Snap judgment: Justin Timberlake and Beyoncé's new duet

Jt_lEven though Idon’t feel it myself, I kinda, sorta understand the Internet message-boardvitriol that’s frequently directed at both Justin Timberlake and Beyoncé. Afterall, in an age of fallible young celebrities, JT and Miss Knowles never seem tomake a misstep — churning out hit after hit after hit, looking unfeasiblyattractive pretty much all the time, and conducting their personal lives inrelatively low-key, un-nauseating fashion. When are they gonna mess up already?

Well, haters, I’m sorry to tell you that "Until the End of Time," pluckedfrom Justin’s FutureSex/LoveSounds disc and remixed into a duet featuringBeyoncé, sounds like another smash. The original flavor was already a treat —a stripped-down slow jam with a gorgeously simple melody — but Beyoncé bringsunexpected fire to the track. I mean, seriously, she leaves grill marks on"Until the End of Time"; don’t be surprised if you start craving itfor breakfast, lunch, and dinner. But don’t take my word for it; listen to"Until the End of Time" for yourself, after the jump, and let us knowif, ba-da da-da-da…you’re lovin’ it.

Oh God…they both look so bad in that picture…

I like this version much better. The original put me to sleep. Very dangerous when it’s on the radio and you’re driving.

  • Sharlin

    WHY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Gringo

not my cup of tea, but it’ll be a hit just cause of who it is.
*not saying i don’t like JT or Beyonce, just not lovin’ this track

  • GOB

    not impressed.

  • Joe C

I’m not a fan of either one, but Justin in particular can’t miss right now, so I’m sure it’ll be a hit.

  • Larry

I go through cycles with my Beyonce-love and though I will never buy another JT cd (not after his cowardly ways with Janet) I usually don’t turn off his music on the radio, but to me this is as generic as it comes for people who have genuine talent whether it’s marketing talent or artistic talent. Yawn.

  • J

Just had to spoil a great thing didn’t you?! It was perfect on its own and B’s voice, in my opinion, does not suit the feel of this song.

  • pitchmeister

Least favorite song on the entire CD -total prince rip-off – and even worse now with Beyonce.

  • Jasmine

    BOOOOOOOORRRRINGG…..

HATERS!!! I LOVE JT’s orginal version and I LOVE this version, too. I love the song for it’s simplicity. It doesn’t need a whole lot of extra prodution and powerhouse vocals to make it work. The lyrics do a fine job on their own. Beyonce added a nice touch of feminity to the song. And I’m proud of her restraint on the song. She has a tendency to oversing. The song is the bomb no matter who sings it because the lyrics and music are perfect. JT and Beyonce just gave it that little something extra. So stop hating.

I guess what my niece says is true – I have so aged out of the target demographic. When I first heard the original, I was immediately taken back to my high school days (1988-1992). It reminded me of Jodeci, Ginuwine and all of the generic R&B I was so crazy about then. The remix is just derivative and makes me think of homecoming dances in the gym. That said, my niece and her friends (15yos) love it so good on JT and Beyonce for nailing the market. Ain’t mad at ‘em.

  • Theo

There’s nothing special about this song at all; Slezak is mental. It’s a Prince rip-off by two people who don’t compare 2 him.

  • Simon

It is nice, nothing groundbreaking but sweet and melodic.

  • Geoff

When will this be released commercially or on iTunes? I like it.

  • jason

it’s ok. i’m a jt and b fan, but this is my least fave track on “FS/LS”. the remix adds a little something new. not a horrible song, just not my cup. if you wanna hear a great justin song check out his duet with reba on her duets CD. now, THAT is a great song.

  • Ellipsian

I agree completely, Jason. I like both artists a lot, never liked this song (in fact the whole last quarter or so of “FS/LS” disappoints), and the remix adds a li’l something new. Not my cup either.
I haven’t heard the Reba duet yet, but I’ll listen for it.

  • h3ff

Sounds like D*** in a Box – the Unwrapped Remix

  • CC

I loved the original version, but the remix with Beyonce is really good too. Seriously, it makes me want to get all romantical or something.

  • Matt

Looks like it could be good. Let’s face it, anything that has Justin Timberlake and Beyonce slapped on it is going to be good and played on every radio station. You can find out more celebrity gossip by tuning in to Celebrity Expose on My Network TV Mondays…here’s a clip to the show…

I actually kind of hate Beyonce on this track. Not because she sounds bad, she doesn’t. But I’ve been a fan of the original since Justin Timberlake performed it at his club show last year. I listen to it almost everyday. It’s such a brilliant ballad, I hate that she’s getting attached herself to a song that was beautiful and soulful all on its own.

