Confession: I’m still singing "Day Man," the original tune that Charlie and glam-rock fanatic Dennis (Charlie Day and Glenn Howerton, respectively) performed on the Oct. 11 episode of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. I can’t decide whether I prefer the scene of them singing it live at Paddy’s in wigs and codpieces, or the one of them writing the ditty in Charlie’s apartment (below).
This isn’t the only musical-themed obsession I’m currently experiencing courtesy of a TV show…
Over the weekend, while watching some Psych repeats saved on my DVR, I became obsessed withShawn and Gus’ rendition of a-ha’s "Take on Me," performed in the JulySeason 2 opener in which they went undercover to protect a SimonCowell-like judge (Tim Curry) on an American Idol-style talent show for duos. Watch the clip below.
So what are your favorite musical moments from scripted TV? Feel free to go old school, like Suzanne crashing “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” on Designing Women, or The Cosby Show lip-synch to Ray Charles’ "(Night Time is) The Right Time." (I can’t find those on YouTube… and it hurts me.)

The entire musical ep of Buffy, mainly because it was from that show
Ally McBeal with Peter MacNichol’s character using Barry White as his theme music.
Saved by the Bell and them singing Wild Thing before Zach crashes the car after a night of drinking.
I completly agree with Stephen the Buffy episode once more with feeling was great it was awsome and a hell of alot better than viva Lauglin (check out the Wolverine movie get a release date blog on the next page and you can read my argument with a bunch of people who thing Huge Jackman is the best singer on the last 100 years
When both Righteous Brothers sang to Kirstie Alley on “Cheers” on 2 separate occasions. Bill Medley did You Lost That Lovin’ Feeling and Bobby Hatfield (the other RB) did Unchained Melody.
Flight of the Conchords
I always got a kick out of the episode of Friends where Phoebe and Chandler sang Endless Love together after Chandler broke up with Janice.
Andy (Ed Helms) singing “Take a Chance on Me” to Angela (Angela Kinsey) on The Office. It may be recent, but it was a classic! I loved his a-capella friends on speaker phone: “What’d she say?!”
On Cheers, Rebecca tries to seduce Sam by singing “We’ve got tonight” by Bob Seger. Then she says ‘get ready for the best night of your life’ and passes out on top of him.
Also, on Knights of Prosperity when they decided Modern Day Tom Saywer was going to be their theme song.
I loved whenever the Cosby’s sang for their grandparent’s anniversary.
And on Ed when he did the video with the blow up guitar for Carol. And when Mike sang “Tonight, I celebrate my love to you” for a $10 bet.
Another chiming in for the Once again with Feeling episode of Buffy. The talent wasn’t even, but man, it was hilarious and fun to sing. And Giles and Tara were *really* excellent.
Any rendition of “Afternoon Delight” with a relative on “Arrested Development”
My favorite TV musical moment is from My Name Is Earl, in the episode “Made a Lady Think I Was God.” It’s Earl, Randy, and Joy crouched behind a bush singing “Convoy,” and it is absolutely hilarious.
Veronica Mars singing “One Way Or Another” at the karaoke cafe in the Clash of the Tritons ep of S1.
This doesn’t exactly qualify, but the mention of Arrested Development brought it to mind:
“Somewhere over the rainbow/there’s another rainbow.”
Also, Scrubs. In general, almost every episode involves some fun musical moment. I especially love Ted’s band.
Doobie Brothers sing “Black Water” on “What’s Happening” (the episode when Mr. Dunbar forced them to tape their concert and the tape recorder fell out of Rerun’s trench coat?
