I have a problem with my DVR — namely, that it’s clogged with 11 episodes of ABC’s Men in Trees (five from this fall, and six from season 1). A sane person might wonder why I continue to give a coveted "series recording" slot to a show that clearly leaves me feeling ambivalent. I mean, there was that whole eight-month hiatus during which I could’ve made a dent in my backlog of this Anne Heche romantic comedy — a period that found me deleting unwatched episodes of The Starter Wife, Dr. Who, MI-5, Law & Order: SVU, Chuck, Reaper, Moonlight, and even my beloved Inside Racing. Which leads me to think there must be some compelling reason I can’t let go of Men in Trees. Could it come down to my fascination with the romantic subplot between Marin’s delightful editor Jane (Seana Kofoed) and superhot Plow Guy (Ty Olsson)? Is this something I should be working out with a therapist? Then again, who has the time with so much good TV to catch up on?
So make me feel better, PopWatchers: Are there shows you record out of habit, but rarely (or never) watch? And what about this Men in Trees? Should I stick with it, or do I need to find the courage to hit the "delete" button this weekend?

I have all the episodes of Chuck, Reaper, and Bionic Woman stored on my DVR. Need something to watch when everything goes into reruns!
We delete “Damages.” We watched three episodes but then the rest just sat there. I wanted to know what happened, but honestly couldn’t work up to it. How could you delete “Dr. Who” and “MI-5″ though? Tragedy!
Same for me with Bionic Woman and Pushing Daisies. They’re both not bad from what I’ve seen, I’m just about 4 or 5 episodes behind on each one…
i suffer from seperation anxhiety whenever i give the ax to a show that ive previously watched, but this season i have been bombarded with t.v. that i’m pretty backed up with all my shows… the ones though that are bout 4 episodes behind are my name is earl, smallville, curb your enthusiasm, and drawn together… previous ones were dancing with the stars and bionic woman. i decided to finally cut the cord on those 2 and i’m actually a little excited for when the strike makes the shows go on repeats so i can catch up…
I was just faced with this problem this morning and couldn’t decide what shows I needed to cut loose or just sit down and watch. I’ve been recording Kid Nation and Pushing Daises because they were so buzzworthy at the beginning of the season, however I have yet to watch either one I think its time to delete.
We TiVo’d the entire season of Rescue Me and then my husband decided he didn’t have time to watch them – deleted.
Also I have almost the entire series of Ken Burns’ The War to still watch. I think we have watched the first 2 episodes, but most of it is highly inappropriate for our 10 year old. This is a 10 year old that just sat throught the entire series of the Civil War and loved it, but when the first dead bodies started turning up in this one – he said count me out.
I record every episode of “Confessions of a Matchmaker,” but I hardly ever watch it. I really do enjoy it, and my husband’s from Buffalo, but I usually just forget that it’s there.
I usually DVR Lifetime movies, and they stay for about 6 months before I just give up and delete them. As for MIT, Mr. Slezak, give it a shot. It really is an endearing show, and with the strike still going strong, it may be the only show left with original eposiodes long after the other have gone into reruns!
I tape Beauty & the Geek each week, and I’ve been taping Reaper since it follows, but I’ve yet to actually watch anything past the first two episodes. I’ve just totally lost interest in it, but I keep thinking that maybe I’ll want to watch it eventually.
I have 5 episodes of DIRTY SEXY MONEY in stock. The writer’s strike has actually relieved my stress with keeping up with Letterman and The Daily Show. I think that in a few weeks when more shows are in reruns, I will catch up on DSM!
last week, i had every episode of brothers and sisters (from season 1 and this season) and dirty, sexy, money on my dvr. i finally had to live up to the fact that i’m never going to watch them. yet i love new york 2 and that shot of love show remain…
Private Practice, I don’t mind the show but I just have no real motivation to watch it unless I have nothing better to do
Oh my gosh, I had so many of the shows mentioned above. Damages, Dirty Sexy Money, The War. This is what happens when you “Tivo Surf” you end up with a bunch of crap you will never watch.
