Mad Men, Mad Men, Mad Men. This is an impressive show that I fear no one is watching… perhaps because it’s on a cable channel with no other TV shows. The writing is impeccable, and there’s not a single character that isn’t complicated and intriguing – this is especially true of the female characters. I am continually baffled by the writers’ ability to make me like and identify with these guys who are clearly jerks… and yet somehow, completely irresistible. Also, the attention paid to all the little details of what life was really like in early 1960s America is fascinating. Those of us who have learned about that time period primarily through other people’s nostalgia might be shocked to learn that people let their kids play with dry cleaning bags, had no qualms about having affairs, took cocktails with them on car rides, and smoked, everywhere, all the time, even while pregnant, cooking, or completing a physical exam on a patient. This show gets better every week.
Dexter!!!!
How I Met Your Mother!!!
Why are you not reporting these?
-The new season of How I Met Your Mother, how is this show not in the top 10 every week?
-Eat Pray Love, Probably one of the best books I have read in awhile
-The Golden Compass, which isn’t out yet but now that I have read the book it looks like it will be most likely to fill my Harry Potter void
1. Big Kev’s Geek Stuff. Killer PODCast for anything geek related.. comics, figures, movies, etc. Also featured on XM202. http://www.bigkevsgeekstuff.com
2. In His Likeness. Great web comic strip! http://www.inhislikeness.com
I’ve been rereading all of my Jeeves & Wooster novels by P.G. Wodehouse – ultimate stress relief. The TV series with Hugh Laurie and Stephen Fry is also well worth a Netflix rental.
The Daily Show with Jon Stewart. Really where can you find a show that gives you all the news you need while still making you laugh. How many other US news programs interviewed Bill Clinton, the President of Pakistan, and the President of Bolivia in the last year? You can call it partisan all you want but Jon Stewart gives everyone the opportunity to be heard on his show whether he agrees with them or not.
I can’t stop listening to Robin Sparkles’ “Let’s Go To The Mall.” Finally available for download on iTunes, it’s the perfect 80s (or 90s, in Canada) song that never was.
