A natural disaster strikes Wisteria Lane! Which 'Desperate Housewives' character is gonna die?

Dh_lHear that? It’s the sound of chimes. The chimes of doom. A twister is scheduled to hit Wisteria Lane this Sunday, in what ABC is touting as Desperate Housewives’ Best. Episode. Of. The. Year. (A euphemism for: Last. Episode. Due. To. The. Strike.) When storm clouds settle over the abnormally sunny suburbia, I can’t help but wonder if a major character will kick the bucket. Natural disaster doesn’t always spell character death, but Lynette’s Oscar-worthy shriek in last week’s preview wasn’t because her beloved pizzeria came tumbling down, I’d bet that much.

So when the dust settles and the gay neighbors’ lawn ornament ends up where it belongs (on an island with Jack, Kate, and Sawyer), who do you predict will be lying amidst the rubble? Could it be Tom Scavo (played by Doug Savant, pictured, left)? The entrepreneur has been mysteriously absent for much of this season, perhaps in his quest to care for other illegitimate children. Or create the perfect pizza pie. The guilt trip he laid on his cancer-ridden wife earlier this season left a bad taste in my mouth, but I hope he finds a storm cellar before the twister touch down. Lynette’s dealt with enough grief this season. Her cancer. Her mother. Those pesky possums. Could the cyclone be the answer to Gaby’s prayers, silencing Victor before she gets the chance to serve him shots of tequila and cyanide?  Or will the shocking twists have nothing to do with tornados? Might Carlos (Ricardo Chavira, right) die in a confrontation with Gaby’s betrothed, a violent axe ‘mayor’er? Anyone predicting a Mike Delfino drug-overdose? A fatherless baby boy Benjamin? A Susan miscarriage? For whom will the bell toll? (And hey, let’s keep any commentary to predictions only, not the insider scoop. Watching The Perfect Storm isn’t exactly easy when you know how it’s gonna end.)

They tend to knock off ancillary characters and I saw on some tv news/entertainment type show that it is two characters. So I would say the mayor, and the babysitter for Lynette.
Another choice: her mom, or one of the gay guys

All of them have story lines right now. As cruel as this may sound, since Lynette’s cancer scare is over Cherry might decide to add some more fuel to her miserable fire. The twins Parker and Porter will both die.

i read in the enquirer it’s victor and mrs. huber .. not mrs. mcclosky(lynette’s babysitter) i love how they tout how people are going to die then it’s 3rd tier characters … how bunk

I actually have no idea who’s going to die. As Stephanie T. said, they’re all involved in storylines, so it’s not easy to predict. And I love it. I LOVE that I don’t know what’s going to happen.
If I had to guess, I’d lean towards Tom. I mean, SOMETHING has to make Lynette scream in such a primal way as we’ve seen in the previews. Then again, maybe it’ll be the one daughter (not the illegitimate one) that only pops up about twice each season.
As for who I’d like it to be? Well, i said they all have storylines, but that’s not exactly true. Edie’s character needs to get a life. She’s got nothing going on other than trying to mettle in Carlos and Gabby’s affair. Not to be cruel, but if this is how they were going to use her this year, they should’ve left her hanging there in the season premiere. It also woulnd’t break my heart to see Mike gone (not gonna happen storyline wise) or Victor (could happen…his character’s gotta go eventually)

My money is on Mrs. McClusky. They show a short clip of Lynette trying to keep her from going outside. You can just barely see the edge of her shirt sleeve, but it’s her. It would accomplish killing off a slightly beloved and interesting character that no longer really has a storyline, as opposed to offing someone like Mike, Carlos or Tom – who probably all have sizeable fan bases.

  • Mandy

Hannah- isn’t Mrs. Huber the one who is already dead (killed by Paul?)?
My money is on McClusky too, which would be a real bummer.

  • hannah

oh maybe her name was mrs. huber … i forget her name but it’s the one old lady Edie was moaning to Dana Delaney (when she was running for town council) about her ripped screen door. And SORRY for the scoop, I didn’t read to the end where it said no spoilers …

When I read it off a Newsite…it sound like if tornado really hit the set…I was fooled but that a good thing?

  • NineDaves

kathryn joostyn, the actress who plays mrs. mccluskey, has been killed off so many shows in the past (scrubs, etc), that she marc cherry put something in her contract saying she wouldn’t be killed off. so she’s safe. my money is on susan’s unborn baby. i think i saw her fall down the stairs in the preview, a la crossroads, the britney spears movie.

