Put Hasselhoff at the wheel of NBC's 'Knight Rider' remake!

Knightr_lGood news and bad news about NBC’s Knight Rider update. Good news is that David Hasselhoff is close to signing on to reprise his role as Michael Knight. Bad news is that the project’s protagonist is Mike Tracer (to be played by All My Children regular Justin Bruening), the son Knight never knew. Shame on you, producers! The Hoff is ageless! He deserves to be behind the wheel again, not cooling his heels in KITT’s backseat. He can handle this sort of thing in his sleep, while snoring a ditty that’ll go to No. 1 on the German pop chart. C’mon, PopWatchers, wouldn’t you like to see a Knight Rider reboot with more Hoff and less Hoffspring?

I can’t believe they’re rehashing something from the 80s again without figuring out why it was successful the first time. (Ah, the 80s – when cheese was preferred.) None of the guys from the 80s shows are so old that they can’t reprise their roles. It’s still not as heinous as Tom Selleck not getting to play Magnum, but really, do we need the Hoff eating cheeseburgers off KITTs hood every week?

There, there, KITT. There, there. Now, you’re going to hear a faint yet unmistakable zipping sound. Pay no attention to that.

    “THEEEIS IS THEEE MOMENT!
Uhm, Ok. Hasselhoff behind the wheel? How about Lindsay Lohan as his navigator? Think about it.
The Michael Knight we knew from the eighties is now a trying to get sober off key, cheeseburger game show judge with spungy hair. Besides, William J. Daniels aka: KITT was the cool one.

Justin is VERY hot and I would watch with only him. The other guy, forgive me all you fans, always gave off a skeevy vibe.

Susman, I give you flack when you are wrong and props when you are right. It’s a flack day today. Much as I love Hasselhoff (the singer more than the actor), we’ve seen the best remake results come from complete reboots. Had the producers of Battlestar Galactica chosen to use the same actors as Apollo and Starbuck, we would have lost out on a great series.
Better to have the original actors in different roles or as background characters (like the guy who was once Apollo playing that political backstabber on BSG) than in the hot seat.
Another example of this idea going awry: Imagine if Star Trek:TNG had kept all the original actors! Instead of Jean Luc Pimpard it would have been three more years of James T “overacting” Kirk before cancellation.

    EP:
You like his singing better than his acting? I did realize that there was a difference?

    Correction:
I did not know that there was a difference. Bah! I hate having a cold.

What’s he doing to KITT’s butt?!

Hoffspring?! Not a good one…GREAT one. Nice job, Gary.

I loved Knight Rider. I know I was not the only one who talked into their watch going “talk to me buddy.” I would watch at least one episode if Hasselhoff was the lead. Sadly, I would then realize (much like I did when I watched Dukes of Hazzard as an adult) that it really was not that great of a show. But if Selleck reprised Magnum? Bliss. I heart Tom Selleck.

I think they should steal an idea from Indiana Jones-Holy Grail edition and make Hoff the older, wiser rider with an old 1980s style Kit. They could ride to the rescue of Junior when he gets in trouble.

The Hoff? Bruening? What gives? I don’t think this show is going to survive without its star. And I think KITT decided to only play character roles in major motion pictures a few years back. Last time I saw him, he played a taxi alongside Queen Latifah and Gisele Bündchen. No KITT = no show = no chartbuster in Germany.

Bruening is a tool. The whole thing is kind of Hoff-putting, if you ask me.

I think it is better that Hoff is in the background. Much more nostalgic to have previous actors as guest stars or a parent. Smallville is an excellent example of this. They have included so many of the previous actors in the show and I think that is cool!
