Admit it: The new Fergie video totally rules!

Categories: Music

>I know, Iknow. When it comes to Fergie, I’m totally like your crazy aunt who keeps insistingyou try that Master Cleanse Diet where all you eat for a week is maple syrup, lemon juice and cayenne pepper (and then presumably punch someone in the face). You just want me to shut up already.

And I will.Right after I implore you to watch Fergie’s new video for "Clumsy,"the fifth single off her stellar CD, The Dutchess. Not only is the song a littleslice of retro-pop heaven, but the accompanying clip is a must-see. Yeah, there’ssome jar(*MAC*)ring product placement, and perhaps a brief rip-off ofhomage to Carrie Bradshaw’s Sex and the City runway spill, but the pop-up book conceptis both inventive and amusing — and even manages to have fun with thebouncy-car video cliché. Plus, you’ve got to give the woman credit for spendingher time and money on a clip from a disc that got released back in September’06. You know most artists in her position would be content to add some cheapdigital effects to their old concert footage, then go get a massage orsomething. (And yeah, I kinda just called out Madge and Justin. Oh, snap!)

So whaddayasay, folks? Is "Clumsy" kinda awesome, or are you going to continueyour futile effort to resist the Fergie-Ferg love? Discuss!

Fergie will forever be known to me as the chick that ruined the Black Eyed Peas.

  • Ceballos

I gotta give Fergie Ferg credit…she’s still getting mileage out of songs that came out over a year ago from a solo album that I didn’t have high expectations for (and I suspect many other people didn’t).
Also, that Master Cleanse Diet sounds ALMOST as kooky as the Japanese Pornstar diet.

  • Phil

I LOVE Fergie, and eventhough this is her 5th single off THE DUTCHESS, I still think there are some more singles left on the album. I’d love to see “ALL THAT I GOT (THE MAKE-UP SONG)” be released as one more single off this great pop album. For all the Fergie haters still not sold on this talented artist, I’d dunno what to tell ya other than you can go buy Celine Dion’s new disc next month!

  • Phil

Oh and the Master Cleanse diet is also being touted by Nicole Schrzinger from PCD in her cover story from the new Blender magazine…ITS EVERYWHERE!

  • G

Yeah, it’s catchy and the video is fun. As obnoxious as Fergelicious was, I’ve really liked most of her other tracks…

  • Stephen

Thank God she released this song. It was the disc’s strongest.
Oh Phil, I’d also like to see “Pedestal” on there, and am mad Tyra stole your suggestion for her dumb ego, er, talk show.
Also, I was a skeptic to her cd, bought it, and was pleasantly surprsed. Very fun. Very fresh. The video stinks, it reminds me of iphone commercials, and I can’t stand product placement, (which I hera she’ll be doing for Candies on her next cd). But, THE VIDEO DOESN’T MATTER! Only if you watch TV at 4 in the morning

This alum is just loaded with singles. I personally think she has room for one more single with “Here I Come”. I love “Clumsy” and I think it’s her best video yet which is surprising since it’s her 5th single. It’s true, I hate it when artists get cheap in the videos for later singles. Very creative and original video.

The CW is using HERE I COME for their craptastic channel

  • Merrie

I actually think this is the best song on the album. However, I’m not crazy about the video. AND, the pop-up book idea was done better with way less money by a band called “Sh*tdisco.” You can watch it on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OXM5LGfpmrE
    It’s awesome!

  • Jonathan F.

Yeah that’s a pretty awesome video. Song isn’t that great, but the video is really cool.

  • Steve

I dont get Fergie, she comes off as a wannabe Gwen Stefani. I will admit she has had some catchy tunes but it’s just such a manufactured package – all style no substance. Oh and just to piss you F-E-R-G-I-E fans off I think she looks like an older drag queen in training….

  • jason

now that “big girls don’t cry” needs to be formally retired, i liked “clumsy” the first time i heard it over a year ago. the video may be cheesy, but it’s her fifth from the CD and they’ve all been different. she’s not the best singer or entertainer in history, but she’s pretty cool with me

  • jonathan

it reminds me of this great book my neice has called “The Pop-Up Book of Phobias” in which everypage has a different phobia pop out at you. My favorite is the one for the Fear of Needles, where a giang syringe comes off the pages towards you.
Don’t like the video and not a Fergie fan AT ALL.

  • Becca

    God, I hate Fergie.

  • skye

I hate you. I really really like the song, and the vid is way original. Dang! just when I thought I was done with fergie for good, you pull me back.

  • Alex

    she’s such a Gwenabee

  • Rose Tyler

A musical genius Fergie is not but her music is a hell of a lot of fun. It doesn’t matter how bad a of a mood I’m in, if I pop in The Dutchess I instantly feel better.

  • j

    Dont like it

  • Sally

She’s a talent, and if she stays clean, works hard, she could be at the top of the pop singers pile. I like her very much. Has a long career ahead.

  • NineDaves

can’t wait to see what the gossip girl a cappella club does with this song!

  • Joe C

If Fergie does nothing else, she will have made the pop music world a better place for coming up with the single of the year in 2006 with London Bridge. Your girl will always get a pass with me, Michael, for that song. Everyone now: HOW COME EVERY TIME YOU COME AROUND/MY LONDON BRIDGE WANNA GO DOWN???? Classic!

  • GingerCat

I don’t mind Fergie. At least she can sing. But seriously, can someone please explain to me why she misspelled “Duchess” in her album title? Was it intentional or not?

  • Nick

This song magically came on my iPod this morning when I was buying my Vanilla yogurt and V8 juice at the deli this morning. It made me so happy when I walked into the elevator (alone) I did a little Clumsy dance.

  • Jim

Love the video.. made me like the song even more!

  • Z-Dubs

    Enough with Fergie already.
Or just start up a Fergie-watch column discussing hack music, bad spelling and busted faces.

  • Red

I really don’t like Fergie, but Big Girls Don’t Cry is one of my guilty pleasure songs. This song, however, totally blows. Sorry

  • jennab

Guilty pleasure, indeed! I’ve loved every single off this record… to this day, nothing gets folks on the dance floor like Fergalicious. Cute new vid…Michael, she hardly paid for it…Mac & prominently featured cell phone did.

  • Jimmy

Fergie represents what is wrong with American society. We are stupid, face it. This song, along with the entire pop genre, is stupid. The lyrics are second grade at best, actually they would get an “F” even there for “improper mechanics”. Face it people, pop culture in America is really stupid, and continues to become even stupider.

  • Samsara

This song samples “The Girl Can’t Help It” – from a Jayne Mansfield movie of the same name. Check this out on youtube:
    http://youtube.com/watch?v=DDibrxYcY50
Fergie’s homage is also obvious in her dress and blonde wig when she’s singing with the band (in the video).
Nice shout out to Jayne Mansfield, though I would assume that most young people don’t know who she is.

  • peach

The cockroach of pop music returns! Just when you think she’s vanished, she comes back. I didn’t call her the herpe of pop music because that would be rude. I really don’t like her music and think that she’s a total 99 cent store version of Gwen Stefani but I gotta hand it to her- she’s taken a handful of talent and turned it into an empire. So bravo, Fergie!
