Snap judgment: Alicia Keys' 'No One' video

To grab a little lyrical inspiration from the artist in question, no one, no one, no one is going to get too excited one way or the other about Alicia Keys’ conceptually murky new video for "No One." I mean, Keys is a lovely vision rocking four different outfits/hairstyles, and there’s nothing objectionable about any of ‘em — unless you have strong, negative feelings about the return of the Flashdance look. On the other hand, how come the quartet of Alicias are stuck inside a watch? (Or is it a clock?) What’s with the blatant product placement when the action jumps to a Sony-brand flat-screen TV? And how come Alicia in the Rain’s section of the timepiece turns into a joyous block party by video’s end, while the other three Alicia Models remain isolated? It’s almost as if, alone, Flashdance Alicia has cried, silent tears, full of pride. Sorry, that was lame, but I bet at least a third of you started humming "What a Feeling" the minute you saw her off-the-shoulder gray sweatshirt. Not that has anything to do with anything. So back on the subject, what do you think about the video for "No One"? Take your passion, and make it happen, in the comments section below.

Are you sure that’s not Irene Cara? If only she would remake ‘Out Here On My Own.’ The Flashdance look gives me the warm fuzzies

  • Vivi

It’s blah. Just like all her other videos with the exception of “If I Ain’t Got You” which actually told a real story behind such a beautiful song (which should’ve been in the top tier of Best Love Songs ever, EW!!!).

ok video, but love the song! it makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside

  • Amber

video was blah…and what did all the clocks have to do with it. that seemed out of place.

  • Elizabeth

Great song. Who watches videos anyway?

  • NineDaves

I think she’s supposed to be stuck inside one of those music box song thingys. And yes, that’s a technical term.

  • Broadway Baby

Video eh – song good – although I do hear a lot of bad AI auditions coming with this one….

  • Anna

I have no opinion one way or the other on the video but I love the song.

Alicia Keys is a legend in the making. Can’t wait for her CD next month! This is one talented artist…..As for the song, well, I’m not crazy about it, but I’m confident the CD will be great. And since MTV/VH1 never play videos except during insomniac hours, who really cares about the clip?

There is a line in the song refering to “the end of time”–maybe that has to do with the watches and clocks (I know–that’s a stretch). Also, agree with NineDaves that the grinding gears look more like they belong to a music box than a clock. The song is good enough that the video doesn’t have to be.

I agree with Joe C and Elizabeth: I’m starting to question the purpose of doing “Snap Judgments” on music videos since they don’t actually air anywhere.

It’s like a one-woman salute to the Spice Girls, where personality and mood is defined by costume.

I am a huge Alicia fan. I think she is stunning physically and musically. However, even though I love the song, i am disappointed in the video. It leaves a LOT to be desired. I am confused by the concept behind it. What is the plot to the video?

the minute i heard “fallin'”, i knew alicia was gonna be around forever. i love the song, just saw the video on vh1, and although it wasn’t groundbreaking, it was cool. it didn’t matter to me, because the song is great. another slam dunk.

I love this video! I can’t wait to watch it at 2 a.m. It’s gonna rock!
