Who wants to bet I spent more money on groceries at Trader Joe’s last night–one that doesn’t stock alcohol, by the way–than the total budget for Blake Lewis’s "Break Anotha" video? The sad part is, I really dig this song, but clearly, the folks at Blake’s label have him pegged for the clearance bin by Valentine’s Day. Rated T, for tragique!

He looks like a Justin Timberlake clone. Too bad he’s not as cute or as talented as JT!
Uh.. was this a homage to early Michael Jackson? Or, are we in the generation that has completely given up on music videos since MTV and VH1 never broadcast them, other than for countdowns? Good luck Blake…
this looks like something i would see on “on the lot.”
I’m with Slezak here. I love the song, but that video was kind of awful.
First off, I have to say that i was very pleasantly surprised at how much I like the entire CD (especially, since i wasn’t a fan when he was on AI). I actually listened to it from begining to end several times with out FF’ing or skipping. I really like the sort of 80’s sinsibilities that are envoked. That being said, I think this videos matches well with the sound because it sort of looks like a cheesy 80’s video. So it works for me.
Lewis has talent, but this video does not say much. The camera man needs to stay far, far away from the Koolaide. I got dizzy looking at the video because the camera was in and out and the “Musik Ladden” acid bits were not neccessary. Is he like Justin? Well, I think that this style was what N’Sync wanted to do but Blake improved on it. However, I would like to point out the only reason Justin Timberlake is so amazing is because of Timberland. He added more Ketchup to the Whopper. And yes, the only cable channels to see videos are Fuse,VH1 Classic and MTV Hits. If you are in college,MTVU. Viacom needs to decide to either play more videos on VH1 and MTV or just get rid of them.
MTV doesn’t show them, VH1 doesn’t show them, most people don’t get Fuse. Why would you spend money on a video people are only going to see on the little 3×4 youtube screen? Yeah, it looks like crap, but if no one watches it…
It looks like an imitation IPOD commercial spliced with a bad after school special.
I made it to 0:27 before my retinas began to burn.
Hate the song. Hate the video. Blah
Wow. Very “my friends and I made this awesome video with Ethan’s dad’s digital camera and my Mac, and we’re going to put it on YouTube and get famous.” Also, not sure why, but I was getting a Fine Young Cannibals vibe for a minute there and I’m pretty sure that wasn’t a good thing.
(p.s. Have you tried the Trader Joe’s frozen gnocchi with gorgonzola sauce? Love that.)
wow it does look like it was very cheap to make lol
It’s amazing what you can do with your dad’s video camera and copy of Premiere Elements …
big fan of Blake on Idol, but at first listen to the CD thought, “eehhh…really? that’s it?” after a second listen though, i am digging it. and the video…yes, looks homemade, but why spend the cash when, as someone pointed out, it’s only being watched on youtube????
Yikes. I was a fan of Blake during AI but seemingly overnight he’s morphed into a mix between Jamiroquai and Snow. The video is just sad and looks a late night commercial for a dating service.
That video looks like one you can get made at an amusement park in my area – for just $39.95 you can rock out to your favorite song.
Actually, scratch that – those videos look a little bit better than this one did.
LOL ceej! But seriously, who choreographed this thing-my 7 year old son? I especially liked the clever “break” part with the fists thrusting downward to simulate breaking. Song itself is OK without video!
My 13 yr old daughter can make better videos on her Mac then this piece of crap.
it was bad granted but i have seen worse…..Gimme More anyone??????
This video looks like some student project posted on Youtube. The actors look like they were just grabbed off the street
If it looks this bad now, I’m frightened for what it’ll look like in 10 years.
Ok, that video is not even KINDA, it WAS cheaply made! But there is some shred of hope. Go to AOL Music and check out Blake’s AOL Sessions. He’s looking dapper, and honestly, his clip for “BREAK ANOTHA” is not nearly as shaky as this 3 minute mess. When the Billboard numbers are released Wed. I am sure Blake may debut higher than Jordin did (#10), but will prolly sell less discs, since she had the cushioned joy of debuting the week of Thanksgiving & Black Friday sales. I hope Blake’s “A.D.D.” doesn’t go way of Katharine McPhee’s debut. Both are great pop dsics, but sadly I don’t think anyone outside of Idol fanatics realized these were what POP discs are meant to sound like these days. Both dsics for me are right up there with other pop standouts discs this year from Maroon 5 & Rihanna. And NO, I’m not some Idol-izer. in fact, being the music geek I am, I don’t even watch idol religiously. But yeah, Blake’s next video needs to be MUCH better than this!
Kai-
It does kind of look like The Cheat from Homestar Runner made it on his iMac! LOL
I swear that if video directing pioneer Russle Mulcahy (“Hungry Like The Wolf”) saw this splatter painted video of Blake’s, he’d be laughing his a-s off.
Slezak, that’s TRA-JEEK
I stopped at 1 minute and 23 seconds. I literally was choking to death laughing.
I like Blake, I like the song and I even like the parts that just show Blake. The sequences with the extra people are not compelling and add nothing. Hope the next one is better.
Didn’t Justin Timberlake just do the Windows Media Player Visualization/Screensaver video with “LoveStoned”?
It’s obvious Blake’s record label has no intention of seeing him through a career with their company.
Hey, nothing to do with Blake, but Slezak…can SOMEONE at EW report on Led Zep reunion concert…? Come on!! Dying to hear about it!!!!!!!
