Are you gonna throw bricks and custard pies at George Lucas?

Henryjonesjr_lYou’ve probably already read the spoiler-y Vanity Fair cover story on Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (in theaters May 22), but if you haven’t, here’s the link. Now we’ll issue a SPOILER ALERT of our own…

As more — well, a little more — plot information about the fourth film surfaces, are you feeling confident that Steven Spielberg, George Lucas, Harrison Ford (pictured), and Cate Blanchett are on the right track? Are you looking forward to an Indy movie that’s less supernatural and more sci-fi, as befits its Atomic Age/Cold War 1950s setting? Or are you already planning on throwing bricks and custard pies at George Lucas, as he suspects?

I’ll be honest: Reading Spielberg’s quotes about staying true to the franchise’s old-school cinematography  and Lucas’ musings on Ford’s perfect "befuddled, oh-my-God-I’m gonna-die look" got me excited.

Then again, I’m also planning on seeing Rambo.

I’m sorry, but I’m not planning on seeing Rambo!

I realize there are always going to be haters, but personally I like the direction the movie’s going.
I love the fact that they brought Karen Allen back, and I’m glad they’re moving toward a more 50s-centric/sci-fi plot. Who the heck wants to see yet another rehash of Indy searching for another religious artifact?

It’s kind of hard to judge until the trailer comes out. Spielburg and Lucas seem to be giving conflicting descriptions (it’s just like the old ones! it’s completely new!) I’ll probably see it because I like everything Shia does (even Transformers though I didn’t get the last third) and I even like recent Speilberg a lot. When is the trailer coming out?!

I know this movie will make a gazillion dollars, but I haven’t been able to get excited about it AT ALL…the whole thing seems contrived and forced. Look! Indy is Old, but he’s still ‘got it’. Why does Hollywood have to revisit (and screw up) our beloved movies??? Especially these two directors who have no problem digitally removing guns and replacing them (in E.T.) and don’t even get me started with all the tinkering that was done on the Star Wars movies…Leave Indy Alone!!!

I am so excited about this movie. I hope the spoilers are kept to a minimum, but I do like what I read in the Vanity Fair article. The world around Indy needs to age just like him and after reading the article I am very interested to see where they go with the whole 50’s sci-fi slant. And I think Cate Blanchett looks like a great villian. The only flaw will be the lack of Indy’s dad, Sean Connery. Seriously he can’t even be bothered to make a cameo?

    Harrison Ford. STILL hot.

I’m excited about the movie…. I can’t wait to see it…. not to mention, Shia LaBeouf is hot hot hot…

For some reason I just can’t get excited about this film…at all. :(

Well, this is one fan who can’t wait for it to get here—one of life’s little pleasures is watching Harrison Ford as Indy. Having read what Spielberg said in the Vanity Fair article, I think Crystal Skull just might capture the flavor of the first three movies. I’m also excited about having Karen Allen back again—she was the only believable Indy girl as far as I’m concerned.
As for George Lucas, I promise I won’t throw anything at him if he promises not to write any dialogue. Idea men don’t always make the best writers. (Star Wars 1-3 left a very bad taste in my mouth.)

Indy! Indy! Indy! Um, moving on…I really like the idea of moving the 4th movie in a different direction. I mean, would it be so much harder to buy Indy dealing with science fiction scenarios, versus Judeo-Christian ones? No, of course not, and I think it’ll fit really well with the 50s Cold War era – like Hitler was searching for biblical artifacts, the Soviets were searching for new technologies, contact with outer-space, etc. So yeah, I’m stoked.

The Indy franchise so far, one awesome movie followed by two duds (IMO). With a batting average that low I would have no reason to expect anything good, even back in 1990 when Ford was a little more age appropriate.
