For some odd reason it’s always been fashionable to bust on Madonna’s acting skills. Mostly, she picked bad vehicles. Body of Evidence…Bloodhounds of Broadway…Shanghai Surprise. Ugh… The Next Best Thing would have been ok had she not had that stupid fake British accent seeping through every line.
But look at the films she was actually hailed in…Desperately Seeking Susan, A League of Their Own, Dick Tracy and the one that got her a Golden Globe for Best Actress, Evita. Madonna is a very underappreciated actress. I believe that with the right role and right director, she could win an Oscar. Just a shame no one would give her the chance. Although I read once that Quentin Tarantino said if he had the right role he’d cast her in a heartbeat because he believes she’s got the chops.
Oh, and Who’s That Girl? LOVE IT!
I’d love to see Disney do a live action version of “The Rescuers” (like they did with 101 Dalmations) and cast Madonna as Medusa.
She can’t be much worse at it than her Tarantino-wannabe and neverwillbe husband.
Next Best thing, Body of Evidence were horrible but EVERYONE needs to be spanked, not just her. She was the only one who showed up for work in Dangerous Game, OK in Girl6, Had Evita had more live singing throughout the movie and not just the end, she may have had a nomination…maybe. Madonna, like Striesand has very good comedic timing but they take themselves too seriously and bite more than they should. They need to be directed in a role and call less shots, that could be said for a lot of vanity projects for A-listers too. That said, I am curious to see how she directs since she knows the medium and has access to see a project through. If it sucks we’ll have her new album in March and tour which is her bread and butter.
