Happy 50th Birthday, Steve Buscemi!

In honor of this milestone, PopWatch celebrates one of Hollywood’s most eclectic résumés. What’s your favorite Buscemi moment? Since I came up with ZERO results when I YouTube’d the terms "Steve Buscemi" and "Armageddon," — unacceptable, people — I present you with this clip of the man getting his ass kicked by Don Johnson on Miami Vice. (Somehow fellow guest star Willie Nelson gives a more convincing performance.)

See Gary Susman’s choice clip after the jump.

Can’t tell you my favorite moment. My recall is not that great. But I almost always love him.. Fargo, Reservoir Dogs. Love Him!!!!!!

When I think of Steve Buscemi, my mind goes to the first film I remember seeing him in, the “funny looking” crook in Fargo. Great actor. :)

  • t-bone

i really enjoyed him in the wedding singer, especially when he’s out near that dumpster with adam sandler and that kid, completely wasted.

  • wymer

Him singing as the plane is crashing in Con Air.

  • peach

I love the guy and he’s one of my favorite actors but he’ll forever be Mr. Pink to me! Happy Birthday, Steve!

  • DalGal

Definitely Mr. Pink from Reservoir Dogs and seeing his foot sticking out the the wood chipper in Fargo. Happy Birthday Steve!

  • mark

The Big Lebowski, Reservoir Dogs and Fargo are my favorites with Buscemi.

  • Jill

I loved him in “Wedding Singer”. When he was toasting his brother…..

“I got f-in shot! I got f-in shot in the face!”
Steve is just a fantastic actor. But I am just curious to know if he’d look any different if he got braces?
Happy birthday Steve. Get a Go Phone. Ho,ho,ho.

  • Ep Sato

Agreed with all of the above. He was magnificent in Con Air, Resevoir Dogs, that cel phone commercial, Fargo, The Sopranos, Big Daddy, Billy Madison (where he gets an apology from Sandler, then erases Sandler’s name from his list of “people to kill”), Twenty Bucks, the Big Lebowsky, the Search for One Eye Jimmy (a very underrated but fun film).
To me he was at his best in Ghost World. As Seymour, Buscemi turned a basically unlikeable character and breathed him full of life, vulnerability and humor. He brought out the best in Thora Birch (what’s she been in since then?), and that movie helped to launch Scarlett Johansen’s career.
Here’s to hoping he makes a few hundred more movies in the next 50 years, and that he’ll do a few with John Waters ;)

Best roles (in movie’s I’ve watched) that no one’s mentioned yet; Chet in Barton Fink, Mr. Shhh in Things to do in Denver When You’re Dead (the best thing about that movie, even with Walken) & Tommy in Trees Lounge.
    Oh dear, sweet Donny
What would Lenin say to you?
    I am the walrus.

  • Martha

Ah, Steve…happy birthday. You are awesome. In addition to the great roles already mentioned, he’s done some excellent voiceover work as well…usually as oily rat-types, of course.

  • Ceballos

Steve is terrific, and just off the top of my head, I loved him in Wedding Singer, Fargo, Big Lebowski (constantly out of his element), The Sopranos (where he was heartbreaking) and livening up Con Air and Armageddon.
Still, EpSato is absolutely right…he was brilliant in Ghost World. Here’s one of my favorite clips of his usually reserved character hilariously lashing out (in a Ceballos-like fashion):

This guy is fantastic and he deserved an Oscar nom for this.

  • Jenny K.

Happy birthday, Steve! I’d have to pick the argument with Tito over the dream sequence from “Living in Oblivion.” That whole movie was brilliant.

  • Jaime

Happy birthday Steve! One of my favorite actors who was in two of my favorite movies: Reservoir Dogs and Fargo. And that commercial is SO cute!

  • Christina

Happy Birthday Steve! He’s amazing in everything, but he will always be, as Homer Simpson says, the guy who got put through the wood chipper in Fargo.

  • janice

Happy birthday Steve. A couple years ago Steve did some filming at the hospital i work at for Lonesome Jim. He was standing waiting for the elevator, and while I thought this guy sure looked like Steve Buscemi, it wasnt till later that I found out it really was, Steve. If I had only known! 2 feet away and I didnt know. oh my fav movie is Desperado. loved him in that one.

  • Elizabeth

I’m sure Don Johnson appreciates that you remember him.. Happy BDay Steve, you’re too fun!

Steve’s fantastic, can’t get enough of him! Wish I could have cuddled up with him like Thora did in Ghost World *giggle*

  • Mike Rylander

I love Steve Buscemi… Not in a creepy way, but in a “I admire his work” sort of way…
Speaking of which, I totally stumbled across an internet video that stars a Steve Buscemi look-alike & act-alike…

    It’s hilarious!!
