'Jackie Woodman': Did you watch it?

Categories: Television

Minor_lOn Friday, I implored all of you to watch The Minor Accomplishments of Jackie Woodman, in the hopes that the little IFC comedy could ride a groundswell of PopWatch support to huge ratings, widespread acclaim, and future Emmy nominations. And while last night’s episode (the season’s sixth) wasn’t the series’ best, it certainly showcased Laura Kightlinger’s ability to infuse her line readings with a winningly twisted sarcasm; in particular, I loved her response to clueless Roger Lee’s revelation that he had a daughter around Jackie’s age — "Oh goodie! Someone to play with!" I think I love Jackie because she’s like my secret, hostile inner voice, only with the volume turned up. Thankfully, Tara (Nicholle Tom, left, with Kightlinger) is always there to cut the acidity with her sweet cluelessness ("Dad? Can I have some more wine?") And I’m not sure why, but that montage of Jackie and overstaying-her-welcome mom (Mary Kay Place) brushing their teeth, then playing a drunken game of Russian roulette together, made me laugh harden than it should have. How ’bout you, P-Dubs?

I watched it and set the DVR for a weekly recording. It’s was quirky-funny. The kind of humor you don’t see very often on TV, or anywhere. Only prob is Mr. Dio_K didn’t like it a much as I did, but he can watch something else. Thanks for the suggestion.

First time watching it. Based on the episode, it’s not perfect, but it’s very funny, and I agree the montage scene was hilarious.

I watched it and it has made it to the DVR list. I love Laura Kightlinger, and I remember hearing about the show, but then I forgot about it. Thanks for bringing it to my attention. For some reason, I really liked when her Mom and RL arrived and she took their coats and then dropped them.
Plus, I’m glad to see Nicholle Tom found some work after the Nanny.

I freakin’ loved it!! Then again, I have seen every episode since the first one, so I thing maybe this doesn’t apply to me.

I DVRd it and watched it last night, and I would give it another shot. There wasn’t enough laugh-out-loud stuff to put it on a season pass or anything, but I’d do two or three more. It’s got a nice tone, it sounds like people you actually know, I do love that it looks like the way people actually live, and Nicholle Tom–who knew she had that in her.

I love everything about a show that is wise enough to feature Merrill Markoe as a guest star – lampooning herself – not once, but twice. AND Sam Simon. It makes my yoga brain explode.
