I saw Melinda in a Zaxby’s commercial. It made me sad.
Jordin Sparks is just plain boring. Yamin and Daughtry both have talent. Although neither “won” AI, talent wins out in the end. As far as the next Idol goes, I hope it’s not another parade of backup singers with decent voices who know how to entertain.
I don’t understand why ppl attack Melinda’s looks. true, she doesn’t have the cookie-cutter blond and thin look like Carrie, but sexiness comes from being confident with yourself at the end of the day. In the beginning of AI when Melinda would be wide-eyed and shoulders raised, she looked terribly insecure. But as she embraced her inner rocker, she was beautiful. Her peak was when she lifted that microphone stand, she owned that whole stage.
I LOVE MELINDA!
I would seriously buy anything she released.
Jordin and Blake? Not so much.
any updates on her? i thought she had a better voice than all of them, including melinda, and fun personality to boot.
Well, while we’re speculating….what happened to Jennifer Hudson’s CD which was supposed to be out first in March….then in the summer…and then the Fall…and now nothing at all. She was working with Jimmy Jam & Terry, so does anybody know what’s with that? Maybe they’re waiting for her movie making to be over with?
Aww..that’s too bad. Melinda and Blake were my favorites this season. I had a bad feeling that after Taylor had what TPTB consider to be disappointing sales, that poor Mindy Doo didn’t stand much of chance. Hopefully she’ll go the way of my last season’s fave Elliott!
I love me some Melinda Doolittle– truly the best voice ever to grace the show. It’s really sad she hasn’t had more publicity and recognition, because she deserves every bit she gets (and then some!).
Jordan and blake are like the models in America’s Next Top Model, good in the show, but not transferable to real world modeling or in this case music. I cannot wait till the Melinda release though… she is truly a gifted vocalist/artist.
ohhhh SNAP! I LOVE that neither Disneygirl nor wannabehipster are being skyrocketed to fame and fortune. Wish I could say the same for ubiquitous Carrie Underwood! But considering that Spinal Tap Jr. (a bunch of REALLY HORRENDOUS 12-yr-old metal poser wannabes) are still on The Next Great American Band while actual talented musicians have gotten the boot tells me all you need to know about Lythgoe & Co’s sell-out machine.
Jennifer Hudson, where are you? Where’s your album? Where are your movies? Melinda who?
All of them are fine singers, but I think America is suffering from Idol fatigue. I predict this season will be a disaster.
Ok, lets try and cover all the topics here as fast as I can type! I LIKE the Blake cd, but the rabid fans wishing death on EW Reviewer Chris Willman need to consider 1 very SMALL factor. Blake promised a diverse & dynamic cd hence the name A.D.D., but seriously, as much as I enjoy his Maroon 5-ish sound, the cd as a whole, is NOT diverse & is vocodered & beatboxed straight through! Where’s the heartfelt ballad? Anyone who has listened to it will completely agree with that statement. As for Jordin, her next single is the Chris Brown duet, “No Air” which should be a huge hit, with the two performing the track live at some point during the next season of Idol. J-Hud had to “restart” her cd over at some point earlier this year, & since she was filming the Sex & The City movie this summer, I’d imagine her debut single will FINALLY be out this Spring, so she can not only perform on Idol, but laucnh her cd around the time the Sex & The City movie opens Memorial Day 2008.
And j-Hud starting her disc over, should be a GOOD thing, considering how well received the last few Jimmy Jam & TGerry Lewis productions were. I know they’re “legends” in the music biz, but they are partially repsonible for the flat tracks from the past few Janet Jackson albums that have failed to sell. Their sound is dated.
Now, FINALLY, as far as Melinda is concerned, the imagine she portrayed on Idol, was that of a gospel singer, and lets be frank, those women, have BIG voices, but not so much towards BIG sales. Melinda reminds me VERY much of say Kelly Price who made a big splash in the late 90′s with R&B, but then ultimately shifted back to her true love, gospel roots, & Kelly not only hasn’t had much sales success, but not much notoriety any longer either. Thats not being cruel, its just gospel releases don’t get much press & promotion, so IF thats the direction melinda is headed, she had better hope & pray Slezak continues to be devoted to covering her every move!
Phil why do I equate “gospel” with overweight women (exc Yoland adams)….know what I mean?…every black woman who can’t make it in pop and who happens to be overweight, goes to gospel…next I expect Eve to go gospel – rap…sorry about that….
