Today, on our day to give thanks, Terry Gilliam turns 67. Here are a few reasons to be thankful for this Python and director of films great (Brazil, with Jonathan Pryce, pictured) and not-so-great (The Brothers Grimm):
- Gilliam’s working on a new movie called The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus, starring Heath Ledger and Christopher Plummer. Here’s hoping that it’s more satisfying than the beautiful but pointless Tideland.
- No matter what he does in the future, Gilliam will still be guy who animated this:
- But I’m most thankful for Terry Gilliam because of Brazil, which will always be one of my favorite movies.
Take a moment away from turkey and football your quality time with family and friends to send Terry some Birthday wishes.

Tideland wasn’t beautiful but pointless, it was just plain pointless! I can’t believe I sat through an entire hour of that terrible child actor running amok through sets stolen from a Tim Burton film before ejecting the DVD. Here’s to hoping that Terry considers retirement on his birthday!
Better TG movie than the very good ‘Brazil’ is the great ‘Baron von Munchausen’ (sic?). Great tall tale their, plus, he introduced us to the young Uma. With TG as an ex-patriot (former citizen of the US) I will always question his leaving for the UK.
Happy birthday TG! You’re one of my all time favorite directors!
Anyway, thanks for mentioning BRAZIL. Its one of the best (and underrated) movies of all time. Jonathan Pryce will always remind me of his character in BRAZIL. Very fine performance too!
Baron Von Munchausen a great movie? Not really. It stands with the Bros. Grimm as being an Ok. film, but not his best. Time Bandits, 12 Monkeys and Brazil are his true gifts to the universe. Now he has to make Terry Pratchetts Disc World into a film. It would be hillarious! Happy birthday Terry!
Hey don’t hate on The Brothers Grimm. It’s a hot mess and I love it.
I did not hate it. It is just that I have seen a lot better from him.
Happy Birthday Mr. Gilliam! (And “Brazil” is pure genius!) Keep up the good work and don’t party too hard!
