'Idol' hands make the children work

Categories: American Idol

Sanjaya_lSo I’ve gottwo questions about this news report that the New York state Department of Labor fined theAmerican Idol tour for violating child-labor laws with regard to teenagecontestants Sanjaya Malakar (pictured) and Jordin Sparks. First, where’s the governmentprotection for all the innocent kids who suffered through Sanjaya’s performances? And second, seeing that all this falls under "child labor" laws, arethey implying that dood got paid for singing? Hell to the no (after the jump)!

Why don’t you leave this poor kid alone? The few tickets that they sold on the Idol tour were probably sold to little girls who were there to see him, anyway.

  • J

Dude, stop the hating. Sanjaya was the most entertaining part of this trainwreck of a season. I’d rather sit through 10 of his performances (which are at least FUN and tongue in cheek) than ONE of Jorbacca, er, Jordin Sparks.

  • jason

hey jordin had some good performances on the tour. it’s not all bad. the child-labor law thing is kinda funny though. i guess the government has nothing else to do.

  • Jenna

Okay, I was (am) a Sanjaya hater (disliker) but even I had to admit that on the tour, he did pretty good. Of course, he was practicing more and performing a limited number of songs, but overall, not bad.

  • mike

The problem was government paperwork. It’s not like the two of them were forced to sew Daughtry Sweatshirts.

  • London

Did you not get the memo? Sanjaya hate is *so* last season. Like Jenna, above, a lot of the people who didn’t like him on the show were impressed with him on tour. He actually won loads of new fans (at at least one show, people were leaving during Jorbacca’s set) and has been picking up awards and nominations like there’s no tomorrow.
You don’t like his voice? Fine. You don’t have any respect for the people who do? Juvenile.

  • Get a life

I agree with the posters here. Sanjaya is pure entertainment. I can’t even remember the names of the other idols from last season. Get over it.

  • Amber

Apparently everyone loves him? I’m with you Slezak…the kid sucks, and the night he took on this No Doubt song I died a little inside.

  • To London

You are not funny – get a life and leave Jordin alone.

  • Kelly

When will the Sanjaya hate end? I am so sick of you Entertainment Weekly who keeps on hating on the kid. Seriously he was American Idol 6, Without him the season would of been an even bigger flop. After 6 seasons people still actually believe this show is a singing competition? LOL The show is all about entertainment and fun and Sanjaya was the only person with an ounce of personality this season and I stopped watching after he was rigged out because they didn’t want him stealing the spotlight from that stupid ass train wreck of a show “Idol Gives Back”
I don’t epxect anything more from you guys who are in AI’s pocket and they wanna do anything to keep tearing this kid down. I wonder who will be the next victim of such patetic hatred from the media next year. Hopefully the next victim is as mature and strong like Sanjaya unlike You Michael Slezak who is probably twice Sanjaya’s age. Thanks for posting that nice picture of Sanjaya the true winner of AI not producers plant Jordin

Sam you are right. Sadly I went to an AI concert this summer and besides that Beatboxing idiot who everyone wants to praise for some reason Sanjaya had the second most applause, more than the choosen princess Jordin(Who by the way single SUCKS) and he was really good during the concert better than some Justin Timberlake bobblehead wannabe.
Can anybody remember any other performances from last week besides Sanjaya and ofcourse Blake buthering that Bon Jovi song?
    Sanjaya=True winner of AI

I think the reason this season tanked was b/c there was so much coverage in every media outlet. It was too much. Britney has nothing on season 6

  • Mo

You’re all being ridiculous. Just because you didn’t enjoy the season doesn’t mean it “tanked”. It was the most successful season so far! And, sure, Sanjaya may have been the most memorable part – just like William Hung was the most memorable part of . . . whatever season he was on. Trainwrecks are more memorable than actual quality performances. As for Jordin’s single “sucking”, well, she didn’t exactly write it, did she? The Idol’s first CD always sucks, because the craptastic music company that signs them has no idea how to make good music. She’ll get better when she gets away from those idiots.

  • to Mo

I doubt Underwood would agree with those last few statements

  • To whoever wrote ‘To London’

I didn’t have a go at Jorbacca and certainly don’t wish her ill. It’s documented that people left during her set at least once. Your definition of ‘getting a life’ clearly doesn’t involve getting the facts.

Sanjaya will be a name long remembered. Not only for his beauty, but for his guts.I would have crawled away and hid after some of Simon’s put-downs.He bravely took it,week after week.I love this guy from head to toe.

the reason they didnt have sellout summer concerts is most people didnt know about them. the advertising was pathetic.sanjaya was wonderful at the concert and everyone i went with was there to see sanjaya. Trust, we are not little girls, but men and women. we love sanjaya now after show and definitely after concert!.

  • barbara

the tickets that were sold for concert, were not just sold to young girls for Sanjaya,Sanjaya has an adult following that is bigger than the tweeners.there was not enough publicity for that concert,a lot of people were jealous of me who attended multiple times in different cities.Friends said what concert ???
