EW Health Watch: Baked! Cheetos are, like, totally tasty

Categories: Food and Drink

Cheetos_lIt occurred to me earlier this week, as I was enjoying yet another bag of Baked! Cheetos from an EW vending machine, that I apparently liked them. As the headline says: totally tasty. If you’re looking for a somewhat healthy TV snack, I’d recommend them. I also endorse Ben & Jerry’s Half Baked Low Fat Frozen Yogurt. Seriously yummy (and judging by how hard it is to find, more and more people are realizing this).
What are your favorite TV snacks? Tell me quick so that I can distract myself from thinking about this thing called "puppy chow" that I just read about on Evite’s food and drink blog: an "ooey, gooey mixture of melted chocolate and peanut butter coating Rice Chex and covered in powdered sugar." HELLO. I bet that’d go great with a s’more martini

Tho I’m addicted to cheese popcorn, I’m guessing this is about better choices. Orville Redenbacher apple-cinnamon mini-cakes – not rice cakes, popcorn cakes. Crunchy, lightly sweet, and lo-cal. Even my kids like them. There’s even tiny snack paks, w/icing drizzled on. Yum!

my love is popcorn. cheese popcorn is good. my homemade salsa (when the farmer’s market is in operation is stellar) I live in boston so we can only get really true fresh veggies and fruit from these farmers markets. i love a nice glass of wine (red. chianti) too. cheese is nice too.

ben and jerry’s has a new flavor out there – cinnemon bun. praise jebus that s*#% is good!

Oh man, puppy chow is sooo good!!! But I do have to say my favorite snack is chips and salsa. And I get the Multigrain Tostitos…they are really good.

  • Gringo

my favourite would have to be ben & jerry’s oatmeal cookie ice cream. orgasmic! of course, i have to deny myself of it altogether. too bad they don’t have it available as a low fat frozen yogurt option.

Haagen-Daas Cinnamon Dulce De Leche. It’s truly wonderful.

  • mel

multigrain tostitos are good, garden of eatin’s sesame blues are more delish!!

Häagen-Dazs Sticky Toffee Pudding ice cream is one of the best ice cream flavors I’ve ever had. I also enjoy Ben & Jerry’s Oatmeal Cookie, but that one is so hard to find where I live for some reason. I usually have to stock up when I see it in the stores because once it’s gone it’s gone for a long time. Godiva also makes a fantastic White Chocolate Raspberry ice cream that I treat myself to every once in a while. None of these are healthy eating though so I have to agree with one of the posters below…nothing beats the simple Tostitos and Salsa combo for TV viewing. And if you go with the multigrain, it’s much better for you. Same goes for multigrain Goldfish crackers! :) Oh and low fat Graham Crackers with natural peanut butter. Okay, seriously I need to stop before I make myself hungry. D’OH! Too late.

I discovered puppy chow a few months back on the back of my Chocolate Chex cereal box and it sure is tasty. I’m such a Chex mix addict these days, especially with their Turtle and Chocolate Peanut Butter versions. And they come in such handy little snack sizes now…

I bake chocolate chip cookies, freeze them, and then make them into chipwiches with Ben and Jerry’s AmeriCone Dream in the middle. The caramel oozes out and the cookies go from crunchy to soft and chewy all while you are eating. Delicious.

Puppy chow is sooooo good! If you just try it, you’ll never stop. You’ve been warned.

My healthier choice for a snack are the Skinny Cow low-fat ice cream sandwiches (the mint flavored ones are the best).

I love baked cheetos. Its taken a while for them to make it too my local supermarket, but they’re here now and I love it.

“Puppy chow” is known as “muddy buddies” in my house. And it is as good as it sounds.

    Puppy chow is a-MAY-zing.

My roommate and I go through about four boxes of Edy’s Fruit Popsicles a week. They. Are. Amazing. Also: low fat! I recommend the strawberry kind.

Smart Food which I absolutely love. Tostitos with melted cheddar and sour cream. Somewhat healthier if made with low-fat Triscuits in place of the Tostitos. Also my local grocer makes fresh cut potato chips fried in soy oil. They activate my yummy!

I’m jealous you have Baked Cheetos in your vending machine! I love them. Lately my TV viewing includes snacking on the no sugar added Klondike Bars. Sweet, chocalatey and almost guilt free.

  • JillS

    Toffee flavored Fiddle Faddle.

  • idigress

I am currently snacking on my new favorite treat. Crunchy Cheddar Jalapeno Cheetos! OMG – so dayum good!

  • LisaMama

I’ve made the “puppy chow” for my kids — ok, ok it’s for me too. It’s delicious, but not great for TV viewing because the powdered sugar gets all over the remote.

  • Kris

There’s no way you could reach adulthood in small-town Iowa without having eaten your body weight in puppy chow several times over. YUM!!

  • jill

Ben & Jerry’s Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough is my absolute favorite ice cream

  • katie

Goldfish crackers…the regular old cheddar kind in the little bag…it’s been my favorite for my entire life, and I can’t see a way that that will ever change!

Different states and regions have different types of snacks and beverages. In New England there is a soda called Moxy. It’s so good but New York does not carry it. One of my favorite treats is called “Muddy Bears”. These are milk chocolate covered gummi bears. I have only seen them at my local movie theater.

“Puppy Chow” is awesome. However, I don’t know why it honks me off so much, but I HATE the phrase “ooey gooey”. It sounds like the bottom of your shoe after taligating in a muddy field. All the smug ladies on the Food Network use it, especially Sandra Lee, whom I despise. Wow. I am so cranky today.

just read about puppy chow for humans..sounds awesome..throw some popcorn in there too. and i despise sandra dee almost as much as rachael ray. r.r. uses far too much “stock” garlic and onions. And I love garlic. And it would not be an episode of semi homemmade if that wanna be chef/olivia newton john wannabe did not put hard liquor, straight up booze in everything!

Mandi, Here’s a good & simple Puppy Chow recipe: http://www.cooks.com/rec/view/0,1747,133182-252193,00.html
It’s uh-maze-ing – a great party snack because people feast on it and it seems endless. Remember to use a paper bag, not plastic. Good luck! I’ll be using your Baked Cheetos suggestion.
