October Road, starring Bryan Greenberg (pictured) is back on ABC’s schedule next month. The second season premieres Thursday, Nov. 22 at 10 p.m., before the show heads to its new home, Mondays at 10 p.m., on Nov. 26. Personally, I’m torn: If I have to watch a sub-par yet somewhat addictive quarterlife crisis ensemble drama in that timeslot, I wish ABC had kept What About Brian. Although, that means Barry Watson wouldn’t have been free to do Samantha Who?, which just received an order for more scripts and notification that it’s heading to Mondays at 9 p.m. on Nov. 26. (Notes From the Underbelly will be sandwiched between the two.) Why can’t anything be simple?
Adding to my confusion: I just rewatched the season 1 finale of October Road, and for most of the episode, I wanted to shoot myself. Or, more accurately, whoever was writing stilted dialogue like Aubrey’s accusatory "Is there still a part of you that yearns to return to the glory days of Nick and Hannah?", and Owen’s lame "How can this be?" after learning that Nick knew about his wife’s affair and didn’t tell him. But then, right around the time that Eddie (Geoff Stults) told Janet (Rebecca Field) that he realized he was a "sad person" and she made him happy, something clicked. The abundance of badness became comforting, and my brain went, "Okay, they’re not asking anything of me here. At all. So, I’ll just sit this one out, and you can just sit back and relax. And we’ll talk about how good Stults looks in flannel later."
So, admit it: Are you looking forward to Road’s return? And if so, what can producers do to the show to make us not want to kill ourselves? Or them?

I agree with you – I would have preferred that “What about Brian” would have returned instead.
Well as the commercials aired last year for the new show I got more and more excited for some reason. Who knows why. Maybe it was that the then unreleased PINK song fit the commercial so perfectly it made it look more appealing than it really was. And I watched a few eps. but then totally forgot about it.
BRING BACK “WHAT ABOUT BRIAN”!! lol
I was a big fan actually and look forward to the continuing drama…it’s such a “pretty” show, though if you’re not watching it in HD you probably can’t appreciate it….as long as it always stays fall on the show, I’ll watch. Love the music too.
i’ll jump on the “okay i admit it i wish what about brian where back on too” train!
I can’t wait for October Road to start again. After it ended last season with a meager season finale, i couldn’t stop thinking about all the different characters. Physical Phil and the Pizza girl are soo cute
I had no idea that “What About Brian” is off the air. I was really looking forward to the new season. But I’m glad that Barry Watson is on “Samatha Who”, it was very funny. As for “October Road”, I lost interest last season but will at least watch the first episode.
Who cares if its good or bad, Bryan Greenberg is hot!
agree that What About Brain was a much better show. OR could be better if they got rid of the hermit character – lame and had got better writers. I also wish Janet was a little more attractive – I know she’s a really likeable person and Eddie is attracted to that but I would buy the story more if she was a little prettier – in other words, she’s not pretty enough to outweigh (pardon the pun) the fact that she’s chubby.
I wish it would keep the Thursday 10pm slot. I’m so sick of ER.
This show is so bad, but you’re right, it’s addictive. I laughed out loud at bad lines more than once per episode, but I think I might actually enjoy the cheesiness.
I kinda wish it was just canceled so I wouldn’t have the option to add it to my already full DVR schedule. *sigh*
My husband loves this show — for me, meh. The dialogue is not so good, but as you say, Mandi, it’s somewhat addictive. I’m sure we’ll be watching, although not passionately.
Notes from the Underbelly is coming back? I’m thinking ABC should just have the guys from Traveller show up to wreak havoc on the ridge. Best thing about Oct. Road is I can usually read a book while its on and do something productive. I get the feeling this show is Dawson’s Creek 10 years later.
My sister, aunt and mother all loved the show, so I’m sure they’ll be happy. I might tune back in, but are they going to keep trying to prolong the story that the kid really isn’t Nick’s? And is this “season” going to be longer than the 1st which was like what, 8 episodes?
And for that matter why throw in a drama at the 10Pm slot after two comedies? Why doesn’t ABC create a night of comedy like NBc’s thrusday block and throw NOTES FROM THE UNDERBELLY, new hit SAMANTHA WHO?, on the same night (either Monday or Tuesday) with CARPOOLERS and CAVEMEN (however much longer that sitcom lasts)?
I thought the show wasn’t coming back until February so I am ecstatic that it is due back sooner!! This show is so good and I looked forward to it every week when it was on. It’s just really powerful and heartfelt and the characters are so unique and interesting. Am so excited now and will have to add this to my already crowded TIVO list!!
Physical Phil and Pizza Girl should get their own show. =)
Put me down as a “yes” for being excited about this show coming back. It has a lot of heart and a fine ensemble of actors. The writing is not the best, but the emotions are palpable and that’s all I need from a nice piece of brain-candy like October Road.
It’s aggravating that ABC is showing favoritism towards October Road over the far superior Men in Trees. Look, I’m a huge Tom Berenger fan and I couldn’t stomach it-the writing was just too weak. I suppose ABC’s pushing October Road because they think it is more likely to get the younger demos they’re craving.
Yeah i dig it! I like the actors and it’s around my age so it works! Although, i would have preferred Brian too!
I’m glad Notes from the Underbelly is coming back. That’s all. Is that not the point? Well, that’s the only thing I care about in this post.
This show is kind of bland. Maybe it will pick up this season. I would have preferred What About Brian to come back though.
I’m just glad I’m not Shonna’s friend. (A little judgemental!)
I definitely would have much preferred that “What About Brian” returned, but since it didn’t, I’m glad “October Road” will be back. No, it isn’t the most challenging of shows and the writing can be stilted at times, but there are endearing characters and a lovely setting. It allows my brain to rest a bit while I’m being entertained before I go to sleep. That’s a good thing.
Hated What About Brian but for some inexplicable reason dug October Road. The dialogue is hilarious. It’s like pretentious freshmen drama majors were writing it thinking they were poetic. The depiction of academia makes me chortle. The foliage is pretty. I hear there might be less foliage this time, so I might reconsider my viewing.
I have been looking forward to this show coming back since the first season ended. My friend and I love, love, LOVE October Road!
What about Brian? was so much better than this crap, they got a raw deal
I agree with Bobbi. October Road isn’t going to win any Emmys, but it’s harmless and cute. Kind of like Eureka on SciFi. You don’t have to analyze the show in depth, like on Lost, but it’s also not insulting to your intelligence, like so many reality shows.
I hate the show, the dialogue is so painfully bad it physically hurts. But Bryan Greenberg is such a cutie I would watch him in Sister Act 3 if I had to. He’s just that yummy.
I can’t believe this show is coming back. But I should look on the bright side – it’s another excuse to turn the t.v. off and do something more productive with my time.
I was actually just thinking about how I missed it. Laura Pepron could yodel and make it look sexy.
Glad to see October Road back in the lineup. I’m been waiting 4 eva
