not to be offended, just as much as we have a society of people that choose not to offend. The Humpty Dumpty philosophy of words says that intent defines a word, not letters strung together. Nick had no intent, so you could have just chosen not to take offense- a better solution for you and your child IMO, so that the word becomes non-hurtful as a lasting solution. Just food for thought.
As far as Adam Sandler- I’ve liked a lot of his movies, and have high hopes for the new one, but this theory will be quickly debunked, I think.

Let me get this straight–the problem isn’t people using offensive language, it’s the people who “choose” to be offended by it? So if the African-American community decided to “choose” not to be offended by the “N” word, then we could all start using it, no problem? And as far as intent goes, if I mean to say that someone drove a hard bargain and I say “he tried to Jew me down,” then that’s OK, too, because of my “intent?” Ummm….no. Those are slurs. Just as the homosexual community has complained when people use the phrase “that’s so gay” to mean “that’s so stupid,” so does the disability community feel when “retarded” is used that way. If Nick meant “stupid” then he should have used the word stupid, not a word that demeans and marginalizes people like my child. And kindly do not lecture me on how I should spend my time making the world a better place for her. I’ve spent the past 6 years fighting for her rights, education, raising money, you name it. You have no right to judge me.
