…did you allow your new best-of set that dropped this week to take the same name as a mediocre J. Lo album from five years ago?!
And yes, before anyone accuses me of being a false fan, I know that Com’s disc is actually named after his thoroughly dope ’94 song "thisisme." But still, why add the "then" and make the title virtually indistinguishable from Jenny from the Block’s great Bennifer opus?
While we’re at it, did Common steal J. Lo’s hat from her CD cover for his own? (Jokes! I have no problem with Common’s hats. Or his music.)
Questions, questions. Can anyone answer ‘em?

man, that’s weird! well without a doubt, the suits must have told him he was using a recycled title. one released by a pretty big deal of an artist (in terms of fame). i bet common chose the title to mark his territory and make the title his. and the thing is once people begin debating why he did this, they will inevitably reach he point in the conversation where they have to all agree that common’s album is far superior to jenny’s and that he is the true artist. he probably thinks yeah i’ll catch some flack for this but i’ve got the cred she doesn’t and i’ll win this fight.
by the way, i remember watching a j.lo interview in which she says the title of the cd was ben’s idea. just sayin.
Common did star in SMOKIN’ ACES with Benn Affleck…I’m just sayin’….
This is kind of a silly post. If Common had guested J.lo or had J.lo remix all his songs, that would be a true disaster worthy of a popwatch article. A similar album name? Not so much.
Actually, J.Lo’s “This Is Me, Then” album is her best one. Even the ridiculous song she wrote about Ben Affleck was pretty good!
If you check it out on Amazon, this album isn’t even released by Common’s label. I’m pretty sure that it’s a rushed release to fulfill some sort of contract obligation, and Com had little to do with any of it. The track listing alone seems suspect.
shamrock, the tracklisting is NOT suspect or a rushed release, its Common’s old record label, before he was signed to Geffen/G.O.O.D. Music. Back when he started out as Common Sense and then later morphed into simply Common. Maybe you should get your facts straight & check something out other than Amazon before you post something foolish.
Actually, Shamrock is right. Common’s old record label is releasing this album to hopefully grab some of the Common’s new found popularity for the old records they own. Common has nothing to do with this release.
