Okay, drum and bass in 2007? Really? Yes, really. Orlando’s AK1200 (cuz, yaknow, he’s like an AK-47 blasting up the Technics 1200s — boh!)is back with his first full-length mix CD since 2003’s At CloseRange. This time, he’s featuring 20 "undiscovered" artists — from aninternational pool of 300 or so who submitted tracks in response to an ad heposted on a DnB message board — that he believes best demonstrateprogression within the drum and bass genre. A lot of people declared drum and bass dead by the turn of the century. AK1200 scoured the globe lookingfor fresh blood that can prove them wrong.

Just ahead of the upcoming AmericanGangster film, starring Denzel Washington as New York heroin kingpin Frank Lucas, comesthe first season DVD of the VH1 series of the same name. The show,which launched its second season earlier this month, earned a solidfollowing last year withits in-depth looks at some of America’smost notorious black crime figures. Season 1 features notorious L.A. Crips gangster Stanley "Tookie" Williams, Leroy ”Nicky”Barnes, who was one of Lucas’ peers in New York’s 1970s heroin game, and 1980s cocaine kingpin "Freeway"Ricky Ross.

PBS: Season 4 premiere Oct. 28, 10 p.m.
The four-part fourth season of PBS’ series on contemporary art and artists kicks off Sunday night withfour artists whose work relates to the subject of romance. Featured artistsinclude Laurie Simmons, who attempts to portray love and romance throughphotographedscenes staged with puppets, ventriloquist dummies, and dancerscostumed as everyday objects. Also featured is sculptor Judy Pfaff, whose workis inspired by the deaths of close friends and family members. The three future episodes this season willfeature contemporary artists exploring the notions of protest, ecology, andparadox.

The Scream Awards honor the year’s best in horror,fantasy, sci-fi, and comics as voted by viewers. In addition to handing outtrophies for categories like "Ultimate Scream" and "MostMemorable Mutilation," the event (taped on Oct. 19 at the Greek Theatre inLos Angeles) will also feature performances by Alice Cooper (pictured),Rob Zombie, Slash, and Ozzy Osbourne, and appearances by Harrison Ford,Christian Bale, Jessica Biel, Seth Rogen, Tim Burton, Rosario Dawson, KeithRichards, Freddy Rodriguez, Robert Rodriguez, Eli Roth, and Quentin Tarantino.

It’ssort of a perfect storm this weekend when Sci FiSaturday ("The most dangerous night in television") meets thenetwork’s 13 Days of Halloween series with an original movie looselyinspired by the Sleepy Hollow legend. Despite being on basic cable,word is it’s kinda gory, andalso not half-bad, in a campy Saturday Night Horror Movie kind of way.Bonus:Richard Moll (yes, Bull from Night Court!)makes a special appearance as a bearded yokel.
