Amid the now predictable parade of leggy babes and breathlessly small booties, the Spice Girls kicked off their long-awaited reunion at the annual Victoria Secret Fashion Show in Hollywood on Nov. 15 (the half-hour special will air Dec. 4 on CBS). Gone are the pleasantly curvy popstars who took the music world by storm in the late ’90s; the Spice Women are now lithe, elegant, and, well, a tad underwhelming.
Opening with their old single "Stop" and following up with the (badly titled) new tune "Headlines (Friendship Never Ends)," the ladies finished their set with a collective bearhug on the catwalk, where Seal and his bride Heidi Klum had just completed an unexpected, show-stealing duet of "Wedding Day." (Okay, so maybe Heidi’s crooning can’t rival Sporty’s, but damn does she look hot for having just had a kid).
Perhaps I’m being too hard on the ol’ girls; returning to the spotlight after a long dormant period is never easy, and Posh was saddled with the added (and incredibly difficult) task of actually smiling. Still, I don’t want a demure, glammed-up, and lip-synching version of the babes who gave us "Wannabe." I want a spectacle that’s low-brow, spontaneous, and a little bit naughty! Are you with me on this one? Or are you okay with a quieter, classier Spice Girls incarnation?

I have a feeling they’ll drop this once thy get on the road, and be back their old selves.
Heidi had her kid a year ago.
Down with lithe and elegant!
I hope they stay lithe and elegant but make a better vid for the new song. I was one of the few people who thought that “Forever” was their best album because it was more mature than their first two. They’re just too old to be doing the nicknames and silly gets ups, and so are most of their fans!
The best thing about this Spice Girls Reunion tour is that it’s so wrong that it’s right. They know they’re not young anymore. We know we shouldn’t want to see them together again in a worldwide tour. But it’s so camp that if they set it up right, it’ll be a spectacle to remember. I want to see Posh in her LBD. I want to see Baby in pig tails, Sporty doing carwheels and Scary being crazy. Ginger already has her body back so why shouldn’t she perform in the little Union Jack dress and vamp it up? I really want to see them sing live, however bad it might be, and go crazy!! I love that their doing this. “Headlines” should have been a “Wannabe” sorta single to bust these babes back into pop culture mainstream. The Vicky’s Secret thing is a nice little side of camp. I think VS should sell Spice Girl themed bras. So excellent. I can’t want to see them in concert!!
I liked them better when they were fun and crazy, but I guess after a few babies and a husband or two, most people tend to calm down, don’t you think? It’s a little refreshing, at the same time, to see that they have settled down.
It should be a little of both. Yes, they are too old now for the Cartoon Character getup of their early days. But on the other hand, there’s only one Posh Spice so there’s no reason to have 5 Poshes. They should just have fun with it and let their own “characters” still shine through but without the costumes.
