Recently, I told you why I was sticking with Heroes, despite its sophomore slump (EW’s Gillian Flynn spanks the show with a C+ review in our latest issue). I haven’t changed my mind yet, but last week’sepisode left me feeling a little woeful. Raise your hand if (spoiler alert!) you saw the "Parkman’s dad is the nightmare-man" twist a mile away. Yet while I can deal with thislatest reveal being a little too easy and way too convenient, what’s with the worse-than-Sylarbaddie looking about as threatening as my high school drama teacher?
What I really want to see on Heroes this week are some loose ends getting tied up. It’s the fifth episode of the season already, and if you remember,it was this same time last year that Future Hiro appeared to Peter on the subway and declared, "Save thecheerleader, save the world." In other words, I think the show’s writers really need to find a single earth-saving mission to pull these disparate characters together.
But that’s just me.

I am holding on for Kristen Bell. I didn’t start off as a fan but after a 6 episode marathon I was hooked.
I’d say that, since we’re only 4 episodes into this season, it’s a tad too early to panic for the future of the show. After all, by episode 4 of season 1, Peter hadn’t even gotten his “Save The Cheerleader, Save The World” message yet. Me? I’m being patient.
In order to make it Must See, make the entire show about Kristen Bell. Oh you mean must see for everyone else? Get rid of the twins, bring HRG back to bad guy status, and you will be off to a good start.
I really don’t see the show in dire straits like all the critics do. I trhnk they should get Hiro out of Japan, but other than that, I’m fine.
I remember last year that everybody complained that Parkman wasn’t an integral part of the story at first. Now we find out he is a major piece, and people still complain. And those scenes with Peter using his powers in Ireland have been awesome.
I’m feeling the same way, but I was kind of in this place in the middle of last season as well and it came back around. I have hopes that Kristen Bell will help. If they misuse her talent and mere presence, then I’ll be worried.
You hit the nail on the head – they need a mission. The story lines presented so far – some just trying to hide, others on the run (new characters we don’t care about), Peter’s amnesia, are not compelling. As much as I like Kensei, Hiro needs to come back to the present. But I’m not sure what for.
Sylar needs to kill off the damn twins, stat. I cannot BEAR to see more of them running, out of breath, pausing, running, out of breath, pausing. Arrgh!
I hope the writers aren’t trying to put too much of their eggs in the Kristin Bell basket. I have no idea who she is, so if we’re pinning the success of the entire second season on some blonde chickie and Parkman’s normal-looking daddy, I might as well give up now.
I was excited for a few brief moments that Sylar was actually going to wrestle with his conscience and maybe try to do good after doing so much evil. But, no. Once a crazy psycho killer, always a crazy psycho killer. Not a very deep character, there. Very baser instincts.
I’m going to be patient as well. I remember reading that the writers had the whole second season plotted before the first ended, so I’m going to trust them and see where it all takes us.
I’m also very excited for Kristen Bell’s arrival. She’s the reason I’m now a Heroes viewer, actually. However… I don’t think S2 is broken, whatsoever. I wonder how much that perception has to do with the fact that I just finished watching S1 last week (and then promptly caught up on S2 via DVR). No waiting all summer and building it up in my mind, you know?
For those who don’t know who Kristin Bell is you need to run out right now and buy/rent the DVD’s of Veronica Mars – one of my favorite shows ever!
I agree that the season so far is underwhelming – no real suspense. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that it gerts better (and that they kill off those stupid twin characters – yikes).
I gave this topic some thought after last weeks episode – I was frustrated by the end of it I decided to think about why I was so irritated.
First, if they are going to introduce new “Heroes”, they need to find a way to make them heroes that we can actually care about. I liked the new hero in New Orleans who obtains skills just by watching them once, but I hate the twins – I don’t understand their powers and frankly I couldn’t care less about what happens to either of them. It’s pretty bad when I found myself rooting for Sylar to do away with both of them last episode.
Secondly, the show works so much better when the heroes are working together towards a common goal. This season our heroes are so dispersed through the world (and eras?) that it simply isn’t working for me. Get rid of the feudal Japan storyline – it would have been clever for one maybe two episodes, but it needs to end now – and find a reason for our heroes to work together.
Ok, let me start off that I am a dvoted HEROES fan & have been since its debut. I’m also a comic-book geek, & I don’t get pissed at some of the stories & powers the show has swiped from decades of X-men lore. But what I can NOT fathom or understand is all this ‘undying-I’ll-give-my-1st-born-child’ love & adoration for Kristin Bell being the 2nd season savior for a show she’s yet to do a damn thing on! PLEASE STOP THE INSANITY!!! Everyone who has complained about the already spiraling storylines & new characters are HYPOCRITES saying that they can’t wait for Kristin to start as Elle tonight! Personally, I hope she is a horrible character & that they give Sylar back his powers soon so he can off Elle & let us normal sane people get back to enjoying a show that I still LOVE without some character I’ve yet to be introduced to. I don’t hate Kristin, but at this point you’ve gotta see how any SANE fan of the show would start to see all this pre-hype getting to the point of craziness!
I’m willing to put up with the boring, semi-ugly boyfriend of Claire’s. I’m willing to see what else Hiro has to do in the past, even though they’ve played that story out. I’m even willing to put up with Nathan having nothing to do on the show because it means that he’ll be doing something big later on. And as for the Blunder Twins, I just blast through that (thank you Tivo!). What I won’t tolerate is Veronica Mars joining the cast. The moment I see her, I’m checking out and popping in a dvd from Netflix.
based on what i’ve been reading the last two weeks online (and on the preceeding comments), i’m far from the only person expecting kristen bell to make this season finally perk up and show some sizzle. if she can’t bring some excitement to this series, they might want to start figuring out a closing plan based on the poor ratings.
I agree that the Heroes need to come together. By now they should at least be working toward a common goal, yet several are just in their own irrelevant storylines (Claire, Hiro, Peter). Also, while I like the New Orleans hero, the twins’ storyline is not working for me, though it has picked up since they found Sylar. I saw the “twist” about Parkman’s dad coming, and I am getting tired of seeing he and Suresh bicker about Molly every week. So, to fix the show, get Hiro out of Japan, get rid of Claire’s boyfriend, bring Peter home, and get moving on the murder mystery story (that will hopefully expand as the season progresses).
