So by now, you’ve probably heard the news that Madonna is planning to end her 24-year relationship with Warner Bros. Records and sign a $120 million recording and touring deal with Live Nation, a concert-promotions company that will handle not only Madge’s record releases, but her touring and merchandising as well. I woke up this morning realizing I kinda had to mention it on PopWatch — I mean, it’s big news about one of the world’s biggest pop stars — but if I’m being completely honest, I can’t make myself care.
Okay, yeah, pundits are saying it’s another nail in the coffin of the record business as we know it, but given the labels’"go platinum or get dumped" approach to music in recent years, perhaps that was inevitable. And ultimately, Madonna will still be making records (and a whole lot of money); as a consumer, it doesn’t really matter to me what label gets slapped on the back of the CD packaging. In fact, after reading this Associated Press news account, the thing that’s stuck in my brain like popcorn in the tooth is the following phrase: "the 49-year-old pop singer." Madonna’s going to be 50 next year? How did that happen? Is this why I sometimes have a pain in my knee when I get out of bed?
That said, I’m hoping Madonna’s move to Live Nation will herald a return to her status as the world’s greatest video artist. Hey, she’s got to do something with all those millions. Why not make a clip as lush and riveting as her classic "Bad Girl" (which you can catch in its entirety, after the jump)?

nope
Madonna peaked at “Ray of Light”. I doubt she has three more albums left in her. She should have had some class and retired a long time ago.
One thing about Madonna: I am not a fan(except of her debut record and the ‘Erotica’CD) but she always stays ahead of the game. I bet this works out for her big time.
You know, I was just thinking to myself, ‘Gee, I wish Madonna would make even more money off of mediocre records!’
Are those implants?
I agree, Madge peaked at Ray of Light…
A ten year deal? Can you imagine what Madonna might be doing at 60?
no
YAaaawnnn …. hhmmm wake me up with something more fun! … back to bed!
Go Mo! Can’t wait to see what is next. Will she finally make a VIDEO ALBUM – ten really great songs with videos allready attached. That would be cool. I hope she gets back to having some fun in her music. 30 years and shes still more interesting than most current artists!
I think it is a joke that they are putting a spin on this making it sound like Madonna is getting the “biggest recording contract in history.” She is just combining a bunch of things that pop stars usually get paid separately for and I suspect that it is because her CD’s really don’t sell much any more and the record company probably didn’t offer her all that much to stay. Madonna has been mostly living off hype for a number of years now. I mean, “writing” children’s books and acting like British royalty, is she really believing that she is still all that relevant?
The real center of this story being of interest is that madonna is the LAST Superstar artist left on the Warner Music Group roster. her departure to Live Nation is relevant because WMG has nothing left to throw at her to stay. Their stock has been plummeting faster than the neck line on a dress worn by Pam Anderson! It doens’t matter if you care about Madonna or how much money she is making off the deal with Live Nation, the real story here that this is the death knoll for Warner Bros. Music. Screw “BAD GIRL” Michael you shoulda thrown the video link up there for “POWER OF GOODBYE”….
Yes Jalana, I believe they are. She is an amazing woman. Talentless and rich, you can’t beat that. And I believe she will be doing the same thing at sixty as some of the famous male artists have done: continue to put out music-only in her case, it is not worth the listen.
I love Madge! I can’t wait until her next CD comes out soon. But this one coming up will be her last. After that, Madge is going to be like those queens who are over 50 and still going to 18 and over clubs.
The funny thing is, I don’t think Madge has to release anything new with this new label it’ll all be compilations. First, a greatest hits, then a 25 year aniversery box, then a video/music collection of the last 10 years, then the best of the Pop Diva in the last 15 years then best of the Pop Diva in the last 10, blah blah blah.
Michael, I think the video for Deeper and Deeper is better!
Until I see unknow acts that are doing this and by that, I mean having an impact, then this will be big news…cause other wise, there just big establish stars just doing there own thing.
