Trailer Blazer: 'Repo! The Genetic Opera'

Prepare yourself, readers, for a peek at the spectacle that’s unleashed when the genres of horror and musical meet—but with neither the stars nor the pedigree of Sweeney Todd!

Featuring Paul Sorvino, Paris Hilton, Sarah Brightman, and that British dude from Buffy and those old Taster’s Choice commercials (Anthony Head) Repo! currently lists the following imdb synopsis: "A worldwide epidemic encourages a biotech company to launch an organ-financing program similar in nature to a standard car loan. The repossession clause is a killer, however."

Behold the wonder, then: Singing! Slicing! Genetics! And a set that surely cost of tens of dollars to rent from a community-theatre production of Phantom of the Opera:

I am not sure what’s sadder.. that you feel it necessary to give Tony Head two credits so people know who he is (um, FYI, he’s not that obscure) or that this entry has a tag of “Paris Hilton.”

My god. How is it that something like this even gets made?

  • Emily

I don’t care how bad it looks, there’s no way I’m missing Tony Head singing on the big screen.

  • Cece

Ugh! That was the sickest thing I’ve ever seen. Gross!!!

  • Shaza

It looks freaken brilliant. Like Xanadu & The Apple with some vomit thrown in!

Before this trailer blazer was posted I trumpeted it in most of today’s other popwatch entries. I seriously believe it will be this year’s Wicker Man…so bad that it’s the greatest comedy ever.
It could make money because it’s by the Saw guy somehow. But, releasing it in April means it probably will floppity flop. Oh, and I think it’s wrong that it kind of reminds me of I Know Who Killed Me.

I’m hoping this film turns out to be the greatest cult classic since Rocky Horror. Seriously, I’m stoked – I’m sure the filmmakers are going for camp all the way, and Anthony Stewart Head looks wicked awesome. With luck we can get some midnight sing-alongs to go with it!

I won’t even pretend to lie. I’m totally seeing this shiz.

    Paris Hilton blows, man.

This looks like the worst movie in the history of the world. I know that’s getting to be a tough contest, but, this is terrible. I love Anthony Stewart Head, so I may have to fast forward through all the scenes he’s not in

    Where’s Paris Hilton?

  • Kelsey

Despite my better judgement (and Paris Hilton), I will be seeing this! I have never met a campy cult film I didn’t like.

  • To V.M.L

Paris Hilton is at the “one more hit…” part. She wore a wig and a prosthetic nose for the part so we would all take her “seariously” as an actress.

I saw the screening last night and i wish i would have just stayed home. This was by far the worst movie i have ever seen. How does anyone read this script and still want to give it a bidget? I guess the writers’ strike hit harder then i could have ever imagined.

Can’t wait to see torture, mutilation and evisceration up close and personal? I saw about as much of this movie as I could stand. Another cheap, slicer-dicer with poor staging, and sloppy film and sound editing. This disgusting and sensationalized “film adaptation” is literally a slap in the face to the original stage production. And who wants to pay $10 to see Hilton play herself? They can use all the phony PR they want to — – gross miscasting, and an even worse mistake in judgment.
