Spot Inspection: Your current TV-on-DVD obsession

Bones_lThe current love of my life is season 1 of Bones on DVD.

I never watched the show, now in its third season, until this fall when I began reading Abby West’s killer recaps, and we found ourselves discussing how David Boreanaz (pictured, with Emily Deschanel) is "so her type" — see also: Kiefer Sutherland and Brendan Fraser — over $3 mango margaritas. I bought the first season DVD yesterday, and seriously, is there anything better than sitting down with 22 episodes that you’ve never seen but know you’ll enjoy? I cleared Disc 1 in one sitting, and let me just say this: I realize that we saw Bones (Deschanel) in a Wonder Woman costume this year, but I’ve never been more aware of a woman’s breasts than I was of hers in the pilot. When does the Fox-iness subside?

What TV show are you currently killing hours with on DVD?

Veronica Mars. People have been telling me to watch this show and now I finally was able to pick it up and I am in love with it. I’m sad that there is only three seasons to watch.

Currently, it’s Sex and the City, all 6 seasons. Several months ago, it was Buffy the Vampire Slayer, seasons 6 and 7. I pretty much lost all contact with the outside world for about a month because I had to finish the series!

I just finished HBOs Rome and loved it and I just got My So Called Life on DVD for Christmas. Should keep me busy for awhile.

gilmore girls season one. seriously funny. :)

  • Alice

I’m currently watching desperate housewives season 3 and Bones. Both are quirky and really good.

    30 Rock!

I borrowed Heroes a few weeks ago from one of my daughter’s friends. We marathoned through it in a few days. I got it for Christmas and plan on watching it at a more enjoyable pace. Partner is working through Season Two of Gilmore Girls.

right now i’m reliving my so called life and 90210. when i finish with that, i’ll get my ryan fix by revisiting the OC. why are all the good shows cancelled??

if the strike continues, i think i wanna try out six feet under and the tudors. i know, i’m the only person in the world who hasn’t seen six feet under.

I’ve been switching off between Buffy & Angel for a few months now, and am finally up to the end of Buffy (S7) and the beginning of the end of Angel (S4). And the new Futurama movie sent me back to watch old episodes, too.

I’ve always been a mild “House” fan, but I’ve never watched more than a dozen episode. Since the strike, I’ve blown through all four seasons, plus a little “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” on the side. Damn you, writer’s strike! My DVD collection is only so big!

  • Alli

I can’t believe I never got into 30 Rock last season – thanks to the writers strike I demolished the first season in one (very long) sitting. Liz Lemon for Prez!

  • Cassie

    The Wire!

  • Marty

I’m currently knee-deep in My So Called Life and Twin Peaks. Great shows, and both are missed terribly, so it’s great to have them back, or at least on DVD.

  • Coyote

Now that the price has come down, I’m picking up the Kids in the Hall Megaset. I hope that gets me through the strike!

  • Ceballos

The Wire: I blind bought Seasons 1-3 on Black Friday and Season 4 a week or two later. I’m in the middle of season 2 and desperately trying to make it as far as I can before the finals season starts Jan. 6.

I am a late bloomer to the 30 Rock phenomenon, and I recently watched the entire first season in a couple of days. It was the most addictive thing I have ever seen.

  • Jill

I’m another one who watched 30 Rock in one marathon sitting! Now I’m making my way through “The West Wing” season one. Sooooo good.

  • Shannon

I ran through the entirety of “Freaks and Geeks” in two days. LOVE IT!!

    WEEDS…god that show is brilliant…

  • Katie

Futurama!!!!! There’s nothing quite like the funniest show to ever get cancelled. Every episode is more hilarious than the last.

  • Saph

Firefly and My So-Called Life. Why oh why did they have to cancel them?!

  • Lisa

Lost season 1. I put it in when I’m going to bed and make it as far as I can, the next night I start up where I fell asleep the night before. Sometimes I’m awake longer than I wanted to be. Lost is the best. If season 2 put you off, suffer through it, cuz it’s all worth it.

  • X-Phile

Right now the husband and I are almost done with the complete X-Files – we finished Season 7 and started Season 8 yesterday. We’ve been watching it pretty much every day since the whole box set came out, 4 eps a day, give or take. I’m going blind and getting a huge badonkadonk butt, but I love it!

  • erin

The Wire and Deadwood. I just finished Season 4 of The Wire and can’t wait for Season 5!! I wish I had $300 to blow so I could buy all of the episodes on DVD and rewatch both shows over and over. Sadly Netflix has to suffice. I’m in Seth Bullock withdrawal. Darn you HBO!!!!!

  • Katie

I finally caved and bought the complete series of The West Wing. I’m up to season five and I love this show. My only wish is that more people in the younger generation knew this show existed because I want to use it in my classroom (I teach Political Science).

  • Vanessa

Currently, I’m obsessing over Reno 911’s first few seasons (brilliant commentary, some in character) and Project Runway even tho I saw these shows when they originally aired.
For stuff I didn’t catch the first time around, I’m watching Weeds and The Sopranos. Meanwhile, I have friends who watch shows ranging from Lost to The L Word to 24 on DVD. They wait until the season is released so they can watch all at once. What did we do without TV on DVD? Best thing to happen to the medium since HBO first brought unedited R-rated movies into my parent’s house 30 years ago.

  • Court

I’m just about to start season 3 of the new Doctor Who. I have blasted through the first two seasons…it’s super fun and very addictive.
