Pony play, people!! Pony play! Could you ask for a case more ripe with comic possibilities? Well, neither could the show’s writers, because with Booth’s first line to Camille over the decomposing and footless body a young camper found in the woods ("Eyes filled with maggots and all you see is the boo boo on the forehead."), they were off to the races. (Sorry, couldn’t help it. Ah, who am I kidding? You know there’ll be more horseplay to come. Wow.) Is it me, or was everyone making with the funny much more than usual? Mr. Ed? My friend, Flicka? Camille clucking? Booth’s obvious discomfort around the fetishist in their costumes and his refusal to stop making jokes around them? It was like a lovely gift of a show.
One of the things I appreciated the most last night was that we’ve gotten back to showcasing Bones’abnormal behavior and how she just doesn’t get some normal human interactions. It started with that scene with Camille when Brennan cops to feeling competitive between bones and flesh and Camille just nods at her while giving her that Oh-yeah-I-forgot-how-odd-you-are look. I know some of you aren’t fans of Camille but I think that her presence is essential for providing a sort of normal perspective to the lab culture. Then there was Brennan’s forthright input with the dead guy’s wife in the interrogation room: "More likely there was a part of your husband who could never be satisfied by love alone." To which Booth, sputtered, "That’s one of those thingsā¦" What? That you just don’t say, maybe? That’s our Brennan.
I kept getting distracted by the mild-mannered owner of thatpony-play resort. I mostly know the actor who played him, MichaelCudlitz, from one of my favorite new shows from last year Standoff,in which he was a burly man’s man-chief of an FBI tactical unit. It wasa nice twist that his wife (Annie Oakley, gotta love it) was thedeceased’s, um, rider. But once there, it wasn’t that surprising thatshe was the killer, despite the butcher red herring.
It was nice to see Zack and Hodgins get back into their groove, jumping into another bizarre experiment, this time using canteloupe.Angela’s whole hypnosis angst annoyed the hell out of me. Maybe becauseI wanted her to stay the strong, cool one of the bunch and not get allflaky and angsty. But her waspy revelation should at least give us anew character to stir things up between her and Hodgins.
The discussion of sex and love between Booth and Brennan offered asmuch insight into both of them as it did into their own highly intimaterelationship. Loved how Booth got hot and bothered when Brennan saidthat she’d indulged in role playing. Every time I think they’ve hittheir stride with the collegial sexual tension, they kick it up a notch.
So, who can trot out their favorite line of the night. Will theAngela/Hodgins storyline be a galloping success? Any further thoughtson Hodgins’grooming this year? Did you really think I wouldn’t ridethese horse puns hard and put them away wet? Of course not.

I loved the episode! While I was reminded a bit of a CSI eposide I stumbled on accidentally a while ago (People dressed up in large stuffed animal type costumes, one was walking through a backyard after a car wreck and was mistaken for a real animal and shot) I think it was handled quite well. I am very glad to see Booth and Brennan interacting comfortably again and I love to see Brennan just talk without her social consciousness, like to the wife. Besides, watching David Boreanaz do anything can make my evening wonderful.
Love, love, love that we got another TV Watch for Bones! It was another great episode and the tension between Bones and Booth was so real that I felt like I was in the room with them.
Bones is such a great show I wish they’d give it a weekly tv watch.
I hope Angela and Hodgins do end up getting married I like then together. Wish Booth and Brennan would at least kiss all ready. They are both so hot apart they’d be really hot together
This is only the 2nd episode of “Bones” that I have ever seen (I watched the Season premiere for free on iTunes). I must say that I really enjoy it. Although I was a ginormous Buffy fan, Angel was only meh to me – so I was not sure how I would take to David Boreanaz in this role. I must say that he and Zooey Descshanel’s sis are both quite good. I am thinking that I will give it a Season Pass on the TiVo.
Have not yet watched last night’s show but so glad I dvr’d it. Started watching Bones when it started because of my enduring crush on David Boreanaz and have kept tuning in ever since. It may be Bones’show but for me it’s all about Booth and Angela.
I’ve loved this show since the series premiere and I am so happy we at least have a mini tv watch for it. This episode was hysterical. I loved Booth being the straight-laced FBI guy who was uncomfortable with role-playing and Bones being the brilliant scientist who understood the allure of role-playing…those two have such great chemistry for this show!
Another great episode! Glad you enjoyed it as much as I did. I liked how they brought Brennan back to being ‘out of touch’– not knowing the theme song to Mr. Ed!?!? I especially liked the end scene in the diner between B&B where Booth was describing the difference between ‘making love’and ‘crappy s-x’.
“Stop or I’ll kick you in the testicles!”
Great line that had me laughing.
Favorite line of the night– “STOP! or I’ll kick you in the testicles!!” I do miss Hodgens curly locks, but he’s stil a little cutie who I’d like to put in my pocket
For you Angel fans (or non-fans), David Boreanaz is really great in this role and you’ll forget all about Angel in a few episodes. This role just seems to suit him better. And his chemistry with Emily (Bones) is just perfect! When you see interviews of them together, the chemistry is there off screen as well. I know David has a gorgeous wife, but I might be a bit jealous if I was her!
Anyway, this episode was another good one. I loved Zac describing his military experience: “there’s a chance I learned how to be a man”. And I didn’t mind the Angela subplot. She’s always so cool and collected, it was good to see her out of her comfort zone. I think it shows how much the MARRIAGE to Hodgins means to her.
glad to know i’m not the only camille fan. her and booth have the hardest part playing the straigt men to the team of eccentric scientist. without them the squints would be a liilte too much
The show is back! The first two were a little off, probably because Bones and Brennan were, but this show was perfect. I love the blend of humor and science, and of course the “glue” of the show, Brennan and Booth’s chemistry. The end scene was adorable. Let’s be honest, the writers can’t put off the inevitable for too much longer, these two belong together.
I loved last night’s episode. It was so funny, even if the mistery wasn’t that hard to figure out. The Booth-Brennan action was so fun to watch, it was funny and at that last scene so sexy. I loved how Booth was ready to keep arguing and then realized she had said he was right and said, wait did I just win that argument?
This is def my favorite show on tv right now.
Since my favorite line (Stop or I’ll kick you in the testicles!) was taken by at least two of you, I’ll go with using “Mr. Ed is dead.” not once but twice in the episode! Shameless, in a wonderful, wonderful way.
Oh yes, and “I loved him like a young girl loves her first pony.” LOL!
Finally..back on track. Did anyone notice that the first two episodes had Booth acting a little goofy? Kind of like he didn’t know what he was doing? I think they got it back together last night. He is supposed to be a top notch agent. I like when they surprise us with things like himi being religious and when he knew about Aristotle.
Good stuff! This show keeps getting better.
