'Friday Night Lights': A birthday, a burnt car, and a rowdy relative

This was a really intricate episode of Friday Night Lights — the producers set out to do so much, and, for the most part, succeeded. Read the full post.

LOVE LOVE LOVE this show. Best writing on TV. Riggins is so HOT!

  • Buckeye

Why’d they burn the car? They were in Tyra’s truck when they killed the guy!

NBC publicity staff: you are such fools… you are sitting on a pile of gold with FNL and you just don’t know what to do with it! why aren’t the cast members bigger stars??? i raced thru season 1 dvd to finally get caught up to season 2 (thank god for DVRs…) it is simply the best show and continues to amaze me…and to think i used to think OC was hot stuff. it pales in comparison. put on your thinking caps and figure out how to keep this show on the air…

“FNL” continues its winning streak! I am still so in love with this brilliant show. Keep it up, NBC!
And for the record, I loved the whirlwind girls soccer coach.

Please don’t tell me FNL is still in ratings hell…NOOOOOOOO! I love this show. My favorite line “You’re this brooding….whatever!” Taylor Kitsch is killing ‘em right now and Connie Brittion give that chick an Emmy you dumbass Emmy voters!!!

i think Santiago definitely needs a personality or Riggins needs to stop drinking; that new chearleader is sooo boring, and Matt needs a more interesting love interest than Julie; Don’t really like Tami’s sister, but at least she functioned to let Tami vent about her current frustrations; I want to see more coaches get in Eric’s face so he can earn that paycheck..simply because it’s funny.

Buckeye-Go back and watch again. They were in Landry’s car. Landry was in the back seat with the injured/dying guy while Tyra was driving the car.
The acting on this show is soooooo good. I absolutely LOVE IT!!!

Why don’t the coaches put Santiago on Defense? Duh!
Glad to see Rosie passed on the girl’s soccer coach role. And I doubt I’m the only one who noticed she is EXACTLY like Coach Taylor from the visor to the mannerisms.
I find myself dreading the end of each episode knowing it will be another week before the next one.

Soccer coach was too cartoonish. The whole “burn the evidence” thing with Landry and his dad really shows how the murder subplot has seemed so out of place the entire season. The team/show is so offense-focused that putting Santiago (who doesn’t have much in terms of depth) on defense would be an interesting twist. Makes sense given that all he does is just run and is not able to catch the ball. Tami’s sister should go, which is a shame ’cause I like Gilsig as an actress. She shouldn’t be saddled with such a thankless role. I think that if we were forced to endure all that crap about “the Swede” and Julie, this new girl should be in Matt’s life for a little while before the inevitable triumphant reunion with Julie.

I was soooo mad and couldn’t understand why Jason wouldn’t tell Coach that the reason Riggins was gone for a week was because he was, um, oh yeah, SAVING HIS LIFE!!!! The scene with Landry and his dad was exactly why this is the best show on TV. I also loved the scene in Tami’s office with Riggins and his brother. And Smash telling Riggins “I don’t like the way you’re flirting with my mama.”
So did anyone hear the rumor they might move this to ESPN. Apparently they want more original programming and some people think this show will fit there. They are saying it’s ONLY a rumor though.

I loved this episode. I had been growing concerned about the lack of Smash so far this season. Hope he gets his own subplot real soon.

  • Jen

I love this show!! The relationships are what make it so great. I think NBC needs to promote the show more.
