Get 'BSG' goodness, avoid 'Flash Gordon' crappiness

Captain_lIn advance of the two-hour Battlestar Galactica: Razor geeknip TV movie, the Sci-Fi Channel will air two-minute "flashback" clips every Friday night, from October 5 through November 16. Cool, right? Want more cool? They detail the adventures of William "Husker" Adama’s rookie Viper mission during the first Cylon War. I know.

Now, for the bad news: These flashbacks are wedged inside episodes of the monumentally crappy Flash Gordon. First they giveth, then they taketh away.

But wait, there’s a completely-free-of-charge happy ending: They’ll be up on Scifi.com right after Flash airs.

VERY MINI-TV-WATCH UPDATE: See what we thought of the first flashback after the jump.

So I caught the first one online (because, as previously intimated, I’m never watching Flash Gordon again). And, while not as good as theResistance webisodes, it wasn’t bad. Young "Billy" Adama (Nico Cortez)actually looks like he could mature into the Admiral we all know andlove to fear. The girl he’s in the sack with (Allyson Warnyca) looks a little too muchlike Starbuck, which might explain—albeit uncomfortably—his fascinationwith her. And we meet young Adama just before he toasts his first toaster. Promising…even if the acting is a little stiff. (Bonus for super-geeks like me: What might be the first appearance of the "What do you hear? nothing but the rain, sir" exchange that Adama and Starbuck shared just before he sent her to her "death.")

Fantastic! And I can’t wait to see Razor.

I hope those little ‘flashbacks’ will be added onto the eventual DVD release of “Razor”. I need another good reason to avoid that awful Flash Gordon. :)

I believe these “flashbacks” will be on the DVD seeing as they will not be in the movie, which is a very cool way to promote the movie.
I can’t stand Flash Bordon, I really tried-too awful! But within an hour we can see the Flashbacks on Scifi.com yahoo

I can’t wait to see Admiral Cain. Michelle Forbes was awesome in that role.

Not only does the “What do you hear,”/”Nothing but the rain” exchange between Adama and Starbuck take place right before her supposed “death,” it is also what they say to each other in the opening scene of the miniseries when Kara is jogging through the corridors. Then grab your gun and bring in the cat. Boom, boom, boom.

This only makes my BSG withdrawal that much more painful. Hurry up and start again, ya’ll!

NBC/ Universal (?) should totally do some BSG plugging in upcoming episodes of Chuck.
He’s a geek, right? Then he watches BSG. He and Sarah should go to a Razor frak-party on screen.

  • Joe

That’s a great idea Grayson. I think BSG was playing during the second episode of Bionic Woman in some random house. And seeing how that show is more connected to BSG it is more likely to have tie-ins.

  • TheOtherGrayson

thank you, Joe. I thought so too. Product placement is prevalent these days so you might as well have some fun with it. Arrested Development was great with the shameless, tongue-in-cheek placement. Although a lot of their products were of their own making. See: the Corballer, Bluth Frozen Bananas, etc.

  • Jager

Yes, that was a BSG episode playing on the TV of an abandoned house in the last episode of Bionic Woman… I pointed it out to someone online and they had to back up their DVR because they said I was wrong – now I’m just labeled “hyper-observant”.
I truly must agree that Flash Gordon is a piece of worthless trash, though I must admit I had to watch last week’s episode to see what had truly become of Sam J. Jones (the 1980 Flash Gordon, who played the other prisoner).
Lastly, whoever is in charge of programming/scheduling at SciFi desperately needs medication. I’m still trying to figure out what “ECW” (wrestling?) is doing on an allegedly SciFi channel…..

I can’t wait for “Razor”! No, I don’t watch Flash Gordon just to watch flashbacks either. Skiffy has cried wolf too many times for me to get excited about anything they promote (other than BSG, which I wish had gone to HBO instead). HBO-SciFi: Now THERE’s an idea I could get excited about!!
