Amen, Slezak.
I’m probably gonna get trashed for saying this, but I actually like Two and a Half men. Sure, it’s stupid and lowbrow, but it makes me laugh and sometimes I like to watch TV just for fun and not have to really think about it and get really involved in it. For me, Two and a Half Men is mindless entertainment at its best. Besides, Charlie Sheen, Conchata (sp?) Farrell and Jon Cryer all have great comedic timing and chemistry. The kid’s not bad either.
So shoot me.
Without Angus T. Jones, the show is just not funny.
Dukes of Hazzard was a top rated show, too. At least you could attribute SOME of the popularity to Daisy Duke, but Charlie Sheen…really?
I have to admit that my husband and I laughed when we saw this promo on CBS…but we’re easy that way. I still laugh at that NFL commercial where Madden tells the guy to throw the gnome and he makes the other guy cut the head off his topiary.
I have friends and siblings (all married by the way) who enjoy this show. I do not know of any single folks who watch this embarrassment. Perhaps once you are married, this passes for entertainment?
Hey – I’m married and I cannot stand this show. It is not funny, it is so crude, and of course it is so sexist (but that is stating the obvious).
I’m married too. It’s irrelevant. The show’s just not funny. It’s completely juvenile. But it has an audience – people who like Rob Thomas and Spiderman 3 and James Patterson books. A sadly large audience.
What’s the deal with everybody trashing this show? I’m 15, I love sophisticated comedies such as The Producers (1960’s version), Thank You For Smoking, and Little Miss Sunshine. I also love some stupid movies (and occasionally shows). But I sure as hell can tell the difference. This show, besides being the only good sitcom on TV (and I don’t count The Office, 30 Rock and the rest because they don’t have a laugh track), it boasts an amazing comic cast. The two best on the show are obviously Conchata Ferrell and Angus T. Jones, but the supporting (and even starring cast) are great too. Why everyone hates this show or finds it stupid…well…I just don’t get it. (Sorry, I didn’t mean to rant for so long.)
Oh, and Tino, I like (or liked) neither of those three and I like this show. Stupid comparison.
I respectfully differ, Michael. It’s funny. Yes, it’s crude, stupid, sexist and mindless. It’s also funny and some days, that’s all that matters.
I probably watch it about once every two months, and I never find it funny. I keep coming back ’cause I figure if so many people like it, maybe it’ll grow on me. It doesn’t. For me, it’s not remotely funny.
I don’t understand why having or not having a laugh track matters at all. Last week, someone didn’t like How I Met Your Mother because it had a laugh track. Today, someone doesn’t watch The Office or 30Rock because they don’t. Funny is funny whether something tells you to laugh or not.
To me, Two and a Half Men is not funny at all.
Sorry, perhaps I should have written “married with children”. Although it is entirely possible not all married folks lose their sense of quality once they’re married!
I’m simply upset that Jon Cryer has a better body than I do. It’s like that T.E. Knight thing when you see his body and you’re like, okay, he’s GOT to be gay, no boy with a face like that has a body like THAT unless he worships at gay church. Time to go on the Christian Bale diet.
I tried to watch an epsiode of that show and I got through five minutes before I was searching ready to tear my own eyes out. How it made it to 100 episodes is beyond me.
The clothespins on his nipples are too much. Let’s just hope they don’t decide to introduce Charlie Sheen’s Prince Albert as a running joke. (disclaimer: I’ve never watched this show before.)
Amen. I feel this show has deteriorated into one long dirty and not so funny joke. Angus and Conchata are the stars. Charlie is a dirty, infected sleeze. Plese tone it down and get some more mature writers. Pee pee’s aren’t funny any more.
I’ve never watched this show, and I never will. I love me some Ducky, but the ick factor with Charlie Sheen is just too high.
Not that I really watch the show, but I can’t believe the creators are complaining about no praise from the critics. Have they actually ever sat down and compared their show to the shows that do get critical acclaim? They are not even in the same league. You would think being the top rated sitcom on TV would make them happy enough.
I actually don’t understand how anyone finds this show funny. I just don’t. I’ve tried watching it and after five minutes I’m compelled to clean my house, as a substitute for gouging my eyes out. It’s idiotic. I understand watching it once or twice a year, high and really late at night, but on a regular basis? I don’t get it.
This show may not be the funniest sitcom ever made but it’s not THAT bad. It does have it’s funny moments. It’s one of those shows where the supporting cast is funnier than the leading stars. (Conchata Farrell & Holland Taylor especially.)
I saw my first and last episode of this show just yesterday. It made me want to write a sitcom because it definitely doesn’t take much talent or effort to write the number 1 sitcom on TV. The jokes are so predictable you groan at them before they are even executed.
People obviously watch it though. I have to assume these people have never seen The Office or 30 Rock or (RIP) Arrested Development, or they have watched them for 5 minutes and dubbed them “weird.” Obviously those shows aren’t funny. There’s no laughing in the background! The studio audience HATES it!
who is watching this show?? its got its 100th episode coming up (according to all the tv ads)…Arrested Development was cancelled, but THIS is still on the air????? geez…
Actually, I like this show AND I like the Office and Arrested Development (though 30 Rock doesn’t do much for me). Do I think The Office and Arrested Development are eons better than Two and a Half Men could ever hope to be? Absolutely. But I still enjoy Two and a Half Men for what it is: mindless entertainment.
i used to watch this show, but I kinda fell out of it. I makre sure I DVR the office and 30 rock. but i have a more ‘dry’ sense of humor. I don’t want my humor dumbed down, i want smart humor. 2 1/2 is not smart humor.
Amen Slezak! Add this to my list of shows I choose *NOT* to watch because of the promos!
I freely admit I like all kinds of crap. But I hate this show.
This show has grown on me plus it has some of the dirtiest lines on tv. Not many shows have a kid in it and talk about anal play on men.
Perhaps I was misunderstood. I never said I didn’t like the Office or 30 Rock. I just don’t count it as a sitcom, rather as a comedy series. Sorry, it might be twisted logic, but that can be the way I think.