Recently deleted two seasons of Rome, episodes of The Nine, Dirty Sexy Money, K-Ville. Last season, I recorded the entire season of Friday Night Lights without watching a single episode before august…and finally loved it!
Men in Trees is absolutely worth keeping — give it a chance, and I think you’ll love it!
I TiVo Ellen every day and finally gave up on that. I just don’t have the time. My husband wants us to delete the backlogged Bionic Womans.
Give Men in Trees a continued shot….harmless, corny, fun. How can you not like Patrick?
I was already hording for December repeat season, and now I’m even worse. I’m not deleting ANYTHING until the writers strike is over and all my regularly scheduled shows return!
PS. Love the Men in Trees. It looks like Cash might be back!!
Don’t delete Men in Trees, you should watch it! What a great show – reminds me of a cross between Northern Exposure and Sex and the City. Give it a chance! As for me, I have half the season of Damages saved. I’d like to watch them, it’s just always the least-appealing choice on my list. Now they renewed it for 2 more seasons. SOMEONE must be watching that show.
You should be deleting Men In Trees. I can’t believe you deleted Chuck, Reaper, and Moonlight!! Search deep within this weekend and find the courage to delete MIT. You can do it… I believe in you.
Ah, Chuck. When I watch it I like it…but I just keep falling further and further behind. I guess with the strike, though, I might as well keep the recorded episodes.
I haven’t watched Private Practice, Boston Legal, or Chuck since their season premier, but I keep letting the episodes stack up. You never know when a long-lasting illness or freak snowstorm will hit. . . I’m sure I’ll be glad I have 30 hours of unwatched television when that happens.
I still have half of last seasons Nip/Tuck on my DVR along with this season so far. I don’t think I want to watch it, but I feel like I am unsure.
I also continue to tape ANTM and Reaper only to delete them afterwards to make room for new shows.
I tape Days of our Lives too every day. But I have them deleted if I have more than one episode in stock. That way I always have one to watch, but I’m not trying to totally keep up.
My turmoil is with Pushing Daises-I continue to hear how good/quirky the show is, but I just can’t bring myself to watch the episodes that I continue to record.
Cane. I started watching it but now I have like 3 episodes just sitting there that I can’t watch. I’m trying to support the show but it’s so awful. Without Henry or Isobel, that show would be garbage. Jimmy Smits is in like almost every scene and his storyline is the most boring. So is his brother Frank the crybaby. I also have 20 episodes of BBC’s Your Are What You Eat. I can’t erase those, I just have to spend a day sitting back watching it.
Oh gosh where to begin? Well let’s begin with older shows: Boston Legal and Unit. Basically every new show out there except Gossip Girl, and i just got caught up on Private Practice, and Pushing Daisies. I finally had to delete Cane, and Moonlight. I’m still hanging on to Dirty Sexy Money, Reaper, Chuck, Big shots… I keep waiting to find out if they are getting canceled or what?!?!
Reaper and Tell Me you Love Me. I gave up and deleted Tell Me You Love Me. I watched an episode of Reaper and didn’t enjoy it so I deleted all of them.
Stick with it! It’s a light-hearted show that can be VERY funny. It puts me in a good mood. and it feeds the romantic cuteness and chemistry that I’m NOT getting from Grey’s
I’m too in love with HD programming to keep anything on a back log for too long. Recording network shows in HD drastically reduces the amount of space on the DVR so I end up not keeping anything for more than a couple of weeks.
Love Men In Trees, one of the first I watch. Have all of Dirty Sexy Money recorded, can’t seem to find the time for it. I also keep all of the episodes of Chuck because I love it and keep trying to convince my husband to watch them.
I’ve got a huge backlog of ER, Cane, Big Shots, and K-Ville right now. I have a soft spot for ER since I’ve been watching it since it first aired in 1993, but I’m not interested enough to actually hit the play button. I have a feeling I won’t be getting around to watching the other three shows and I may as well just tell the DVR to give up on them. I also ended up deleting the entire 2nd half of last season’s 24 without watching it.
