We could debate this back and forth until the cows come home, but 2 people immediately came to mind as either not being high enough on the list or omitted altogether. First, betty white should have been WAY higher than 56, like in the top 10. And second, I was absolutely STUNNED that the late great elizabeth montgomery was not even in the top 100!! It is sad that not only she died so young but that she has strangely been all but forgotten. Not only was she the smartest brightest thing of bewitched, but she was THE pioneer of women starring in television movies, and hers were actually GOOD. Far too many “recent” icons on this list (I know EW is obsessed with buffy, but come on!) I guess it was a ratings ploy – more people wld watch if they saw names they were familiar with.
But I am glad they put johnny above lucy.

Why wasn’t Jack Benny listed at all? He, in my opinion, had to have been the funniest comedians of all time on TV. Some of people listed will never have the longevity that Jack Benny has.

Even if you were NOT a ‘Lucy’ fan, one would be in major denial by not recognizing her boundless, uncomparable talent as being number ONE in all categories…but we should not forget Desi Arnaz either. Lucy certainly did not fail to give him credit, and he WAS integral to iconic tv history overall.

I can think of two that I really worship:
-Lucy! No matter what my mood is, her show always makes me happy. The definitive physical comedian.
-Jennifer Garner as Sydney Bristow in Alias. One of the strongest female characters in the history of television.

True icons: Johnny Carson, Dick Clark, Carol Burnett, and even tho I don’t care for her, I must acknowledge the talent that was Lucille Ball. They are head & shoulders above the rest. Afterwards – you can just fill in the blank with your faves.
