It speaks volume about how bad a series needs to be when the Australian actor who played Wolverine can’t get past one episode in his home country.
That’d be like a tv show with Benicio Del Toro getting cancelled after airing only one episode in Puerto Rico.
Jackman said it all he did it for fun eat that Sarah and Lizzy
Not me. I can’t get the kareoke version of “I’m Still Standing” sung very uncomfortably by the lead actor, out of my head. The show was awful.
It wasn’t that bad.
I agree EP. The premise was not that bad but it did not seem orginial. If the singing part was eliminated, the show might have succeeded.
the show would have been remotely interesting if the actors actually decided to do something with their roles – camp it up, give some over the top energy – anything! i mean, singing about battling for a small nevada town’s gambling hierarchy? if that doesn’t scream “take it so far over the top, ugly betty would be angry at a competitor”, what does?
I missed it! When was it?
Once I realized the premise behind Viva Laughlin was a drama involved in a casino, that decreased most of my interest right then and there. Once I heard about all the bad karaoke implemented in the show, I had to watch at least one episode just to witness the trainwreck (Sunday’s to be exact). And boy, was watching that travesty spectacular. The singing was so BAD and I can’t believe how silly some the dialogue sounded. One particular line hinted an oral sex joke which fell flat, making me think how that got past the writers’ circle before implementing it in the script. Then again, that’s how I feel about Viva Laughlin in general. How did such a turgid show receive a pilot episode?
What’s also funny are the ads to The Amazing Race popping up recently, ready to fill in Viva Laughlin’s spot two weeks after its cancellation. Just like Fox’s Nashville, it shows CBS had very little faith of this succeeding in the first place.
The singing killed the show. The first song I was able to get past, but the second “sympathy for the devil” was more than I could take. When the third song started – I clicked off the channel. If they had wanted those songs they could have just had them in the background and not have the song and dance routine. Otherwise I liked the show. It was the songs….
Excellent article; I enjoyed reading it.