  • Phil

Its no surprise that Beyonce & Justin recorded this duet. They needed a BIG finish to a stellar year for both. Besides, If this becomes the smash everyone already knos its going to be, it’ll cap off a banner year for both, and will more than likely create a perfect center-piece for them to perform at the Grammy Awards in Feb. With the MTV VMAs already passed, its the only show that would allow this one off live performance of this track. The track should also help Justin reach the top of the Urban & Hip-Hop chart on the Billboard charts. “Lovestoned” is still climbing the Hot 100 and has been stuck in the Top 20, but this new remix will be the perfect pop follow-up once it goes to #1 on the Urban charts. You can’t stop this guy! he’s not only a genius, but he’s also business savy as well. I’m only wondering will his record label try for a 7th single after “Until The End of Time” fades? His album is STILL selling a year later, props to him and Fergie as well for pulling that off!

  • Anonymous

I like it! Very price-ish, but then, so is half of Justin’s album.

  • t-fal

I’m not feeling it, but I’m with “Having a ’90s Flashback”, i”m not the target market. *Sigh* it’s sad that at 28 I feel too old for most of the music on the radio. I just bought Jill Scott’s cd – it is banging!

  • stephen to phil

Obviously you are someone in the music business, so can you explain to me why some artists release numerous singles at a time? JT and B have done it recenly, she with a whole bunch from B’Day, and him with “Summer Love” “Lovestoned” and now this song. Both released them before previous songs could top the charts. Anyway, I knew they would collaborate some day. Both had one of last year’s biggest selling albums. It was only a matter of time.

  • Phil

Stephen, I tried explaining this to you a few weeks ago when I was going on & on about the JT concert on HBO. yes, BDAY was a big seller for Beyonce last year, I’m not denying that, but after the tepid response at pop radio to both “DEJA VU” & “RING THE ALARM”, her record label was a tad bit worried, esp. if you remember that a year ago, both the JT & Fergie albums were out & had huge radio hits working for them, whereas Beyonce was ONLY getting airplay on Urban & hip-hop stations, due to the predominant urban leaning singles. Until “Irreplaceable” started gaining speed, Columbia was doubtful that BDAy would be a big seller, since at that point the album was out for 2 months and they were already on a 3rd single! For a “superstar” artist, no one will EVER admit that, but that spells TROUBLE, real quick! And not to be outdone, you’ll remember that hip-hop stations at that point also started to support both JT’s “Sexyback” & “My Love”, AND Fergie’s “London Bridge”. More after the break..

  • Phil

So with that being said, when was the last time, multiple WHITE artists had TRUE hits on the Urban & hip-hop charts, let alone simluttaneously?? ITS BEEN A WHILE, TRUST ME. So with that being said, alot of urban stations started playing many of the cuts off BDAY since they weren’t going to be playing any other showtuns off the DreamGirls soundtrack other than the J.Hud showstopper. Than of course “Irreplaceable” turned into this monster hit, and then Beyonce started to come up with the idea to re-release the disc with all those Spanish tracks & the duet with Shakira in order to break onto the Latin charts. Again, a savy business move. Now, with all the videos shot for just about EVERY track on the newly re-released cd, it provided visuals for some album cuts that never would have seen airplay, but Columbia worked “GET ME BODIED” to Urban radio, where it was a Top 10 hit, but failed to get ANY pop sirplay, even with a Timbaland remix featuring Fabolous! As far as I know, thats the last

  • DCBaxter

this song bored me to tears.

  • Phil

single thats going to be officially worked from BDAY. Now for Justin’s story. “Summer Love” was kind of a fluke. Its whats referred to as a hold over single. It was never intended to be a video from the album, but many stations started spinning the track last March & by the time summer started around memorial day, it was a top 10 hit, with NO video to support it. At the time, “Until The End Of Time’ started going for airplay on Urban stations, with the idea they would work that song there & work “Lovestoned” to pop stations, since there was very litle chance Urban stations would support a dance track like “Lovestoned”.

  • Jason

I actually find this remix rather pointless and don’t think Beyonce adds anything at all. You can tell her vocals were just edited in, meaning they have no chemistry on the song.
