Who's the weakest link on 'Heroes'?

Categories: Heroes, Television

Heroes_lLook, I’venever missed an episode of Heroes. It’s good escapist fun. But that doesn’t mean the show doesn’t have itsproblems. I’ve been mulling it over all week, and my nominees for worst performanceon the Heroes season premiere are…

• James Kyson Lee (Ando, pictured left): I’veseen more nuanced performances on Scooby-Doo (yeah, the animated series) thanhis cartoon/awful reaction shot to the assassination of Hiro’s father Kaito (GeorgeTakei).

• Sendhil Ramamurthy (Mohinder, center):As I’ve noted before, somebody’s Mo-hindering my enjoyment of Heroes. And whileRamamurthy was marginally less unconvincing on Monday than he was for most ofseason one, he still managed to get upstaged by a spoon. Okay, a gold spoon, but still…

• Adair Tishler(Molly, right) Yes, she’s a child actor, but I bet she makes more money than you andme put together. Which makes her fair game. So let’s not pretend herprecocious-precious performance isn’t grating as hell.

And the awardgoes to… well, I leave it up to you, Heroes fans. Declare the winner recipient in the comments section below. Or else tell me why I’m an idiot. Readers’ choice!

    Milo V

  • uh

did you forget the amazing overacting venezuelans?

  • Mike

I’d say pretty much everyone on the show, honestly, except maybe Greg Grunberg (Parkman). These aren’t future Tom Hankses we’re talking about here, although the unsubtle writing is more at fault than the ensemble.

  • Jer

I’ve said since the beginning, the ensemble’s acting is terrible at the best of times. That’s not why we watch. How do you pick out just one acting performance from that cast? Adrian Pasdar, Ali Larter, Milo V, Hayden’s new stalker… er… boyfriend. Once you get past Masi’s goofball and HRG/NB, maybe the worst performing cast out there. And still one of my favorite shows.

  • gabe

    Kill Mohinder now. Please.

  • Susan

I like them all. I don’t think any of them are dull.

  • Mike

“Dull” and “Bad Actor” are not the same. I don’t think anybody said the characters are dull. Mohinder gets my vote.

  • Ceballos

I’ve been a pretty consisten Sendhil Ramamurthy/Mohinder-basher since the show debuted (and he’s still consistently more effective than Lunesta)
…but (based on the premiere) I’m gonna go with Adair Tishler. I found her irritating (more irritating than your usual child actor) and I wish the writers wouldn’t go the easy “wise beyond his years kid is the real boss of the adult” route, as she pushed around Parkman. I liked her better when we only saw her for under five scenes last year…don’t think I’d enjoy her as much as a series regular.
Sure, James Kyson Lee is over the top, but I’ve ALWAYS enjoyed him with Hiro and think he’s a good straight man. I don’t get your critique of him. How exactly is someone supposed to react to seeing someone die?
All that being said, Mr. Muggles easily outacts this trio (and most of the cast) every week.

  • Jen

I was actually disappointed last season when Mohinder didn’t die. He’s pretty, but he has to go…

  • Becky

I like all the actors on heroes and haven’t found fault with their performances yet. Except maybe for Claire’s mom–I hate her when she’s with Mr. Muggles.

  • Guy

hey, UH, they’re not Venezuelans, they’re Honduran… and I know that the actress is Dominican… so… take it back, please.
As far as the terrible acting goes… Milo V and Mohinder take the cake on every episode. It feels like they’re in a different show–like DOOL, or something…

  • AJH

Heroes weakest link is its writing and overall weak acting. And it hasn’t really done special effects well either.

  • Jon

I think Hiro’s dad was the worst actor. Good thing they killed him…

  • Tiffany

Mohinder is pretty, so he gets to stay. I’m with you on the Molly character. Too earnest for her own good. Was the kid playing Claire’s younger brother the same as last season? Maybe he just got a haircut.

Love your posts Slezak, but could you please put the spoilers under a warning and or a cut?

  • miri

It’s hard to separate the character from the actor, but Masi Oka/Hiro drives me batty. His performance is like watching my four year old nephew shouting and running through a playground.

  • Joel

It’s Mohinder. Not only is he poorly-acted, he’s poorly written.

  • Tiffany

Go away, Molly! And take your boogeyman bad dreams with you.

  • Anonymous

Sendhil Ramamurthy would be out-acted by any random person pulled off the street- he’s that bad. He wasn’t the worst on the premiere, though. That was Adair Tishler. WHY was she onscreen so much?!?!?!?!

  • Drew

Let the virus strike the young ones. Micah (Noah Gray-Cabey) and Molly (Adair Tishler) have pretty much deterred me from having kids for a good ten years.

  • LR

Why do you always have something negative to say about the actors on Heroes? We get it, you don’t like some of the acting you’ve said it before but your getting annoying. If you are going to complain more about the show instead of saying good things then don’t watch it. Why not write about who you did like in the premiere instead of being negative.

  • Andy

The guy who plays mohinder, wasn’t he an extra on the first season of grey’s anatomy? I honestly wouldn’t care if he was killed off

  • Devon

I actually haven’t had a problem with the acting per say, the character themselves I might not enjoy so much (Nikki & D.L) but the acting I find okay. And I really liked Molly’s performance, it kinda surprised me.

  • Kris

My vote goes to Mohinder. I said, out loud, a couple of times during the first episode, “why couldn’t Sylar have killed you?????”

  • Richard M.

I become radioactive and explode whenever “Mohinder” does a voice over.

  • noreen

Well, I love Mohinder. He was incredibly boring last year until “Run,” but I think that was more the fault of the storyline. Once he hooked up with Sylar, his character became 100 times better. I’m looking forward to his alliance with HRG. For me, I really wasn’t a huge fan of Tawny Cypress’ Simone and the Saunders/Hawkins family causes me to zone out.

  • Jenn67

I do not like when they make children wise beyond their years. I don’t like having or watching adult conversations with children. And I think they’ve done something with her teeth. I do not know a single child in her age range that has perfectly straight teeth with none missing. It’s freaky weird.

  • Alex

I think Mohinder and Molly are awesome, both in season one and two, so I definitley would not put them on the list. So If I had to choose anybody, it would HAVE to be Ando.

  • Sheindie

    I love Ando and Hiro
    I love Mo and Molly
    Simone was a waste
..and you COULD’VE asked: who were your faves in the premiere..Ya know, it’s better to be a positive person.

  • Henry

Funny ’cause for most of the first season, I really thought either Niki, Issac, or Simone was the weak link of Heroes. Two of the three are confirmed as gone so you can guess who I think is the weakest link. But if I were to look at the choices given here, I’d pick Ando because Hiro is stuck in the 17th century and they just killed off Kaito. Unless they send him to find Kaito’s killer, there’s no use for him.
