Still ashamed of that New Year's Day TV marathon you got sucked into?

Badtv_lGood news: You’re not alone.

Here’s an email chain that started working its way through the EW TV department the afternoon of Jan. 1:

Henry Goldblatt: It’s the New Year, and I’m already committing my first sin: the Top Model marathon on VH1.* Someone please stage an intervention, I can’t stop watching.

Kristen Baldwin: Watched 4 episodes of the Eva Pigford season…in other news, I season-passed Biggest Loser Couples yesterday. Help me.

Missy Schwartz: I watched a Janice Dickinson Modeling Agency marathon (pictured, above)—twice. I’m pretty sure that’s worse.

Alynda Wheat: My mother and Iseriously debated the merits of filing an assault complaint againstyour model manager after Janice slapped her drunk himbo. My mother islitigious.

Lindsay Soll: One Tree Hill marathon on SoapNet. And Missy, I watched that, too—when she started the Latin division, ha!

Tim Stack: Keeping Up with the Kardashians (pictured, below) marathon! I’m obsessed with Chloe, the mannish daughter.

Jeff Jensen: Biggest Loser = me.

Time to join the fun: Which marathon hooked you Jan. 1?

*The America’s Next Top Model marathon continues today. So far, I’ve kept my New Year’s resolution of choosing the Discovery Channel over Top Model repeats. It was easy to do when I was watching Dirty Jobs‘ Mike Rowe clean up polar bear crap. How sad is that?

Ok, I see that the staff members commenting work at the “EW TV department”, but still…are you guys crazy?!?!? You spend New Years Day watching Biggest Loser and other stupid “reality” shows? I know this is being posted for a chuckle, but these admissions are deeply sad. If you were in fact stuck watching TV all afternoon on a holiday, at least tune in to a college football bowl game or something.

    COLLEGE FOOTBALL, HERE!!!

  • Elizabeth

My roommate and I watched every episode possible of “The First 48″ on A&E over the holidays… that show is addictive!

  • louise

NYD I watched law and order, I LOVE IT! I watch it every day all three versions

  • Glenn

I watched a Three’s Company marathon on New Year’s day and it was great. It may be total 70’s cheese, but it is still far better than a lot of current TV shows. Now that John Ritter has passed away, it makes watching these episodes all the more special. You rock Mr. Furley!

Same marathon I watch every year, The Twilight Zone on Sci-Fi.

  • Sara

I tried watching both Janice and Top Model, but my cable sucks right now and I couldn’t take the stuttering and halting and had to switch channels. :(

  • mcbridefan

“Monk” marathon on USA network …fortuanately the early years with Bitty Shram as Sharona.

  • Michael

I haven’t been near a TV since last week, and I had no idea VH1 was running all 9 cycles of Top Model. And people ask why I have zero friends…

  • Amber

ANTM is going to be the death of me. I can’t resist these damn marathons.

  • marilinda

the boy and i switched between dirty jobs and monk. both shows that we readily admit to enjoying but never watch.

  • bootsycolumbia

I’m even more pathetic than most. I watched a CSI:Miami marathon on A&E, a show I normally avoid like the ebola virus. But finally I got fed up and watch the outdoor NHL game on NBC. Much better.

  • marilinda

also, does anyone miss the MST3K marathons they used to do on the holidays. *sniff*

  • Christa

I watched the inaugural day of the N. South of Nowhere, Degrassi, Radio Free Roscoe…this channel will be my downfall.

I watched part of The Twilight Zone marathon too- it’s a family tradition, so no shame there. I am ashamed, however, to admit that I also watched two episodes of The Janice Dickinson Modeling Agency- I felt so stupid afterwards!

  • Amy

The Next Iron Chef, so sad Besh didn’t win :(

  • Blechchck

Intervention. I know it was played on New Years Eve, but my TiVo recorded them all and I watched them New Years day.

  • ChrisChicago

Twilight Zone Marathon – watch it every year. I sit and wait in anticipation of the episode with “I’m talking Tina, and I’m going to kill you”

The Michigan-Florida game was a great, exciting college football game. You should’ve been watching that instead. Or the Rose Parade. Or anything besides the celebritard reality shows that are killing TV.

  • ABR

ChrisChicago — that is my favorite episode too! I was watching football but had to click over to Sci-Fi every half hour until Talking Tina came on.

Oh Mandi how I love your posts!! I began to watch ANTM and as soon as my roommate got home it was Queer As Folk (Season 5 on DVD) for the rest of the day… Gale Harold is her man.

  • Sarah

I was split between The Next Food Network Star marathon and the Twilight Zone marathon on New Years. Oh and yesterday I watched the Becker marathon on the USA channel hahahah.

  • jen

Tooootally watched the One Tree Hill marathon on SoapNet…gotta get ready for season 5!!
And yup…ANTM. I can never pass it up. And the reeeally sad part? I can pop in on any episode of any cycle, and know who gets eliminated off the bat. Hey, where do I get myself one of those…um, what are they called? Oh…LIVES!

  • majigail

I have 2 and a half seasons of watched… I guess that means only 6 and a half to go. (thank god for TIVO, or not)

  • Kate

I watched bits of The States, The Twilight Zone, The Next Iron Chef (my cable company ruined it for me by announcing who won in its description of the last show.) and Law & Order SVU, which was on the day before, but I love SVU!

  • jason

i could NOT stop watching the janice dickinson modeling agency marathon, with boys in underwear in every episode. delish!

  • aymzer

I watched Jon and Kate + eight…Janice Dickinson’s modeling agency…the bad girl’s club…and that show about a bridal shop in New York

  • Gretchen

I watched college football, but switched to Monk on USA. I have seasons 1-4 on DVD, but I always watch – I love me some Mr. Monk!

  • Vanessa

Thank GAWD it wasn’t just me. I too got suckered into bits of ANTM’s seasons 1-4 even tho there isn’t an ep I haven’t seen. (Not a personal fact I’m incredibly proud of…) As a result, I came to the sad realization that Janice was a 1000% times better judge than Twiggy. And I can’t stand Janice. Oh the humanity.
I also got spent far too many hours on the not one but two Law and Order marathons. Detective Green=hottest. man. on. TV. Period.

  • Sarah C

Jon & Kate Plus 8 and the Dog Whisperer. I really don’t care for the first one that much, but I cannot stop watching.
I also have to surf quickly over VH1 lest I stumble upon the glory of vintage ANTM. I would get sucked in for days.