My vote is for John, the gardener, to bite the dust. Can’t stand the actor, and the character is pretty useless for plot development at this point, but his previous story line makes him a big enough character that it wouldn’t seem as insignificant as killing off the mailman, or something. Or, if there’s some kind of opportunity for a cross-over episode, I’d appreciate the tornado taking out Ty Pennington over on Extreme Makeover. That would be some good tv.

  • Stephanie T.

Mrs. Huber?! Huber was murdered in season one and her whacky sister avenged her death by cutting off her finger, and faking her own murder.

  • Christa

If Nathan Fillion dies, I’ll never watch this show again. (Granted, they only let him have two lines per show. And he has a horrible wardrobe. But, dang, he’s pretty.)

  • Ceballos

One more thing. Even though it looks like we’re headed that way, it would be disappointing if Susan lost her baby from that fall she took down the stairs. Not so much because the character would lose a child, but because that’s pretty much exactly how Gabby lost her baby in Season 2.

  • Stephanie T.

Like I said Lynettes unearthly scream probably means that one or two of the characters are related to her (her mother, her kids (probably her kids),Tom, or her step-daughter Kayla who really does not have much of a part in the show anyway.

  • jason

lynette’s mother is gonna get it. mrs. mckluskey (sp?) won’t die because marc cherry promised he would never kill here again (he’s killed her twice in other shows), that’s not inside scoop, she said it on a talk show. but she may blow away.

  • GeeMoney

I wish that it would be Edie, but it’ll probably be a non-regular cast member, like one of the gays or Dana Delany or her daughter, Dylan.

  • Sven

If the world were fair, Edie (or whatever Nicolette Sheridan’s character’s name is) would die. While she is not the only reason I stopped watching it after the first season, she in the top two. She is a horrible actress, and the show would do well to be rid of her.

  • Lilac

Kill off Mike. He is so boring.Than give Nathan Fillion all his screen time.

  • jay

I hope it’s not Susan’s baby. They’ve done too many miscarriages this season (Tell Me You Love Me, Brothers and Sisters)

  • KingLouieXVIII

I’m thinking it’s Carlos. Ever since he split up with Gaby, his character has just been floating around. I’m pretty sure it will be a male character. But wouldn’t it be awesome if one of the main housewives died. That would a truly shocking, original, and creative twist. Alas, I don’t think the writers have the balls to go there.

  • NineDaves

i think the scream probably means that her house was just destroyed or something. i just don’t think it’s because someone is dead. don’t get tricked again! http://popwatch.ew.com/popwatch/2007/11/abc-sunday-prom.html

  • Jarett Wieselman

My vote is for Victor and third tier character. Just when Victor got interesting (threatening Gaby) too! Not that I want Susan to lose the baby because that would subject viewers to Teri Hatcher “acting” but I also don’t want to see her “mothering” in season four. Her scenes with Julie are excruciating enough!

  • H2

Am I the only one that is already fed up with hearing Lynette’s scream? If it isn’t at least two of her children then she should be fired for excessive over-acting (but then that should happen anyway).
My guess is that it will only be incidental characters who have served their time. Very unlikely to be a real shock, that just doesn’t happen these days – the departure of any lead character always gets announced in the press months before the event gets shown …
Anyway, I thought this was a two part story so I suspect that we won’t know until part 2 gets shown.

  • Jelana

I can’t imagine how any of Lynette’s kids could die — a child actually dying would destroy the comedic aspect to this show. I still think it’s McClusky + the mayor. Maybe one of Lynette’s kids gets terribly hurt, but ultimately recovers.

  • John boy

The grandma is going to get it.

  • John boy

The grandma is going to get it.

  • thaxton

One of the dead is Dana Delaney’s hot husband. Unfortunately…

  • SuzieC

Assuming Lynette’s scream is post death, I’d say it’s not Mrs. McClusky. I just saw a promo a few minutes ago and I think that’s her walking up behind Lynette while she screams.
I don’t even want to think about who’s gonna kick it. My predictions always end up wrong.

  • Silv

Personally, I’m so sick of the commercial with Lynette’s scream I’d rather it was her.

  • Snsetblaze

The lady with the screen door problem that everyone keeps calling Mrs. Huber is actually named Ida. Mrs. Huber was murdered by Paul Young. Any of the main men: Carlos, Tom, Mike and Orson, would be good choices because it opens up good storylines for the housewives. For example, Tom dying would open a whole new storyline for Lynnette: her grieving, dating again, dealing with 5 kids biologically (and maybe having to face one or more of Kayla’s grandparents who want her), probably her having to go back to work either in advertising where she made a good living or struggling with the restaurant. Edie would be another good choice as she really hasn’t been part of the season this year. Only when Marcia Cross was on maternity leave, did the writers give Edie a decent storyline.
